Niantic Announces Pokemon Go Holiday Event

Pokemon Go's holiday event kicks off Christmas day.

Niantic recently added a few new Pokemon to mobile title Pokemon Go, including Ditto, which can be found in the wild, and Togepi and Pichu, which can each be hatched from eggs, along with a special holiday themed Pikachu. The developer announced that the Holiday event for the game will give you a better shot at finding them.

Players will have an increased chance to hatch Togepi, Pichu, "and other Pokemon" starting on Christmas morning, December 25, and running through January 3 in the afternoon. To help you on your mission to find these new Pokemon, PokeStops will begin awarding single-use Incubators every day, after your first PokeStop visit every day. You'll also have a better chance of finding eggs that will hatch Togepi, Pichu, and "several other recently found Pokemon," and the special Pikachu wearing a Santa hat will be "staying around a bit longer."

On top of that, from December 30 through January 8, partner Pokemon and their evolutions will be more likely to be encountered, giving you a greater chance of catching Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Venusaur, Charmander, Charmeleon, and Charizard, Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise. And, finally, lure modules will last for a full hour instead of the usual 30 minutes.

In other Pokemon Go news, the game is now available on Apple Watch [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/169117-Pokemon-Go-Now-Available-on-Apple-Watch], althought it doesn't function like a full version of the game, but more like a peripheral. Players will be able to use their Apple Watch to log play sessions as workouts, receive notifications about nearby Pokemon, count distance towards hatching eggs and earning buddy candy, collect from PokeStops, and receive notifications when eggs hatch and medals are earned, but won't be able to catch new Pokemon.
