what would you like to see in the next Pokemon generation?
Real-time combat, for one. That would be good. Look at Custom Robo Arena for an awesome 3D battle system with ~4 attacks per character.

I can dream, can't I?
I honestly don't want that. Part of what makes Pokemon *Pokemon* is its strategy. Making it in real-time would completely strip that.
WoW has real-time AND strategy, who says Pokemon can't? Poison would be a DOT, elecricity would slow down your movement, so on and so forth, there'd be AOE moves, and other such things. Wouldn't you play a game like that?

It really needs a co-op mode, and HMs shouldn't be available in battle.

The way i think HMs should work is, they teach all capable pokemon the move, but it doesn't interfere in battle at all.
But if you want to use those moves in battle then you need to find the TM counterpart. Or maybe the HM would just have the option to teach it as a battle move.

They've already announced a Generation V game. No details yet but there was something a while back, according to Wikipedia, about an "unnamed Pokemon game due for release in late 2010". So it's more than likely this so-called 'shock announcement' will just be giving a few teaser details and maybe the element/colour/jewel/whatever of these new games...

I might play a game like that, but I wouldn't want it to be a main series Pokemon game.

If I have a Jolteon out against my opponents' Gyarados, I want to have to try and THINK about what he's going to do. Do I get a free move because he's going to switch since I outspeed him and can OHKO with Thunderbolt? Do I do Agility to Baton Pass? What if he's expecting me to do that and leaves Gyarados in and Earthquakes, OHKOing me? What if he's got an Electabuzz on his team and switches him in to eat a Thunderbolt?

That sort of strategy and outplanning is what I love about Pokemon and it wouldn't really be possible in a full action game.

That is what I meant about an official announcement, you know :p

It's going to be an announcement of the fifth generation games, possibly with new Pokemon. The 5th gen will be to the fourth what the fourth was to the third- the same (classic) gameplay with minor upgrades and enhancements, along with ~100 new Pokemon. Nintendo has made roughly seventeen gajillion dollars on the same formula, and I seriously doubt they're going to deviate from that. Why would they want to?

The only thing they could do to make a real megaton announcement would be to make the new game analogous to G/S and let you revisit old regions, but I'm not sure they'll go that far.

How about they will stop churning out games and just release a Massive on with every pokemon and an immersive deep gritty plot.. It could include...

Moral choices: ...Will you help Professer *Insert Wood* with his Alcohol problem and save his suicidal son?

Stunning Enviroments....

Who am I kidding?

How about they fucking make a game in which you get to go to all 4 regions (and all 3D xD), and be able to catch every Pokemon (but if they want to make version exclusive, at least make it 20 region Pokemon exclusive so there are 100 exclusive Pokemon not just shitty 15), and please, PLEASE, have less events, that shit ain't coming to my country , EVAR! Oh oh and make it a standard, after four games make a total game remake, so you get to visit everything in the newest tech.

use Pikachu's electrical attack to send a bolt that lights up _ amount of something to move platforms, etc. Maybe less like Zelda and more like WildArms then.......
Actually HMs are the watered down version of that...

I honestly love pokémon even though it's a bit of a 90's thing today
P.S if they were going to link up the regions, it would need to be a console thing so it wouldn't be shallow, what I'd like to see is every new generation they would make a console game where all the regions were linked and you started off on the region introduced and work your way through sinnoh, hoenn,Johto and Kanto

I am in the industry and a few months ago I started wondering where the Pokemon franchise can go from here. The only thing I can see would be to make a new region with a similar story but the new region has the entire collection of pokemon. It goes against the trade with your friends deal so maybe they will make two versions. I think they need to elevate their ideas and put the game on the Wii and really make it immersive. If they were able to do that I would buy a Wii.

1. Stop making new Pokemon. Really, just use the 500 you've already made. Any more would just be silly (not to mention they would look like shit, if Gen IV is any indication).
2. Make a 16 badge quest. After releasing Heart Gold and Soul Silver, nobody's going to want to settle for a 8 badge, single continent quest again. Remember how disappointing Ruby/Sapphire were in this regard after the original G/S/C?
3. Use the 3DS's power and make battles 3D, with detailed animations for each attack. Keep the turn-based system though, to keep the strategic elements in.
4. Get rid of the damn HMs. I'm tired of carrying HM bitches around, cutting my available team slots to 4 instead of 6.
5. Don't make anymore Teams (Rocket/Magma/Aqua/Galactic/whatever) and don't use the same old "You must defeat the Legendary Pokemon threatening to destroy the world" plot device. It really is getting old.
6. Put a twist on the "Fight 8 Gym Leaders/Catch Legendary Pokemon between the 7th and 8th Gym/Fight Elite 4 and Champion" routine. Any twist will do, just change the formula up a little.

THAT is what Gen V needs.
This, honest to god this. I mean, for me Gen I was great because I was a young kid playing my own Pokemon adventure with Pikachu at my side, and then Squirtle when I got blue. Gold and Silver took everything I loved about Yellow and Blue and improved on it. From there the series has just gone down hill. Sure HG and SS are fun, but the only reason for that is because they are remakes of the last good games to come out of the series. Unless they actually change the forumla, and stop pulling more crappy Pokemon out of their arses, the series isn't going anywhere for me. However as we know, Nintendo would sooner go bankrupt than actually modify a formula that sells like hotcakes.

I'd like to see a game where you actually have the option to join the bad guys and take over the world. Honestly, being the good guy can get boring after a while.

Didn't the original announcement about these Pokemon games actually say they were going to be on the DS, sparking a plethora of conversation about how nintendo had never had two successive generations on the same system (which is actually untrue because, though Gold and Silver were optimized and intended for the Gameboy Color, they were also usable on the super Gameboy)?

Also, the original announcement mentioned something about how all of the previous regions were to be reborn or something, so maybe they actually are going to link them all. If I can get a Charmander without having to beat the rest of the game (which I am led to believe I can do in HeartGold, which is easily the best pokemon game ever) I will officially declare that Generation 5 is the best generation of pokemon ever. I hate traveling around the world without a Charmander/Charmeleon/Charizard, though the Cyndaquil evolutionary tree is a decent substitute, and as long as I have a trusty Dratini eventually I'm fiune, I guess. But, please, give me a Charmander!

That's fair enough to say, but the way Pokemon is currently presented is so boring. It's such a slow game. If you check out Final Fantasy, any title with an ATB system, I find that they allow for as much, if not more strategy, but also keep me entertained in realtime, instead of ~1/6th the time.

...or just give me the ability which has been on emulators forever of 100x time so I can just hold that button down when I've selected my option.

it was already said on this site that the next generation of the ds was in the hands of the pokemon company. that was stated before the 3ds was even announced. I have no doubt in my mid that the announcement will be 3d pokemon gaming at launch for 3ds. this means i will be putting my preorder in as soon as possible and attending a midnight launch.

1. MMORPG format (being able to interact with other players all over the map).
2. Full Trainer customization in a proper pokemon game - Nintendo seems to be out to prove to us that they have no idea what looks good and what does not. Case in Point: Platinum, and HeartGold/SoulSilver (particularly the girl).
3. Drop the "Contest" side quest. I don't know of anyone that actually does them.
4. Please, just drop HMs already. Or at least make them easier to forget.

I would like the next games' Wi-Fi settings to support WPA . Since I can't get Soulsilver to go Wi-Fi because my network doesn't use WEP.
That's hardware, not software. The DS and DS lite can't use WPA.

I would LOVE to just see something, anything different from Pokemon. Anything that isn't just the usual handheld formula whatever it may be I don't care as long as it is different.
