I just did a study that shows that 100% of me thinks that your study is bullshit.

I'm not overly opposed to 3D, I just don't think it's all that great a technology and certainly not worth shelling out boatloads of money for. I certainly don't appreciate having it shoved down my throat.

Question, how is it being shoved down your throat exactly?

What gamers did they poll? I wasn't one of them. It was probably kids and farmville players.
On their site they state:

The U-DECIDE banners were officially placed on the following sites:
http://game.amd.com
http://www.mtbs3d.com
http://www.iz3d.com
http://www.blitzgamesstudios.com
http://www.vendetta-online.com
http://www.thegamecreators.com

During the run of the campaign, we also went through a heavy traffic period thanks to press releases and high attention stories like Sony PS3 adopting stereoscopic 3D gaming in 2009. Gamesindustry.biz, Wired Magazine, GameInformer, theinquirer.net, and countless other journals are just a sampling of the traffic sources we benefited from.

New study can piss off. I hate 3D, it gives me headaches and the glasses are cumbersome.

*points to U-DECIDE's "study"* May I now draw your attention to Exhibit 'A'.

Oh, I just checked out the site. They want you to pay money for seeing the full report, that includes their premisses and their testants. Obviously this is a hoax to try people from the industry to pay for their "study".

I can't think of any real scientist that would charge people that want to check if he is talking bullshit or not.
Yes, unfortunately we do. Or rather, the journals in which we publish usually charge exorbitant fees for viewing articles. It sucks, I know, but the scientific community is...well, we're greedy bastards.

You know what's more interesting? That more people across the board were in favor of no glasses. Furthermore, the way the questions were asked was skewed. Notice how it was willingness to watch WITH or WITHOUT glasses, in two separate questions. One might say yes to the overall question, that is willing to watch something in 3D, and be ok with either. I still don't care, of course, as marketing studies are about half as reliable as horoscopes.

All the studies like this, as mentioned, are complete and utter tosh. They might have "factual" data, but if they do it's gonna come from a select group that will go their way.

Also, I personally don't care about 3D. I'm not against it but I won't mind when it inevitably goes tits up when people get bored of it.

I'm glad this article adressed the main pitfall in this survey, lots of people will wear the glasses, that's not the same thing as lots of people willing to forkover 200 dollars per viewer on top of the cost of the display.

for some gamers maybe they could include tape with said glasses because not all of us have flawless vision.

And again I ask, how is 3D technology being shoved down your throat? To have something shoved down your throat is to practically be forced to learn something. At this point in time you could be completely oblivious to 3D technology in all of its forms and it wouldn't make a difference to almost anyone.

Of course, you may occasionally have a friend or family member that wants to see a 3D movie. In which case you can try to explain them that you don't like 3D or it hurts your eyes. If that doesn't work then I'm sorry that 3D technology made you miss a few movies with friends, but I wouldn't say its being shoved down your throat.

Also, using this study would be a bad example of being shoved down your throat as well, I didn't even hear about the survey or its findings until today. It is a relatively obscure study that isn't really being promoted much.

I never had a problem with the glasses personally, though most of my friends wear glasses as opposed to contacts, so I can see how they could have a problem. One of them was kinda okay with it when we checked out a 3DTV at Best Buy, though.

The pricetag on 3D televisions is another issue entirely. I'd rather wait until the price goes down before I buy a 3DTV of my own. Besides, so much talk of glasses-free 3D nowadays makes me feel like it's a better idea to just wait for that technology to kick off, and subsequently become standard and affordable.

Currently, the main problem I have is thus: a 3DTV would be useful to me purely for Avatar and Wipeout HD. Not a very long list of reasons to get one.

I don't mind 3d. Unless it's blue and red. Then everything is purple. Purple is a fine color...just not when it's the only think I see for hours

There was a mistake in the original report which has now been corrected, but it deserves to be mentioned here as well. The quote and links in the article as it was originally posted actually referred back to an earlier survey and not the one that was just released. Here are the relevant links:

http://www.mtbs3d.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=11877&Itemid=114 [http://www.mtbs3d.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=11877&Itemid=114]

http://www.mtbs3d.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=11894:industry-backed-study-reveals-gamer-viewpoints-on-stereoscopic-3d&catid=36:press-room&Itemid=66 [http://www.mtbs3d.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=11894:industry-backed-study-reveals-gamer-viewpoints-on-stereoscopic-3d&catid=36:press-room&Itemid=66]

At this point, only the preliminary results have been released; the full U-Decide 2010 report won't come out until November. When it does, it will apparently address pretty much all the questions being asked here, including how the survey group breaks down, what sort of 3D hardware is being considered, how pricing will factor in and so forth. It should be far more enlightening than what we currently have at hand.

I apologize whole-heartedly for the mistake and any confusion it may have caused.
