Nike Says It's Releasing Marty McFly's Self-Lacing Sneakers This Year

Nike designer Tinker Hatfield reminds us that Marty McFly's self-lacing sneakers are still on track for this year.

Early last year, Nike revealed to us that the future is coming by announcing that Marty McFly's self-lacing sneakers from Back to The Future Part II were a thing that they were actually making [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/132269-Nike-Designer-Claims-Back-to-the-Future-Power-Laces-Coming-in-2015]. Then, we didn't really hear anything about them for a year, but now, AGENDA Emerge conference, Nike designer Tinker Hatfield assures us his team is still hard at work on the laces, and we will most likely see them before the year's end.

When asked for a specific release date, the designer simply said that there are still "11 and two-thirds months left in 2015″, strongly hinting that the laces will come out this year. Back to The Future fans will note that 2015 is, whether by co-incidence or deliberate planning, the year that Marty visits in Back to The Future Part II.

Specifically, he arrives on October 21, 2015, so Hatfield's words, along with the milestone, gives us reason to believe that they will probably tie the release of the laces in with Marty's fictional "arrival date".

As well as futuristic self-lacing shoes, we can probably expect some kind of Back to The Future event from Universal studios on or around Marty's arrival date. Maybe even a working hoverboard [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/138155-Working-Hoverboard-Prototype-Revealed]...

That leaves hover boards, open air holographic projectors, floating cars and weather manipulation.

Will this be a year of exciting advancement, or 365 days of disappointment.

And a dozen or so Jaws movies.

Personally, I am looking forward to Regan and the Ayatollah taking my order in a retro cafe.

"You have to learn to tie your shoes properly," Mom said. "When you grow up you'll need to know how to do that," she said.

I don't know how I feel in that this is what at least part of science is moving towards for inspiration... Well, a direction is still a direction, I guess.

Weather manipulation is already done, we call it global warming and cloud seeding.

When these babies hit $88 per box, you're gonna see some serious shit!

Laces? Where we're going, we don't need laces.

The shoes are on sale? GREAT SCOTT!

So, how much energy does it take to make one of these you ask? 1.21 gigawatts, of course!

And last but not least, how are you gonna know who's seen Back to the Future when these come out? Because they'll be the ones saying...

Ok, all puns aside. I'm curious to see how they work, and how the populous will find to hurt themselves on it and sue nike. XD

So they are staying true to their word well feature in the movie eh? Good thing there was no specific brand that feature the flying car other than the main one.

Still I can easily see the self lacing shoe to be expensive as hell even when it is not under charity like it was a coupld of years ago.

Cant see the point in self lacing shoes unless your an idiot that cant manage to tie them. Seems like an over the top solution to a minor non problem. Though a hover board should be invented. Id buy one of those. lol
