New Hitman Game In Development

Eidos and IO Interactive are working on a new game in the Hitman series, Eidos has confirmed.

Fans of bald-headed killers and open-ended action game scenarios can rest easy. Eidos has not forgotten about your favorite franchise even as it announces the resurrection of that other classic series [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/91613-Thief-4-Its-Official]. Hitman is alive and well, with a new game currently in the works.

"It's being worked on, but there's been no announcement on the release date yet," Eidos "life president" Ian Livingstone told Gaming Indians in an interview [http://www.gamingindians.com/2009/05/eidos-president-talks-arkham-thief-hitman-etc/]. "We haven't even announced the game yet, so everything you hear about the next Hitman game is purely speculation at this point."

Development's not being farmed out to some random studio, either, with original Hitman creators IO Interactive working on the project alongside a couple others. "Yes, it's IO Interactive," Livingstone said. "They're making Hitman, Kane and Lynch and also Mini Ninjas; all at the same studio."

So does Eidos recent takeover by Japanese giant Square-Enix mean that Agent 47 is suddenly going to grow blonde-spiky hair and spend ten minutes charging up his power before taking out his targets? According to Livingstone, the Squeenix deal means that Eidos has some financial footing, and at the same time, "we're independent, so they're not just looking to take our IP back to Japan." Square-Enix, he says, don't want to influence the talent they've acquired, IO Interactive included, but "make us even better."

I am ashamed to say, I tried playing Blood Money, and I sucked at it, really I was Awful. That kind of put me off the series...

That rubber duckies face gives a whole new dimension to the awesomness that is that picture. Also, this will give me enough incentive to actually play the games, and after that I will have no excuse to go pro killer and wear a suit.

There was a magazine article a couple of months back about how they are making the guard AI unpredictable. That will fuck me up, I've gotten used to observing their movements to the point where I know at any given time which guard is overlooking a certain ledge or taking his fourteenth piss in twenty minutes.

I'm a huge fan of the Hitman Series. I've been playing since Codename: 47 on PC and I've been hooked ever since. I should probably go grab Blood Money form a pawn-shop or something on 360, since I'm willing to bet it's ultra cheap right now. *Mental Note*

But yeah, I hope they don't F it up with this take-over. I'm not worried about 47 getting spiky hair or powerups. I'm worried about him suddenly getting all emotional with deep philosophical monologues. They can change up the gameplay a bit to keep the series fresh, but don't change the character.

Why do you people comment a few year old picture? ;d

I'm kinda happy, as long as they improve the engine. No, not making it prettier and adding DirectX 10. BODIES STILL CLIPPED IN THE LAST GAME. It was a very good game (couldn't get past last part, because... I couldn't find the president ;d), but when you stacked few bodies, it looked really lame.

...Also, FIX THE AI! You could start shooting at people, hide behind a corner and score headshots...

Wasn't it a horribly average game that sold pretty low?

I love the hitman series, so this one I am looking forward to. Hopefully they include even more ways to complete each objective in this game, like rigging the tub with a pressure sensitive explosive so that when it is full and he sits in it, it goes boom. That beats the hell out of a toaster.

I really loved the concept of the hitman series, but only played about half of Codename 47 and half of Blood Money.

There was just too much watching and waiting for a certain scripted event. It never felt like you had real freedom to do what you wanted. (design limitation I suppose)

When it drifts into shooter mode, thats when I get annoyed.

Very god news to hear. Always did enjoy the games after the first hitman, if just for the sheer variety you had when it can to doing the missions.

Sounds cool, although somehow i dont think 47 would kill someone by throwing a toaster in the tub. He would find a clever way to make them drop it in or rig something to make it fall. Throwing it in himself seems a bit crude.
It's Purely up to the player, the best thing about Hitman is you can make Agent 47 stealthily go on in and destroy his targets and casually walk out or dress like a clown and blast everyone away.

I cannot wait to see where Agent 47 goes next and I hope they fill this game with subtle things like the canary he had. Through the game series Agent 47 has become much more human(intentionally) and this may be the major plot based one where 47 is furthur characterised.

Hoping for a Themepark Level right now :)

I have to say, this excites me. Blood Money was fun, albeit a little frustrating when you got caught and had to play it as a shooter, and I hope that they can do this game just as well. Still, the Eidos classic I would rather have would be Timesplitters 4, but with those developers over at CryTek, that looks like it will never happen. Still praying for lush jungles with lots and lots of monkeys.
