I feel like the 3DS is becoming more and more disappointing. Then again, it does have a huge amount of features to it, so it might be worth it.

It's 3D, I'm sure it would have to take a good bit of battery.

Not to mention, four hours (a good middle ground, apparently) suits me well enough.

Ech. My iPod Touch has a battery life of that time, depending on what I'm doing, and I can tell you that really sucks.

...Well, you can turn 3D off, right?

You know... I really wish Nintendo would focus on coming out with new GOOD games as opposed to working on new gimmicks. I realize new gimmicks sell, but for god sake I just want a good game for the DS that's not a Zelda, Mario, or Pokemon title...

That little rant aside however, I was still very impressed with the 3DS, and the battery life is no big deal personally, you can plug it in if need be. Unless you're on a plane flight over 4 hours, I personally don't go out and do nothing for over 5 hours and carry a DS with me. I say 3-5 hours is fair considering the 3DS capabilities. Even the iPhone4 playing a 3D game only lasts about 4 hours on full charge so the fact that the 3DS can last up to 5 while generating 3D effects is really good.

I have high hopes for the 3DS but I want to see some good games coming out as well. Not just another gimmick.

How's the battery power?
The system will take about 3 1/2 hours to charge and then last about three to five hours on a full charge. That's with the 3D effects activated. The company guesses that people who keep the 3D turned off could get as many as eight hours. Turning off the system's wireless via a switch, lowering its brightness settings or even running it in a dimmer power-save mode will all help the machine last longer.

Just turn down some of the settings and you'll get more battery power.

Is it a typical Nintendo AA Battery machine too? or do they have some nice real rechargeable batteries in there.. if it has its own rechargeable batteries I dont care really that they only last 4ish hours.

In regards to the game list.. I think the game list for launch time seems really nice to me.

Nintendo 3DS also enjoys some of the strongest third-party support of any system launch. A partial list of titles coming soon to Nintendo 3DS includes Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked from Atlus; Super Street Fighter® IV 3D Edition and Resident Evil®: The Mercenaries 3D from Capcom; Madden NFL Football from EA SPORTS; The Sims? 3 from Electronic Arts; Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D from Konami; LEGO® Star Wars® III: The Clone Wars? from LucasArts?; Ridge Racer® 3D and Dual Pen Sports? from Namco Bandai Games America Inc.; Super Monkey Ball? 3D, Thor?: God of Thunder and CRUSH? 3D from SEGA; BUST-A-MOVE? UNIVERSE from Square Enix, Inc.; Samurai Warriors® Chronicles and Dead or Alive® Dimensions from Tecmo Koei America Corp.; and Asphalt? 3D, Tom Clancy?s Ghost Recon® Shadow Wars, Combat of Giants?: Dinosaurs 3D, Tom Clancy?s Splinter Cell® 3D, Rayman® 3D and Rabbids® Travel in Time from Ubisoft.

At least you can turn down the brightness so the battery lasts longer. I don't understand why some people have the brightness on full.

Wait with 3D on it only get's 3-5 hours? Damn my laptop gets less then 3 hours of battery life and it's about as close to 3D as rubbing your eyes in Salt is to teaching you about Frederico. Besides with the slider you can adjust how long the battery lasts based on how much 3D you want, so it really isn't that big of an issue.

Three to five hours is a pretty big disappointment, particularly for RPG players. I sucked the battery life straight out of a DS from an eight-hour session of Chrono Trigger. I'm disappointed to hear that I won't be able to do this without being tethered to a power socket.
3-5 hours in 3d mode. ~8 hours in DS/2d mode. These are at full/near full brightness with wifi and spotpass turned on. Should hit around 8 hours 3d on with brightness lowered to minimum and wifi/spotpass turned off and around 10 hours in DS/2d mode.

Nintendo's handhelds have been rechargeable battery only ever since the GBA SP. The 3DS is no different, as far as I could tell.

Unless you're on one monsters of a road trip (which i suggest switching between music and book with the DS) you're not going to have it on for 5 straight hours are you? :S

You don't have to have the console on for 5 hours straight. What if you play in 2 hour chunks but have no access to recharging when you normally would?

As far as I'm concerned, a 3-5 hour battery life on a hand-held is a deal break, especially at the price of said hand-held. What's the point of buying a system with build-in 3D if, to get a decent battery life, you have to turn it off? I seriously think this could bite Nintendo hard in the ass.

That's exactly what I do. Though if you're playing it outdoors, as in waiting at a bus stop or something, then it becomes harder to see...

Well I was shocked that the Wiimotes needed AA Batteries, it would be a nice back up option.. but the damn thing ships with 2 AA batteries that last all of a few hours of gaming. So seeing it in other devices wouldnt shock me again at this point.. hehe
