Nintendo Confirms Work is Underway on New Consoles

Nintendo lead creative Shigeru Miyamoto says that the next Mario game may be reserved for the new console.

Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed to the QOL platform [http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory/miyamoto-amiibo-zelda-mario-movie-27699825?singlePage=true] Nintendo announced earlier in the year, but he does state that the next Mario platformer will possibly be reserved for it.

"From early on, I wanted Mario to be that character in the digital world, so that with each digital evolution, he was there to usher in the next era. I think that maybe when we release the next hardware system, you can look forward to seeing Mario take on a new role or in a new game," said the developer.

He added that while the focus in 2015 will be in "providing a robust line-up of Wii U software," Nintendo as a whole has groups working on ideas for new hardware systems. "While we're busy working on software for the Wii U, we have production lines that are working on ideas for what the next system might be."

In the interview, Miyamoto also commented on his latest upcoming title: Star Fox [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/conferences/e32014/11663-Star-Fox-Wii-U-Coming-in-2015]. "The story might not be too different from past "Star Fox" games, but the gameplay mechanics are going to feel very different because of the two-screen system of the Wii U with the GamePad and TV screen. It'll make for a very fun and unique way to play."

Cant mean that. Hinting at a new console or no Mario until a new console will damage sales. So im sure its something else. Though no idea what that could be.

I couldn't "Meh" harder. Nintendo doing its own thing as per usual, and in the process will likely further limit their audience to the 5 and 50+yr old circuit, alienating the vast expanse of gamers in between. Suspected system specs of the Wii-Me? (we all know that will be the name) - slightly below PS3 specs, because as we all know, better technology does not make better games. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going back to play Dragon Age: Inquisition, and might play Far Cry 4 soon after.

Yeah, of course, that's how they always do it. 'Blackmail' you into getting the new one to play the new versions of the same games.

Of course if it's just New Super Mario Bros Wii V again that's another big huge yawn. Super Mario 3D World 2....? Okay, you got me you jerks.

Well, I mean, this isn't much of a surprise. Consoles don't just spring up over night. While it may seem early, probably isn't a bad idea to get everything in line so that it goes off without a hitch. Chances are the Wii U will have a shorter life than most consoles (I own one and love it, so no doom saying here, just pointing out that it likely isn't gonna have a long life.) So I wouldn't be surprised to see a new console announced in a couple years.

As for a new Mario game, I would love another Mario Galaxy. Them games were fun and I'd imagine there is more ideas you could fit in to them.

All I care is that they clearly care about the Wii U still. Talked my GF into getting me one for XMas, I don't want to hear anything about a new console. With the way this works... we could be looking at 3+ year wait. We'll see though.

Though anyone who knows anything about Nintendo would know this would be nothing new....back when the Wii U launched. Because Nintendo has never not started work on their next generation right after their current one has launched.

You mean as opposed to the 15-30 heterosexual white male demographic that everyone else caters to ANYWAY despite the fact that it's been shrinking for awhile and has little room for growth?

Shouldn't be very surprising. Nintendo likes to plan ahead with their console development. The Wii was conceived in 2001 as the GameCube was launching, and the Wii U began development as soon as 2008. The Wii U just passed 2 years of its life, so it was only a matter of time before they started working on a new system.

Uh...how is this news? I thought EVERY company with a console on the market starting working on the next one as soon as the old one left the door. Hasn't it been confirmed that the PS4 started even before the PS3 was released? Besides, Nintendo was hiring back in July for hardware specialists and coders so even then this news is slow.

Also, the QOL is most definitely not a game console. We have seen what it's designed for: putting people to sleep. Well, one of its functions, anyways. It's seems to be another Nintendo attempt to dive into the market of health and fitness. It doesn't really seem to be the type of thing to be a game console.

I'm much more interested in the Amiibo news. The fact that they will create cards to imitate the figurines worries me that they aren't going to be making new figurines after all and instead just release cards for those who didn't have that much money to spend when they were released. Though I would be interested in seeing an Amiibo game in the vein of either Skylanders or Disney Infinity.

Another thing that interested me is that Miyamoto had no idea about the Mario movie. Seems like that deal was low on their minds.

Companies are always planning ahead. This is just the start of years of work, so there's no need to panic...

Okay, hang on for a second. QOL isn't a new console per se, is it? I thought it was supposed to be some sort of fitness tracker and stuff that might possibly integrate with Wii U and 3DS. If so, a "Mario" title on there to gameify things probably won't be that big a deal in the first place.

Like, did I miss an announcement where it's a full-blown console in itself?

Anyway, I have no doubt that the Wii-Why is already in development. It should be no shock, especially since we already have the New 3DS.

And we don't even know he's talking QOL. And he doesn't seem to confirm anything except the obvious. A Mario title on the next Nintendo platform?

Technically, I'm not even sure it's so much that it's confirmation, but it's pretty obvious. It's not exactly "Half-Life 3 confirmed."

Look. I don't care which of you is right, it's still wrong. The only demographic gaming should cater to is MEEEEEEE! Is it too much to ask that gaming consider my specific and personal desires as a priority?

Nothing insightful to say here. I only wonder what kind of innovation/gimmick they'll come up this time.

"We want to do what we wanna do, not follow the crowd".

Well you're right Miyamoto, you're not following the crowd, you're leading it. Well, at this point you've shown them the way, and then got stepped on as they've done what you do better.

Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Fifa and NBA can all technically be criticized of remaking the same game every year, but the dollars show that they're doing it a hell of a lot better than you guys are.

I got myself all excited for a new Nintendo console.... Then instantly lost interest when the Wii U touch screen was mentioned....

If only Nintendo would learn from their mistake with Wii U & Microsoft's mistake with Window's 8. That being that most people DON'T want touch screens with their non portable devices.

The only reason I can imagine (right now) that Nintendo is making a new console is because Wii U is now 3rd in Global sales and they hope to release a new console before Wii U is 2nd in Japan sales.

Meh. They're probably doing no such thing. This is just a typical console life-cycle. To release a new system every 5 years or so requires starting design work on the new system almost as soon as you have to old one out the door. (if not before, even.)

Doubtful. With this only being mentioned here, the Wii U is probably still going to end up with the typical 5 year lifespan any other console has had...

The Wii was in development for years before they even announced it's existence. A console isn't something you make in 6 months, it's something you plan and work on for many many years...

Just so your rants can be more accurate in the future.

I think you mean the next console will have "slightly below PS4* specs", since, the Wii U is more powerful than the PS3.

Also, by the current count of games on each console, I'd say that better technology doesn't even equal better performance, since the Wii U has more games running at 1080p/60fps than both the Xbone and PS4 combined :D

You could just save up and get yourself more than 1 console, it is possible to own both a Wii U and a PS4/Xbone (or all 3, plus a pc, ps3, x360, 3ds, and vita like I do!).

Well, if the new console has a touch screen again, it damn well had better have multi-touch. It's pretty pathetic that the Wii U doesn't.
