New Official LEGO Minecraft Sets Leaked

The new LEGO Minecraft sets look a lot more impressive than the old ones.

When we last were promised Russian retailer [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/114534-Mojang-Making-Official-Minecraft-Legos] leaking early images of the sets, we know what they will look like, and I must say they certainly look a lot better than the old ones.

Check out the leaked images below:

As you can see, this time LEGO isn't messing about. It looks like there will be a total of six new sets, each depicting a different aspect of Minecraft life, and each with it's own collection of cool minifigures, ranging from "Steve" (with various different armor configurations) to Skeletons, to Sheep. Going by the pictures, it looks like each set will have multiple configurations, and in true Minecraft (and LEGO!) style, has an emphasis on encouraging builders to use the blocks to make their own creations.

The new images are full-scale LEGO sets, rather than the "micro" scale that the old sets were, and certainly look a lot more "Minecraft-y". The "The End" set complete with badass LEGO Ender Dragon, and the mine set with what looks like a working mine cart, look especially cool.

These sets are currently slated for release in November this year, and should be available through various LEGO retailers. LEGO Minecraft always made perfect sense, and now it looks like we're getting the sets we've been waiting for.

Have you guys seen the cost of these things? I saw one in the shops awhile back and was not surprised that the shelves were full and covered in dust - for example, £35 for one set [http://www.tesco.com/direct/lego-minecraft-micro-world-21102/304-2727.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=304-2727&ui=mercury&sc_cmp=pcp_GSF_LEGO%20%26%20Construction%20Toys_304-2727kpid=304-2727&sc_cmp=ppc_g__&kpid=304-2727&gclid=CjwKEAjw5NihBRCZmdLkuuTHyWYSJACtCY0JZ_DfR1Tj9tK4y8QdPdyO30tsfg01-_cPGeG9TXN1DxoC92Hw_wcB]. I'd rather just buy a bucket of lego squares and use the ol' imagination.

Anyone remember when Lego was a collection of basic bricks that you used your imagination to create something with, rather than all of these custom-made sets that require zero thought or effort? /snark

These bricks still aren't textured like Minecraft blocks, which kinda defeats the purpose and still makes 'em pretty much just regular LEGO bricks in slightly different colors, but this is nonetheless a huge improvement on the zero-effort MInecraft sets they've released in the past.

P.S. Thanks

Personally I think Mojang should have just contracted a toy company to release its own line of custom brick toys that actually look like proper Minecraft blocks. Perfect cubes and half-cubes, actual printed textures on the sides, custom minifigs... completely incompatible with Legos and their off-brand knockoffs but who cares? They're not trying to be; they're Minecraft toys!

At any rate, Lego is lucky this deal happened before the Microsoft buyout, because Microsoft generally does business with Mega Blocks for their tie-ins.
