ive had something similar before. I had one game when my mates connection was acting up and another just a couple of days ago when it was my connection. Everyone just flies around the map really quickly and occasionally flew into the air. I did really well though because I had Commando Pro so I wasnt being killed by the falls and I had akimbo models on so I would one shot people as they flew past.

Thats odd. So when the host leaves the game, the settings change? I'm not sure I believe what youre saying, simply because of how server-mod normally work, and how hacks normally work.

Normally when a game released like MW2, they also release software for dedicated servers, and on those servers you can run plugins, like addons for your browser.

What you're talking about is when someone becomes host, they hijack all the PCs theyre connecting to (which we call a trojan in non-technical terms) and hack or inject hacks to the clients of all the players who are playing.

It's possible, sure. But that's also how Trojans work.
I'm not going to comment too much on the details of how it works, as I've never been present on a Hacked Host game long enough to see a host switch.

I was making the point more to illustrate that despite no Dedicated Servers in MW2, there are still plenty of "Hacked" servers out there, running low gravity/friction mods and just generally annoying the hell out of me due to the crappy MMing system not giving me a choice not to join the "Hacked" hosts.

I'm still really confused, because after searching around I can't find any host-based mod-hacks or whatever they are.

Whats more, it seems that this is even more unlikely due to it being on xbox...

I'm going to call bullshit on this.

I actually wished MW2 had a just-for-fun, screw-around playlist with a myriad array of special/silly effects...

That would have been awesome!

With my limited knowledge I think it goes something like this....

You can set up your own server and play it off-line or with friends, there are many settings you can create for example unlimited kill limit, unlimited and no reload explosives such as the grenade launcher and to play on any map.

Now some people found out how to transfer these servers into the public on-line world and you would randomly find them while you wait for your game and yes once the host ends it you all get kicked. Like most things call of duty, most people set them up to rise through the ranks.

It's not bullshit it's just annoying.

That's for the x-box, I don't know if its the same for the ps3

Yeah, just had a match like that. It was pretty funny. Although I didn't know the part about moving sideways... I was crouched on a roof, and I moved sideways, then zoomed of the house into my death (on Rundown).

A bit like Halo's game options?

I'd love that. That's the aspect of Halo I really liked; the extremely customisable gametypes. A friend of mine was playing on a modded server which had unlimited ammo, no reload and was Ground War on Rust. Sounds pretty funny to me.

Well, I have a couple of fun ideas...

- game type where, every minute or so, a random emergency airdrop by a stealth bomber (boxes show up only when they're on the ground). Try not to get killed. :D
- a match where you don't choose a class, but spawn completely randomized weapons/equipment/perks/killstreaks
- hyper-mode: you spawn with every perk (no deathstreaks however) and a random weapon/equipment set, 2x jump height and 2x health
