Facepalm.... I was going to get the 3DS for the new Monster Hunter, but no, I can't give Nintendo my money now...

I guess, like the US and Cuba, my Nintendo embargo will stand for some more time.

Did I see a regenerating magic bar, that also functions as ammo for the bow (in that I didn't see an arrow counter)? Burn the witch!
From what I can tell, the meter is actually more akin to a stamina bar for sub-weapons. Both the hammer and the drawing, 2-d walk use it as well. The drawing thing was a given, as a form of magic, but the hammer using it means other sub-weapons will most likely use it as well. It was probably designed so people don't have to go hunting for arrows, magic, and maybe bombs, if they need them to solve a puzzle.

I am the sort of fanboy who will probably buy this regardless of originality. But......please don't be called LttP2 please don't be called LttP2 please don't be called Lttp2...

Also, I hope they didn't just copy over the entire LttP world. I'd like some new areas, not just the Master Quest versions of familiar ones.

Also, Reggie is an intense man! It's like he's peering into parts of you that should not be peered into!

Actually...kinda interested in this one.

-Regenerating Magic Bar, used for items
I'm OK with this.

-Return to the SNES style music and sound effects
These took on a darker tone than most of the series. Moodier. Less bombastic.

-Most importantly: NO FUCKING YELL WITH EVERY SINGLE SWORD SWIPE (just the spin attack)
I have no idea why they added that to the GBA port of A Link to the Past.

But I guess this means the Master Sword didn't get to sleep...forever.

Oh my god what did they do...

This looks like ****.
They interpolated 3D models from SNES sprites. That's what.

This looks like its going to be really good. The old game play was still functional, touch aiming to use the bow and such would be a clear improvement, although it would affect the puzzles they can use. The additions they showed looked like they could add alot of options to level design, and so it shouldn't feel like a repeat of the same dungeons. However im still abit worried about the 3D, during a boss battle intense switching between heights could be a nightmare or excellent fun. I still trust Nintendo to do most of that correctly, and keeping the same world is actually a bonus for me as it means there will definitely be exploration.

Very high hopes, not enough for me to buy a 3DS, but I think I'll get an emulator just for this game.

What's with the wall mechanic? This isn't Paper Mario, it's Legend of Zelda. Seems like a shoehorned mechanic. Not really making sense with the rest of the established lore... unless I am missing something.

That being said with all the original games and a few of the newer ones coming to Wii U, I'm actually a little tinny weeny tempted to pick one up... if only it wasn't the Wii U...

I always find it amazing how people accuse Nintendo of lacking new ideas SOLELY because of their franchises still existing.

well

it's not like you can say majora's mask was explicitly a "necessary" game to the storyline

but then you'd be buried with ganon
Yeah, Majora's Mask was the same thing. That's the only reason I'm willing to hedge my bets and admit it's not guaranteed to be terrible.

We'll see what happens when it comes out, but I'm skeptical right now.

Fans are crying for aLttP remake or sequel, Nintendo gives them a sequel with completely new dungeons while saying it's in the same world.
How the fuck does that imply they are out of ideas?
They simply gave fans what they asked for.
Because that's what they've been doing with all their IP's for about twenty years now: whoring them out to the fanboys while the rest of us who remember what Nintendo are capable of wait for them to actually come up with something completely new.

OT: Some of these mechanics look pretty cool, especially the drawing thing, I just don't see why this had to be a Zelda game, and couldn't have been a completely new IP that made full use of the drawing thing.

Also, slightly off-topic, but does anyone else really want Reggie to come and read them a bedtime story? He has the most relaxing voice in the world and he looks like a living Pixar character.

Dang not even the first page and already someone is posting about the video without watching it.

For link being able to meld into walls and traverse new areas to solve puzzles is a new idea.

Sure a lot of the landscape is based on nostalgia but if they are just taking an already great setting and adding new puzzles and mechanics into the game I am all for it.
Just because they gave it a new gimmick and re-made the environments doesn't mean it's all that new. I'm still excited and am planning to buy it, but don't be like Nintendo and piss down our ears and tell us its raining. Because it's not a new idea it's an edited old one. I'd have been more impressed with a new Zelda game like a clock work Hyrule where Link has to save Zelda/Hyrule from the evil master inventor Ganandorf, you know just something new and fresh out of the zelda formula for the 3ds.
What I find funny is the concept of a "new" idea because there are none. It is very hard to be original when ever area that people have wanted to explore has been explored.

Well for the zelda franchise it is a new idea. Maybe for other series it is an old idea but for those that haven't played said games it is new. You say you want something fresh but truth is, if they did something fresh and different people would still bash them for that. So complain away as everyone is prone to do. I will enjoy my games without fear that other people might not enjoy it. lol

I'm not as excited as most people, but not as dismissive of it as others.

I'm sure it'll be good. Zelda on its worst days still runs circles around a lot of big franchises. I don't even mind a direct sequel to a game with all ends wrapped up. That's what lead to Majora's Mask, after all. I'm just not crazy about the art style, the animation looks wonky, and we only saw a tiny bit of gameplay. Wall-drawing mechanic looks like fun, though.

I'll wait for more info before I get properly excited. Can't believe I wrote that sentence about a Zelda title, but handheld Zelda isn't quite as surefire as the console titles.

What do you mean "second" best Zelda game? Link to the Past was the best Zelda game there ever was.

I dont know what you are getting on the defensive for. As I said I'm a fan too, have been since the gameboy colour days.

People have new ideas all the time. Minecraft being a good example of a new and original concept, that a lot of people really like. As for being original in an already explored area its difficult but not impossible, companies like Nintendo can afford to put some of their money into taking risks dont you think?

A concept for a Zelda game really isn't hard to come up with I did it in my first post to you. Just keep the same Zelda formula of Link vs Ganandorf to save Hyrule, and change a few things and put in some new ideas to make it fresher.

And did you seriously just say "if they did something fresh and different people would still bash them for that"?..... Yeah because everyone hated Occarina of time for the transition to 3d right? and everyone hated the ability to transform into a wolf in Twilight Princess, and everyone hated Skyward sword for its innovative sky setting. A few people may bash them for change, but almost everyone likes the new settings and ideas.

I'm not exactly complaining either because if you had read my post properly you will have noticed I'm buying this remake. All people are doing is voicing their concerns about the lack of new content with regards to the series. So yeah you sit there and enjoy your games as they get staler and staler. 'lol'

They have fantastic ideas.

But there's a difference between an existing franchise and constantly remaking games.

You might want to come up with a better example of a new and original concept than Minecraft, considering that Notch has admitted on several occasions that he was inspired by Infiniminer. http://notch.tumblr.com/post/227922045/the-origins-of-minecraft

Read the fifth paragraph. An you are really contradicting yourself. You say that this is a sign that Nintendo has run out of ideas, then you say that the wall-walking/melding thing is not that big of a change, then you say that all Nintendo needs to do is keep the same hero-villain dynamic and change a few things to keep it fresh. Which is exactly what Nintendo is doing, but you are saying it isn't enough.

Obligatory meme in 5...4...3..2..1

Ok I must must must have this. Oh.. damn need a 3ds. Sad I will most likely buy one just to have this game. Best Zelda of all time gets a sequel. I need new pants.

EDIT: Also re-reading the article, how is it that the Magic Hammer is new? It was in A Link to the Past 1, but I am pretty sure it was introduced in Zelda II: Adventure of Link, used to remove the boulders from the overworld map.
Right there with you.

The hammer was kind of around in Adventure of Link. It was used like twice on the overworld map. It was heavily used in LTTP. I'm very curious about how much will directly carry over from the previous game (world map, items, characters) and what they will do to keep it fresh. It's supposed to take place directly after LTTP so theoretically you should have all of the items you had when you finished LTTP.
