Did I say I hate Nintendo? Don't believe I did. I'm pretty sure the word 'hate', nor even any form of synonym, were present in my post. In fact, looking back at my post, I don't even see that I so much as said that I even dislike them. You sure you quoted the right person?

That said, the Nintendo-Defense-Force seem to be doing their usual thing. Or, as another poster put it:

I came to see Nintendo fans do their typical mental gymnastics and was not disappointed. The DLC looks like bad enough value already and you can't even buy them separately? Too bad all you want is the story DLC guys. Fork over for the useless cosmetics and "new hard mode" too.
But if you wish to keep projecting, InsanityRequiem, far be for me to stop you.

:/

I'm gonna go ahead and assume that this content was planned for launch, but because Nintendo rushed Zelda's release date to get a Switch launch title, it's been cut and sold later on.

I have never and will never buy a season pass, and I'd much rather have waited an extra while and had a complete game. But I'm not too disgusted. The promised content seems very small for an 'expansion', and I'll probably have finished the game and forgotten about it before the dlc even comes out.

Look, I'm not buying it Day One on principle. But Jesus guys, you are aware Nintendo is a company and that they will do whatever they can to make money, right? They aren't your friend, they certainly aren't "pure" as someone described it. It was only inevitable that one major franchise would get DLC (though Zelda wasn't what I was expecting).

I'm fully expecting DLC levels in Super Mario Odyssey and a DLC Battle Frontier in the Pokemon game.

The sad thing, though, people have been complaining for years why Nintendo isn't keeping up with the times and isn't more like other companies like Sony, Microsoft, and others. And now that it's happening, surprise surprise, people aren't liking it.

Be careful what you wish for, folks.
Life's a *****, isn't it?

I could maybe see that for the first bit, but the bigger story bit near the holidays?

I think Nintendo's been hanging out with the wrong crowd lately, because they're picking up the WORST parts of modern gaming.

And people want them to get with the times. This is some Monkey's Paw-level stuff.

"It's everybody else's fault" is a recurring lament. As if Nintendo is this pure, blameless Starchild being led astray by the wolf on the way to granny's.

unless the special costume is Link in a thong I don't really care for any of the DLC other than the extra story content in that 1 new dungeon

As is, "At least it took them this long to do it!", or, "At least they're not as bad as EA or Capcom!"

As if Nintendo is this pure, blameless Starchild being led astray by the wolf on the way to granny's.
Didn't you hear? Nintendo is the last, pure bastion of quality video games! They are the only hope of saving the industry!!![footnote]An industry that's exploded, exponentially, with success and progress. An industry that's moved far beyond the antiquated mentality and philosophies of the days of yore. (for better or worse) An industry, and community, that has long since left Nintendo behind.[/footnote]

Sad day... now you can't even buy a complete Zelda game anymore. None of that stuff seems that substantial. All of it should come with the game (or free DLC later on). Perhaps if it added a lot of extra content (mainly, quests/subplots), it'd be worth it.

Gaming really is declining.

But don't you DARE judge them for it, because the other big publishers have done it with great success at the expense of the consumer, Nintendo would be stupid to not follow suit.
Of course I'll judge them. I was happy when Zelda games didn't follow suit with that. Now they do and that's pretty damn disappointing. The time they get credit is when they didn't do that for the game. Not gonna be happy they did it late, I was happier when that wasn't what I was supposed to expect from them. Though I suppose it's not like the signs weren't there

Having to buy Hard Mode?

That one seems new to me as far as terrbile DLC practices go.

I don't know what the Cave of Trials is, it was probably explained in one of the many Videos I can't watch due to my terrible internet, but overall, this doesn't sound like a good value, especially this thing with having to buy Hard Mode and having to buy a in-game fanboy shirt...just really rubs me the wrong way.
If I were a betting man, this would be the part where the psychotic part of fanbase would try to justify Nintendo's use of bad DLC, but if it were any other developer or publisher, they would be chewing them out of the ass. Seriously, hard mode as DLC? Nintendo, you idiots, I never thought you stoop that low. My reason for not getting a Switch just went tenfold now.

This really took the wind out of my sails. I can't say I was super hyped about the Switch before, but I had preordered just to play Breath of The Wild. Now you're telling me $400 doesn't even get me "new" hard mode? Damn, Nintendo.

But that's the thing though, Nintendo will get hated into oblivion regardless of what they do, right or wrong. They have been officially marked for death by the gaming community, and there's nothing Nintendo or any of us can do about it. Its why I laugh when people say Nintendo should go third party, because we all know that their games would never succeed on the other consoles, nobody wants what they are selling.

I wish people would stop announcing DLC before a game has even been released. DLC isn't automatically bad, and some of these DLC sem like a good way to get the most out of a story. Like the brand new story segment is a nice way to pay homage to the original LoZ ... like a New Game+ mode.

I can get behind that. It captures the massively open nature of the original by (hopefully) replicating that feel of a brand new way to explore everything out there yet again.

That's a great idea. If it pans out like that, of course. Or maybe it's merely like they're planning out additional areas to be introduces like a whole new realm. Which could be a fun way to introduce us to the ever changing face of Hyrule.

But maybe just talk about this stuff ... not pre-market? It feels like you're trying to pull the wool over our eyes. You should probably wait until something like reviewers and general market sentiments before you start counting your cuckoos before they hatch. You might need all of that additional content feed as to pave over hurt feelings. And that could be a serious issue.

Look, it's good to be a confident about your game. But already talking about monetizing future content without even releasing your platform and the game is a pretty big problem if it turns out you need to release that content for free to generate additional good will and you said before; "The game was so great we couldn't *help* but talk about hiding real content out of the game and plastering it over with cosmetics as future paid DLC!"

It's frighteningly bad PR and you could have avoided it by SAYING NOTHING!

Why did you say this? Why did you talk about this? What convinced you this was a good idea?

Good thing Skyward Sword already killed my interest in new Zelda games (and my faith in Nintendo's game making ability in general) or I'd be feeling pretty annoyed about all this.

Saw this coming a mile away. They've been incredibly anti-consumer for years now, you just wait till their games become episodic and has random DLC/micro-transactions that increase your power.

Nope. Third playthrough was added in a patch. Only the new level cap costed money.

OT:
Funny thing is, I had some passing interest in this Zelda game. Until the rubbish DLC content was announced.

So here's my question for everyone, was Mario Kart 8 not a complete game because it had DLC? What about Fire Emblem? ( granted thats possibly a bad example given Fates business model) Smash Bros?

the fact is you are jumping to conclusions about the game not being finished at launch because they're adding stuff
*Looks at the massive fuckton of DLC that Fire Emblem churns out, including very well crafted stories including explanations for the main villain's motivation in Fates, essentially what are cheat codes for EXP And gold, and a character that was present for free in the last game* Uh-yup. Also, I enjoyed Fates, but the business model of all the campaigns being sold separately still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Also, Fire Emblem didn't lock Lunatic mode behind a paywall. This isn't anything new, but seriously, fuck this noise.
