We all know why they're doing this right? It rhymes with brused shame parkit.

I've always hated how nintendo runs this whole pokemon thing with telling you to catch em all, (or dangling that idea in front of us obsessive compulsives) while making several difficult if not reasonably impossible to get, but I accept they design them more for the Japanese market which I acknowledge has more going for it to make the social aspects easier to acheive. This is just a cheap "buy it now or lose out so don't wait for this to be on the used rack at gamestop" move. "Oh and don't wait for Pokemon Grey or whatever the third game in this generation you know will come out" is probably a factor as well.

I don't know how well it'll work. With this francise you either dive in day one or don't get it at all.

Wi-Fi. Good. Thank you, Nintendo. Much better than that "go to a store" crap.
Agreed. There are many hacked and non-legit pokemon out there, but holding wi-fi events is a nice way to keep the game series alive.

Meh, I never really cared for catching them all anyway.

However, I did care about SEEING them all. Back when I still played Pokémon I wanted to have information on every one in my Pokédex and that meant that I would either catch or face every single one in battle, which was impossible since there were no trainers with Charmander (I think, I don't remember which Pokémon I didn't have, but it was one of the original three starters)

So not only do you have to go to Nintendo events for some pokemon and socialise but now buy this game within a certain time frame. This is really getting out of hand, the first two were the best because they were so simple, why are you guys trying to complicate the whole universe beyond anything I want to play

[troll]
I think Nintendo miss the point, if you buy it within a certain time frame and you go to Nintendo events, you clearly have no friends to trade with so catching all of them is impossible

[/troll]
I think you have been also missed the point. What is meant by this is that the event at which you can get it will be on from the first day of realease, for about a month. These "events" are online, so all it means is that if you buy the game within the first month and have wifi, then you can get this.

As has been mentioned, the event will probably run again, as Victini has an event only move that isn't in this realease.

This is project $10 gone to far.
Except for the fact that nintendo has always been doing this stuff. It did it back in the red and blue version with mew, and i'm pretty sure in every game in the series after that (with a new set of poke'mon).

Oh it wasn't EXACTLY the same thing with mew though. Mew was given out in special events, you had to attend the event to get him.

Exactly it didn't matter where or when you bought the game. All that mattered was you were in the right place at the right time (which in itself is still unfair). I just find it funny EA does it and almost eveyone snaps. Nintendo does it and almost everyone cheers.

That's even worse, many people had an absolute nightmare trying to get online with the DS. I spent a good few ours trying to get it to work, using Nintendos help guide and still have had no luck. It's far easier just to either cheat and get it or trade with someone who cheats

I already caught them all back in red and blue. I have no need to catch them all again.
Amen Brotha! I keep telling myself that every time another generation keeps coming out. I though the second Gens were neat but everything after that were just a total money scheme. You disappoint me Nintendo.

with how easy it is to get access to wireless internet access even temporarily as long as you know that the event is going on there's no real excuse to miss out on this. I mean, it's easy.
step1: buy game
step2: play 5 minutes in to get the pokedex(i suspect that's a pre-req)
step3: go on line to collect your prize at like any coffee shop or if your area is like mine even a local grocery store has wireless access.
and you're done. it sucks if you miss out on it. I know I missed out on like ALL of the special event pokemon in HG before the shiny beasts from gamestop but I don't feel any compulsion to cheat my way just to get shiny critter X. Honestly my play style is to make a semi-balanced group I like and just beat the game with that. if along the way I catch 'em all, more the better for me though I doubt I will ever be able to.

Oh dear, what's this? I seem to have activated the 'give Liberty Pass' item-specific code, like I and every other person that wanted a hard-to-get pokemon has been doing since Deoxys cropped up. It's how I got him, and Darkrai, and Arceus... I understand the spirit of the hype, but saying it's going to be some kind of trophy is like saying Shaymin is the holy grail. And he isn't.

Good thing I've pre-ordered.

This scheme is much more reasonable than I usually know Nintendo for, so... congratulations, guys.
Please don't go back to that 'specific physical location only' shit...

Of course, getting my DS to work right with the wireless router back home was a little bit of a pain; the DS only works with WEP encryption methods. If the router doesn't use it, you either need to configure it so it does use WEP or disable encryption entirely.

Aww, come on, people.
You know there are millions of pokemon fans who will be buying the game first-thing, and this is a nice little extra for them.
The "Gotta catch 'em All!" slogan was dropped years ago, and with good reason. The fun of pokemon isn't just collecting anymore- its about collecting pokemon you like the most and having a blast with them.

Let the enthusiasts have their Veemon. Most event pokemon get released more than once, anyway.
Well said =)

It's nice if you get the Victini, (or whatever it's called) but it's not the end of the world if you don't. I'm not sure how many people really buy a new pokemon game to catch them all anyway - I mean, either you have to go through a tedious trade process, or you have to to go back and catch the same zillion pokemon all over again - and let's face it, if you've played every game, that would mean you't caught pikachu like 12 times by now...

I will be getting Pokemon Black (or White, I'm not fussed), because Poekmon games are hugely nostalgic for me and make me happy =) I remember playing Red when it first came out on the original Gameboy, and no other handheld game has had quite the same effect on me since. I still have the cartridge, and that gameboy...perhaps Ii'll go for a memory trip now... ;-)

Can I access the wi-fi through a WPA connection?

I'm sick and tired of missing out on everything because I don't use WEP.
Well the DS itself can connect to both WPA and WEP, but apparently the game(Pokemon SoulSilver) only connects to WEP. I really hope they add this on the upcoming Black & White. Or else I'm going to be really sad, but still manage to get a hold on this(it will just take some longer time tho)

I will be getting a copy of this in time but I have a WPA modem and my DS won't connect to it. Does anyone have suggestions on where I can find a good WiFi connection?

I play pokemon competitively so I doubt I'll use this little guy. and I know I won't get him during the event so I'll just do what everyone else does to get event pokemon, use pokesav.
