Oh noes, the tiny country of Nigeria doesn't like a commercial.

That's it, Sony is going to go under.
Yeah it's not like Nigeria is the 8th most populous country in the world or anything, or twice the size of California

Oh wait, it's both those things.

Anyway I'm not sure what to make of this. I mean yeah it was a dig but on the other hand...Nigerian Banking Scams

Also it's incredibly hard to get Sony to ever admit they fucked up. Hell when people called them on the bullshit that was "All I want for Christmas is a PSP" they said "You caught us. I guess our dialogue was too funky!"
You are on EVERY thread bashing Sony. Shouldn't you be doing something worthwhile?

Yeah I guess I should go get my degree oh wait I already did that. Wow I am so sorry I don't share your grand vision of the future where Sony is king or whatever. I wasn't even being that mean. I guess we should just pretend Sony is a company that hasn't ever done anything monumentally stupid or misleading. And we've always been at war with Eastasia.

Better question is how in the world you can pretend to have some sort of lifestyle high ground on me when you yourself are on an internet forum, telling someone to get a life. (irony, lol)
... and here we see the anti-fan troll in its native habitat, a gaming forum. They can have a variety of colored plumage, but their main feature is attempting to use facts they looked up on wikipedia or a graphics degree they scrounged up from a community college.
This one in particular will probably never mate, poor chap, seeing as his camoflauge is very poorly developed, even for his sub-species.

Also, they like to flaunt the fact they read 50 pages into the classic 1984, cuz dat thar maeks u smrt!
Halfbreed, I...I think I love you.

Normally I'm against people suing over things like this but I think that went a bit too far from Sony right there.

I wondered why they changed that line in the commercial.

Dear Sir,

I represent the Government of Samoa and we are upset you seek to refer to all our hard-working citizens as wannabe wrestlers by the overuse of the phrase "Samoan Drop" in your wrestling media. This gives the impression that all Samoan's are capable of performing belly to belly suplex's when this is sadly not the case.

My friends in Germany and France would also like to inform you that they do not have measles or send condoms in all of their letters. The French would also like to inform you that the fries are theirs, as is kissing with tongues.

If you have a bank account though, we would be willing to hold 6 million dollars in your account until payday.

Yours sincerely,

Society Permitting Anarchic Merchandise.

I'm I the only one that thought he was making fun of the 'i am a nigerian prince scam' which chances are is not a message from someone in nigeria?

That being said Nigeria deserves it's reputation. I have many friends that work at Paypal (they several buildings in this town). One of them is a fraud analyst they track where the messages come from somehow, the number one country for fraud on Paypal/eBay? Nigera despite the fact that they are on the lists of countries that are not allowed to use Paypal. Sony probably doesn't care about Nigera so much as people defending Nigera. One of the big scams in nigera is shipping bootleg, stolen or illegal electronics than selling it back somewhere. At least one Nigerian was okay with it My next door neighbor is from Nigeria and he thought it was funny when we saw it during a baseball game.

What sucks for Nigeria is that the shoe fits. Hardcore. If your country is THAT well known for fist fucking people financially, then you had to see it coming. What, did they just think no one was EVER going to take a cheap shot at them for it?

I don't think I could pretend to feel bad for any country that completely blows up over a small joke like that.

All I'm saying is this; If the shoe fits, don't send random e-mails to people to see if you can scam someone into buying you a new pair. Fucking wear it.

Honestly, I find the stupid 'PlayStation' bit at the end of their adverts more annoying than their casual racism.
Explain to me how poking fun at a common email scam is in any way racist.

I can see myself getting grief for this for a few months. Casual racism was the only term I could think of to describe it. If there's a better term, please enlighten me.

I'd actually buy a PS3 if Sony issued a statement saying ; "We are extremely sorry for any hardship, or possible racist generalisations made to the government of Nigeria. However, this message will not be shown in Nigeria until they decide to give their bank details to this American General with ten million dollars to put in their bank accounts!"

"Inability to predict people's rampant oversensitivity," perhaps? Seriously, this is just absurd. The joke isn't about Nigeria, it's about an email scam that most folks with email -- and certainly the target audience for this ad -- is familiar with.

if they don't want the stigma about that and don't like those comments then they should clean their house and get rid of the scammers

Tell ya what, Nigeria, you get rid of all the jackasses spamming the hell out of everyone across the entire internet and then you'll get your apology.

Good luck with that, we'll be waiting to hear from you. :)
