New LEGO Star Wars Slave 1 Set Revealed

The newest LEGO take on Boba Fett's Slave 1 will feature 1,996 pieces and five mini-figures.

If we're being honest, <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/boba%20fett>Boba Fett is probably one of the dullest characters in the original <a hrer=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/134987-Star-Wars-Star-Destroyer-Recreated-in-40-000-Piece-LEGO-Build>Star Wars trilogy. Outside of playing delivery boy for Jabba the Hutt, he never really does all that much besides stand around, look threatening and get eaten by the Sarlaac. The thing is, there's just something about him that's so inherently cool that he can get away with that. He's awesome without really being awesome. A bad ass without doing anything to prove it. Put shortly, we love the Fett-man, even if there's not much reason to.

That in mind, you can perhaps understand why recently leaked images of the new LEGO Slave 1 building set have us so excited. The images, which were released by <a href=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6klsWiZWlA>YouTube user just2good, reveal a nicely detailed set that includes 1,996 pieces and five mini-figures. Among the included figures will be Han Solo, Han Solo frozen in carbonite, a Stormtrooper, a Bespin guard and a fancy new Boba Fett. The new Slave 1 will be a member of LEGO's <a href=http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/Ultimate_Collector's_Series>Ultimate Collector's Series. There's currently no information as to how much the new Slave 1 set will cost or when it will hit store shelves.

This, of course, won't be LEGO's first Slave 1 model. The famed starship has already been recreated in two previous LEGO sets released in <a href=http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/6209_Slave_I>2006 and <a href=http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/8097_Slave_I>2010. That said, those earlier models were much smaller in scale, barely using more than 500 pieces and featuring a lot less detail than the new version. Take a look at the images and let us know what you think. Will this be on your LEGO shopping list or does it miss the mark like a Stormtrooper's blaster fire?

Really frickin' cool. I love it when they release these large sets, but they're always pretty expensive. A set like this may go for 150 dollars easily.

I'll always love the big sets but yeah they usually go for really high prices and that's usually the sign for me to never buy them because while I still have a love for Lego I will never see them as more value than say £50 at best.

Shit, I bought the 2010 version last year. I might have to spring for this one though... I really like the Slave I ship. Probably get the Millennium Falcon at some point, too.

I have the 2006 one, whilst this is cool it's sort of sad that the bricky aesthetic is lot a bit and they're replacing things with large bricks nearly perfectly representing the ship.

I am buying this the moment I see it. There is no way I can walk out of a shop that has this without it.

I feel like such an old fart for saying this (and I'm only 26), but I feel like 3D printing has ruined Legos. When Star Wars Lego sets came out when I was a kid, they had a lot of corners, but it was great how I could make some awesome looking ships if I used the right combination of flats, blocks, and slopes. But now they make these sets with highly customized pieces. It just looks boring to me.

I've got the Slave 1 from 2000 and this one looks model quality compared to mine. These kids today and all their fancy curved and detailed pieces. Back in my day we made due with blocks, plates, and slopes.

This looks great, but if I do drop a few hundred on a SW set it's gonna be for the Executor.

The Firespray is such a cool looking ship. It's just so alien and unique, because it flies at an odd angle.

Was going to say "What, another one?" but if its UCS then its different. Looks pretty good too, might have to put some money aside over my next few paychecks for it...
