Oh, dear. This wasn't the way to respond to the criticism at all. They should have just said, "they should at least try it first."
Now they just seem arrogant. Pity.

And that's all I ask, really. If it's good/bad it will be due to its own merits.Julianking93 said:But anyway, no I don't think they're going to ruin it. You can't ruin something in one game, no matter how bad it is. I, as of now, personally think this game has potential to be great but there are a fuckton of elements working against it. If it turns out to be terrible, then oh well. If it's good, then great! Another welcome addition to the DMC franchise.
Like I said, NT is just full of themselves. Maybe if they could back up "serious" with good writing and complex characters they'd have a modicum of something to go on, but ultimately all the characters they've made have far less depth than the DMC series has with the added stupidity of being unlikable. Dante and his cadre were either fun or we liked them due to their personalities and quirks. NT reminds me of a TON of 90s comic writers who tried the dark and dour approaches and ironically came off as more shallow or pretentious.Salad Is Murder said:You know what, I have to say, because now you put that idea in my head http://inception.davepedu.com/ but: I never once considered that someone would actually write worse dialogue than capcom in a DMC game...but now I have...and the future is fucking terrifying.
He only seems like a pompous ass-wipe director to the bile-producing "fans".Horny Ico said:What broader audience? He's gone from pompous ass-wipe to vomit inspiration. (As in, the very sight of him inspires me to vomit in new ways).
So he was never ruined to begin with if he sucked already. No harm no foul.I agree that there's no point in raging over the ruin of a character that was already terrible, even though I didn't know that was even possible.
Ooooooh, you played a demo of a game. How impressive.Ha, no. I tried the Enslaved and Heavenly Sword demos; the latter is a QTE-riddled cluster-fuck brawler while the former is a no-freedom plat-former with sticky controls that completely fails to resemble the Chinese myth that inspired it. I wouldn't trust Ninja Theory to program a game any more than myself.
Actually, not really. You may not agree with this, but here's what I see:Jumplion said:ColdStorage above made a good argument as to how they don't really look that similar except for the hair.
It could easily be argued that he looks more like the original Dante.
They have very similar facial structures, a more roundish head, all that stuff.
Exactly this - I don't mind when game developers step up and say "we're making the game we want to make, so deal with it..." because the amount of people who will whine about the most inane stuff is just unbelievable. I love my games, and will happily debate all sorts of things about them... but I don't worry that they games I love so much will suddenly start sucking. They'll change, sure, but that's fine.Jumplion said:Honestly, I respect Ninja Theory and Capcom for sticking to their guns. It takes cojones to stand up for your game despite all the backlash it gets. If the game is good or bad, it will be due to its own merits, not because Dante doesn't look exactly like before.
They're sticking to their guns, for good or ill. And I respect that, to an extent.
Yes, for changing Dante into a.........what exactly did they change Dante to?See, an interesting thought occurred to me, everyone is screaming around like a banshee, saying "Dante is ruined!" when, really, all we have seen is a redesign. Nothing on his character. People say "emo angsty teen Twitard!", but when has he ever shown characteristics of said emo/angsty characteristics? He looks much more like a punk-ass kid, and that's evident considering his fighting style.Issurru said:Edit: I would also like to hit you with a shovel Tameem, why? Because you are a smug little bastard, which oddly enough makes me smirk because I then begin to think of how Dante should actually be. Instead of what you made him out to be
And really, with fans reacting as childishly as this, I wonder why they're taking the "talk to the hand" approach? Well, certainly if they were just reasonable then everyone would be happy! Except the fans. Because they are being completely immature and won't be satisfied no matter what they do.
As I've said any time this is mentioned, it's okay to be worried about the game. Be worried about its direction, that is completely understandable. But the amount of pure hatred this game is getting before any real substance is provided for the game is just ridiculous. It's practically a case study of gamers being unable to accept change. The game could be gold and diamonds but the "fans" would still hate on this game, dogmatically refusing to change their minds out of the immature belief that somehow they are right and it just terrible.
He doesn't look that similar to me. I mean sure he is white and broody looking but honestly that sums about half the guys I went to high school with. Anyways, a.) if wants to project himself a little on the character let him and b.) I never really got into the DMC games enough to be butthurt about this so I really don't have anything to say other then...Actual said:I'm just repeating shit I've been told, I can't promise that it's accurate. What I've heard is that the designer and co-founder Tameem Antoniades just made the character look like him.
