Nintendo Might "Look At" SNES, Game Boy and GBA Remix Titles

NES Remix director Koichi Hayashida says that a strong enough demand from fans could lead to expanded remix games in the future.

With Nintendo just a few days away from firing off another salvo of nostalgia-laden fun with its game NES Remix 2, many are wondering just how far the company intends to take its new "remix" concept. It's not as if the company would be lacking places to go, of course. With Nintendo's presence in the game industry extending back a solid three decades, there's no lack for titles and platforms that it could turn to to continue this emerging property.

NES Remix director Koichi Hayashida, in turn, has indicated that Nintendo might be willing to expand into other console libraries to give gamers similar re-visitations and twists on their favorite old games. That said, he made no bones about the what the deciding factor would be: Nintendo's fans.

"Personally, I have a large desire to explore that very idea," said Hayashida. "But it really harkens back to the answer I just gave. Does the marketplace want it or need it?" He would go on to affirm that if fans expressed enough of a desire to see new Remix games based on other Nintendo consoles, that the company might find the means to deliver. "If we get a big enough cry for that, with a lot of people saying, 'Hey, we'd love to see more of these perhaps for the SNES, Game Boy or Game Boy Advance,' then it would be something we can take a look at."

Setting aside whether or not the Remix games are even worth buying <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/editorials/reviews/10834-NES-Remix-Review-This-Cartridge-Blows>in the first place, I have to admit that there are some remix titles I wouldn't mind seeing. While Hayashida mentioned the SNES and some of Nintendo's handheld consoles, I'd personally love for the company revisit the N64. Granted, the early days of 3D could be a tad awkward at times, but that early clumsiness could be fodder for challenges all on its own. Just imagine the mileage the company could get out of remix stages based on Superman 64!

SNES Remix? If NES remix wouldn't run on a 3DS wouldn't a SNES remix would get choppy running on Deep Thought?

I would buy a thousand copies of Super Mario Bros if I could play online with friends. I won't buy one copy of a bunch of minigames with smb themes.

Yes, because, as we all know it, Nintendo always listens to what their fans want. /sarcasm

Sometimes I think they say things like that just to piss people off some more. When are we gonna be able to buy Game Cube games as Virtual Console titles? (and that?s coming from a guy with a working Game Cube and a backwards compatible Wii in my possession) Give me Luigi?s Mansion, goddamit!

I find the concept of NES Remix interesting, but I think US$ 14,99 is a little steep for a single player collection of 8-bit minigames. I would probably buy it for US$ 9,99.

But, hey, Nintendo thinks it can charge US$ 7,99 for old GBA titles (I bought Enslaved and Need For Speed Most Wanted off the PSN for 5 bucks each this year), so I guess pricing isn?t their speciality...

Did the first one not absolutely blow? This one better make up for it. Otherwise, it's futile to even say that. I still want legit fan mods for old games, and that's a blind shot in the dark.

That actually sounds like a good idea. If Ninty could get their software to accept a second player online for every old game, that would be awesome for the people like to enjoy 2 player NES and SNES games with many different kids of people. Though, if they did do it, they'd probably charge the second player the full price for a game they didn't already have even if they only want to play online as player 2.

Yeah, Ninty listened to me and now we got an excellent 2D Metroid coming out for the 3DS and a Retro developed one for the Wii U. Other: M was officially recognized as a hyperspace nightmare Samus had after the events of Fusion, too. And Zelda's are gonna come out more frequently, without smug salesman and annoying mailman characters, and without making their latest consoles gimmick hold back the quality of the game (like the Wii TP, SS and the 2 DS Zeldas did)./scathing sarcasm aimed at the Big N

I don't think we'll have GC title's on the VC soon, despite the Wii U being a beefed up Wii which is a beefed up 'cube. They probably fear backlash from the people who bought a 8GB U and can store maybe 3 games tops at a time with nothing else. And they know they have no self control on their pricing scheme and would charge the same prices second hand shops want for common games.

Pricing certainly isn't their specialty when they want $5 for SMB 3(the game they've sold over 15 million copies of and continue to package it for almost every system they make), haven't accepted the Wii U isn't selling because of its price/must have exclusives ratio, and like you said are charging too much for this and GBA games compared to 7th gen home console games that came out after the GBA was long since retired. They need to get their priorities straight and either offer free games on both VCs every month a la PS Plus(but without a subscription fee) or drop the prices on software who's master discs/floppies/HDDs/backup tapes had to be dusted off to use. Oh, and they might want to try advertising that they're doing to the VC outside of those that already frequent the Wii U or 3DS's eshop.

I don't see the appeal of what is basically a romhack of games being sold for full price.
They already resell their games at insane levels now they're reselling them but WACKY, challenges and crazy filters to change things up.

Is not insane, just crazy >:)

If they manage to include Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore, I might be interested enough to learn more about this.

OH GOD. Aria of Sorrow... PLEEEEEEASE.

*drools*

My favorite handheld game ever... and I haven't been able to play it for ages! It costs like 200 dollars to buy a copy of this game! If I could play it on my 3DS... or wait, is this Remix business a Wii U thing?
