Nintendo "Disappointed" by Own E3 Conference

Nintendo's Cammie Dunaway is questioning Nintendo's lackluster E3 showing.

Nintendo Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Cammie Dunaway took center stage at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/content/e3/2008] to demonstrate some of the company's casual offerings during its press conference. Eager gamers following events from their computers found the lack of Mario, Zelda and Pikmin games disheartening.

Dunaway answered the unsatisfied by explaining that "we were disappointed with our performance at E3."

"There were titles like Wario which we think will be really fun titles that we should have showcased. We were excited that Mr. Miyamoto made the commitment that Pikmin is coming," said Dunaway in reference to Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto's announcement at an E3 press meeting that a development team was working on a new Pikmin game [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/85086]. "It would have been nice if we could have said that on stage. But, we think it was a good recognition for us that we care for our core fans, and not just the new people who are now discovering Nintendo."

Despite the letdown, Dunaway hopes that she can connect to all gaming communities in her position as the head of marketing, a position she took after leaving Yahoo! as Chief Marketing Officer last year, due to her own inexperience with the industry.

"My position as head of sales and marketing is that I'm listening to the fans. I'm championing the things they care about. I'm helping to make sure we bring great games to the marketplace," she said. "I'm genuine, I'm new to gaming, I'm not pretending to be more than I am. I'm having a blast. I feel similar to people who are just discovering games for the first time. I think for us as an industry, its good that we're growing. That brings more money to the industry. That makes it attractive for more people to develop more games. We have to embrace the fact that new gamers can be good for everybody. Core gamers should help new gamers to discover their passion for gaming."

Sounds like a cop-out. Miyamoto only mentioned Pikmin after being pressed anyway.

Pretty sure Nintendo concentrated on the casual audience for E3 because they were expecting general press to come out. However the general press only show up if the conference is big, which hasn't been true for a while.

After this comment I'm very worried at what Nintendo has for us "hardcore" gamers. If they're "working on Pikmen" or "working on Zelda" then by god if you're disapointed with your own conference GIVE US SOMETHING TO REDEEM THAT!

I'm worried...

Cammie Dunaway, wasn't she the one that everyone wanted to strangle with the noose of her own over enthusiasm?

It would seem Nintendo has a sideline in doppelgangers...

Wow, is Nintendo thick or what? they target the casual gamers at a conference for core games, wtf? and now they are treating the only likable person at Nintendo at this point like a dog. Not to mention anything more because even though I want to strangle them I still got started at Nintendo.

And that's all they have on us is nostalgia, no good games, just what was...

Also FREE MYAMOTO! HE'S YOUR ONLY HOPE IF YOU EVER WANT A DECENT GAME(even though all they want is money and crap quality products)

Good to know. I like Miyamoto's games(or atleast a handful) but Nintendo needs to start depending on him less and expand. I hope this is a good oman.
