Well not being able to play DVDs/ Blu-ray/ CDs I already own on it is a bummer (if this is true), but apart from that I'm not too bugged about it.
And games.
I mean Steam has us Download games and the XBox 360 has shown to us we can download movies and music on it anyway,
And Microsoft has Games on Demand, XBLA, etc.

aside from the lack of a physical case (I rather like having a case/ manual for my games, as well as anything extra I get in Collector's Edition) I don't see much of a problem.
You do realise that there will still be physical copies of games in this rumour, right? It says so in the article. And the article it cites.

We're talking solid state cards here, akin to SD cards. there will probably also be a competing digital market, but it's not going online only.

Though I do see Microsoft having us pay $40/ $60 for each game still, even though it SHOULD be cheaper through digital download, in which case I heartly disaprove of this.
Considering Steam charges full retail price on new titles, why is this being brought up as a complaint? You just used Steam as a hallmark, and they helped set this precedent.

Cartridges ? SOLID STATE CARTRIDGES?

I'm imaging close to no loading times. Helloooo console gaming, you have leveled-up!
leveled up to the NES?

There is no way they'd do this. That tech is still stupid expensive compared to optical media. Is it cooler, and faster and better? Absolutely. But seeing how making something proprietary makes it even more expensive, No one would be able to afford it!

That being said: Microsoft is definitely trying to get their whole ecosystem together. Phone/consoles/computers is their big plan, and I'm interested to see what they actually do come out with. I use a windows computer, and a windows phone, but never was too fond of the Xbox360. I probably wouldn't be able to afford it right away, but if it was worth it, i'd be down for buying in.

Why is every one trying to reinvent consoles rather than improving them. Is it that bad that sony invented the modern format?

like introducing the world to controller-free experiences with Kinect
Which they stole from the PS2s Eyetoy.

and re-inventing the console with a new dashboard
Hardly creative. Plus it sounds like everyone hates their new dashboard.

and new entertainment content partnerships.
So that could mean 2 things, either buying studios which is nothing new or allowing people to put shit on XBLA, which they did not invent and Steam does way, way better.

Microsoft, please stop talking shit. Kthxbye.

Xbox 360 has found new ways to extend its lifecycle like introducing the world to controller-free experiences with Kinect and re-inventing the console with a new dashboard and new entertainment content partnerships. We are always thinking about what is next for our platform and how to continue to defy the lifecycle convention. Beyond that we do not comment on rumors or speculation.
Well, kinect is a gimmick and the new dashboard is nothing but advertisments... so forgive me if I choose not to place my trust in you, mister!

Anyone who thinks they're going to abandon discs is deluding themselves. They want the X-Box to everything and if they do introduce SSD storage it'll be for moving save files from one machine to another, back ups or being able to stream stuff from cameras through their X-Box to the TV.

I'm trying very hard to wrap my head around Microsoft's goal of "media Center" with a console that can't run CD, DVD, or Blu-ray. (you know media)
Simple. You buy it all from them, or they lease out to a separate company. Personally, I like the idea of this. I enjoy being able to play my copy of halo reach (downloaded) without having to worry about putting in a disc. I like that I can hit my guide button, and go to my quick launch. Takes less time.

Oh! Has anyone at all figured that there will probably be USB ports SOMEWHERE on this console? What is this in my hand... A multimedia device! Ooh! Let me plug it in to my new shiny Xbox and download my media onto it! Less hassle, as long as they offer a pre-downloadable game for midnight release.

I can see this being right. Why would Microsoft use blue-ray (owned by Sony)? It would just put money into Sony's hands. If anything I could see Microsoft developing its own disk system. Personally I hope they stay away from disks. With the number of read errors my 360 has on a regular basis. It would be smart for them to eliminate that sort of BS from the next system.
