New Diablo 3 Screens Show Off Skeleton-Bashing Kung Fu

Skeletons, gold, and blasts of arcane energy are just another day in Diablo 3.

Diablo fans rejoice! Blizzard has released a veritable feast of new images from the upcoming Diablo 3, showing off everything from what the auction house will look like, to the kung fu prowess of the game's Monk class.

Also included in the mass of screenshots is a look at the Diablo 3's menus - which are much more informative than they appear at first glance - and the part of the game that most players will care about the most: the killing of monster and the looting of ancient treasures. There's plenty of color on show, although it doesn't seem to have had much of an adverse effect on the game's dark tone; if anything, the bursts of color make the dark bits look even darker.

The screenshots make the game look like a great deal of fun, as do hands-on reports [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/previews/9055-Diablo-III-Hands-On] from the beta. Unfortunately, Blizzard is keeping quiet on exactly when Diablo 3 is coming out; hopefully the rest of us will get to play it sooner rather than later.

Prediction: Blizzard will realize they are making so much money off the real money auction house that they will drop the price of the game to a trivial amount like 5.99 after the initial rush wears off.

The decision not to include offline single player is a betrayal of their fanbase. I'm spending my money on Torchlight 2 instead.

Looking good, hopefully this Blizzcon they might (maybe?) give us a release date.

Oh and I eagerly look forward to all the whiners finding this article.

Seeing a section for "Crafting & Dyes", and an auction house in a Diablo game just breaks my heart.

Leave the WoW in WoW.
[small]Before any of you say anything, yes, I'm aware that crafting was in Diablo II. But this isn't D2 crafting. This is WoW crafting, and they're two very different things.[/small]

God forbid that Diablo 3 be anything other than Diablo 2 with a facelift.

No it's not. In fact, I'll show you.

Gathering materials:

WoW - Find an ore or flower node and gather it or kill an animal and skin it. In a hack and slash game like Diablo, this would interrupt the action a lot.

Diablo - Salvage loot your don't want into crafting materials by dropping them into your salvage box and clicking a button. This also keeps your inventory clear so you don't have to keep going back to town to sell so much.

Making the item -

WoW - You talk to a crafting trainer and choose the profession you want. Then you go to a crafting station for your profession, choose the item you want to craft, then your character stands in place for a few seconds and makes the item.

Diablo - You talk to one of your artisans and look at all of the items they can make for you. You choose what you want and you get the item. It's more like buying than crafting, with an additional currency thrown in (salvage materials).

Improving your ability to craft better items -

WoW - Typically you'll craft the same items over and over again to grind out enough points to learn a new recipe which you will then craft over and over again.

Diablo - Improving your artisans requires you to donate X amount of gold and materials to them so they can improve their crafting station.

--------------

Really, they're nothing alike. The only similarities I can think of is that you need to gather materials in some way and they both result in items being placed in your inventory. I really wish people would stop with this "lol it's just like WoW" crap when it's clear they don't quite understand what they're talking about.

Cue loads of people whining about how Diablo III is a hippy game because they can actually see their character and going on about how Diablolight 2 is so much better because it's indie.

I never understood this argument. Diablo and Diablo 2 were really boring single player, and Torchlight was just as bad. Besides didn't drops get better/more frequent with more players or something?

D2 was great single player, particularly in hardcore mode. The Atma 3rd party app even let you mule single player even though you could make an open bnet game.

Some of us like gaming by ourselves because we have to deal with other idiots all day and actually enjoy time spent without other people.

And in addition it isn't anybody's business when I play a single player game or for how long. I don't want to be marketed to, I don't want to be recorded, and I certainly am not willing to give up my personal information for the privilege.

Now get off my lawn.

I can understand wanting to play single player, but I never understood this particular argument. Like most MMOs I play, the majority of my time spent on closed battlenet on Diablo 2 was spent alone. You can make private games with passwords and no one else will be able to get in unless you tell them your password. This way you get the best of both worlds; you can play alone when you want and you can play with others when you want without having to use separate characters.

I mean... I guess it sucks for the people that absolutely wanted to play single player but this shouldn't have come as a surprise. Diablo 2 had a good amount of closed Bnet exclusive items/content and, as far as I'm aware, SC2 has the same always-online DRM.

Rather sharp eye you've got, there.

Keep in mind, though, this is a demo build used to show off game features, not the final version. If they're showing off bits and pieces of the game, that playtime counter may not be indicative of the length of the finished product.
