Yet more proof that children need to be given proper beatings (Or at least given more attention and regulation of their behavior) by their parents.

It scares them out of pulling stunts like this.

Ah, Hell, maybe if they read this article it'll make them think twice.

So... he uses a make-shift parachute and dies... and they blame a video game with nothing even remotely close to that in the game?

correct me if im wrong, seeing as i do not own any wrestling games... but im pretty sure that people do NOT jump off buildings with parachutes and land on their opponents...

this is going to sound terribly cold... but im willing to bet that the 'best friend' suggested it and then when he realised what he had done blamed it on the game, seeing that blaming something on a game will definitely take the fall even if it is not to blame, simply because everyone is just looking for an excuse to ban video games..

the best friend stated :

"He tried to do a swan dive like Jeff Harding (sic) does in SmackDown. That was his favorite game. He played it all the time," Murrel said. "That was what he was trying to do. If I would have seen him up there, I would have told him not to do it."

how the hell does a swan dive have anything to do with a parachute! and how does he know that was the move he was trying to do if he did not see him jump off! he seems to know a god damn lot about exactly what was going through the jumper's head for someone who wasn't there!

You are on to something here, myself, i sort the whole deal in the darwinaward column.
A nine year old this stupid would have killed himself in one way or another in the next ten years, either doing a jackass type of stunt at 12, mixing 12 different kind of alcohol at the age of 15 and die of alcohol poisoning, or starting a fight with a bikergang in a bar at the age of 18 (with a fake ID, naturally.)

Wait, I know its wrong to insult a dead person, but how on earth could ANYONE think jumping off a 13 story building is in any way safe...
*sigh* It's amazing what people will do [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cap4mOJ6N2E] in the name of wrestling. It's not 13 stories, but some how they convinced themselves it was safe.

Warning: The video I posted I personally found hilarious, but it is also can be seen as very disturbing. If you don't have much tolerance for suicidal stupidity (no one dies here), then don't click the link. Otherwise, laugh away at possibly the 3 dumbest people on the planet.

Exactly.

This case seems more of a case of child stupidity than video games. I'm starting to wonder if the government is just making up death stories and pointing their fingers at video games because they hate the fact that they can't stay alive for more than 15 seconds, so they decide that all video games must be purged.

can we stop calling the kid dumb? hes 9!
No, because while that is indeed rude, it is the truth. I was smarter than that at nine! Age almost always doesn't make a difference. I'm 12 and I bet you i'm still smarting than alot of 20 year olds.

I nominate this kid for a Darwin award... Seriously if it wasn't this , I'm sure something else would have happened, I'm just amazed he thought it would actually work.

don't they realize that Jeff Hardy is a REAL person and he does it in REAL life and that should be blamed, not the game?

It took place in America. THAT means that irresponsibility=pity and victory during lawsuits.

No wrestler has EVER done anything like this. Especially in a game. Kid was just doing something dumb, it happens, and of course people try to use it to further their agendas.

Sorry about the double post, but does anyone have the technical skills to create a site that can be used to add another bit of length to a virtual stick every time one of these stories is reported?

I blame no one but the kid's parents. Also the sister watching him, I guess. The fact is, little kids are stupid and will copy anything that looks fun.

If you don't tell them about gravity...who will?
