I'm wondering if it will use disks, since a cartridge probably won't be enough to hold games that are Gamecube-level.

The original DS has 4 version already. I wonder how many this new one will have. 5? 10? 100?

They have just released DSi XL or whatever the hell its called, so I doubt that they will release a brand new console. I don't know how many people it'll piss off if they do that. Having said that, I would eventually get the DS2.

My DS fat got stolen several years ago.( I left my door unlocked in a bad neighborhood so it was kind of my fault.) Since then, I have resolved not to buy another DS until the next one comes out. If this handheld is as great as they say it is, I look forward to buying it. I also look forward to carrying it around at all times and never leaving it alone in my car.

They could just use some sort of memory card system. Like a SD or something similar with some kind of lock. A SDHC card can get as big as 32 GB and that would be enough to store games for the 360 and more on it. I've actually discussed that they should use some card thingy on new consoles rather than discs once before.

This is gonna be epic! I am definitely gonna get the DS2, though I myself am gonna call it "Gameboy Omega" until the true title is announced. I hope it's as awesome as it sounds!

I'm not so interested in the DS2, but if it is released this year, that means that Sony will have it's PSP2 out on the market soon. If it has two analog nubs and ps2 classics for download, I will be a happy clam.

Hopefully they'll catch up with Apple and Sony and due away with physical media entirely. Throw a 30 GB HDD in there or something. Though, if they do stay with physical media, flash memory certainly has potential for a hella'lot more storage than disks at this point.

If the games are going to continue to be "Super touchscreen: let's touch a screen" And "The legend of touchscreen: a touch to the screen" count me out. The touchscreen is a lame and unfun gimmick and has so many inherent flaws from a gaming perspective it makes me want to smack a *****.

I think they'll probably stay with the card idea especially since memory prices are so low, it's why they went with that format for the DS. Keeps games relatively inexpensive and also cards don't have as much battery drain as disc media. Given Nintendo's relative inexperience with digital distribution I'm not really sure I'd want them to get rid of physical media just yet.

Yeah I totally remember having every single game forcing me to use the touchscreen, no wait that's not true at all. The touchscreen controls are not mandatory and I don't know why people keep pretending it is.

I've bought the original DS ("Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt" FTW), the DS Lite, and the DSi, and yet I still find myself lusting for the larger screens of the DSi XL, and now there's the DS2 possibly on the horizon...
And I want it.

I loved Super Mario Sunshine. I think that the number of people who liked it is up to about 12 now, I'll let you know if that number changes.
If there was a handheld SMS or a Zelda game on the level of the Wind Waker, I would consider purchasing it.

Aww D:

Is it really necessary to come out with a new handheld? >_>
Given that the DS is about 6 years old, and the average console tends to last about 5 years...

Granted that the current gen of consoles is also about 5 years old with no news of the next console, but that's simply because the graphics are at the point where... what are they going to update? The only thing they can really improve on the 360 or PS3 is by improving on areas where only a handful of gamers will notice the difference, and that handful is probably already devoted to the PC since that's the console where you can really tinker with that background stuff.

Meanwhile the DS2 (according to current rumors) will be like the jump from the N64 to the Gamecube.

Well, I never got an original DS, but if they released this with backwards-compatability so that I could play the DS's back catalogue until something great came out, I would totally pick one up. In fact, I'll probably just skip getting a DS either way, so that I can save up for this, whenever it may be released.

They've done similar moves over the reiterations of the gameboy and eventually the GBA. My DS was one of those bad hinge models, so I haven't been able to play a thing on it for ages. A new hand held would probably get me interested again.

I think it is starting to sound like Sega making too many consoles too fast again. DS, DSLite, DSi, DSiXL, and now the possibility of DS2. Can't they slow down for a moment so we can think about buying one of these stupid things?

Another one?

DS, DS Lite, DSi and the DS XL... now the DS2?

So many people must be pissed of that they buy the most recent version just to have the next version announced.
This is why I wait a year or two before I decide to buy a game console of any kind.
(And then I usually buy the last version before it because then it'll will be super cheap!)

This gives me a conundrum. My DS Lite is on its last legs. Battery is now weak, L button is busted, hinge refuses to stay in place...I really want a new DS but I don't really want to wait until the end of the year. But I don't want to buy a DSi if a new system is coming out anyways.

Man, this is horrible timing for me <_<
