I remember Extra Credits did an episode on Brazil about this. I guess this means things have not gotten any better since?
No, they haven't. We also have a water shortage crysis (in spite of being the richest country in fresh water), really violent summers have started, our main oil company is in the sewers and the chosen ministers by our GREAAAAAT PRESIDENT are garbage.

It is Venezuela route for us.

VÃO TOMAR NO CÚ, POLÍTICOS RETARDADOS FILHOS DA PUTA!

Sorry for that.

Nintendo practically doesn't exist in South America. I don't know why, but it's 90% Sony vs. Microsoft around these parts.

In fact, you can by a Xone for 444USD in the big retailers now. Also Microsoft is doing very good localizations and keeping the game prices at 74USB even with inflation being the new black around here. Is not perfect but at least it's a start. Obviously, if the country broke in 2015-2018, video games will our last problem but all things considered Microsoft is fighting the good fight.

Besides, like Xbone, Xone is a sexual pun in portuguese. One name, two languages. It's kind of impressive.

We also got a increase light bill adjustment (7% if I am not mistaken) right on summer where the lights bills usually go higher thanks to use of refrigeration...
All thanks to our fucking Ewok overlord. (Our president looks like a Ewok if you haven't caught the joke, just type "Dilma Ewok" on google to see the comparision)
And in case you are wondering he said "Go fuck yourself, retarted politicians son of *****."

Let's be honest here. It's mostly Sony, Microsoft did gain some momento with the 360, but it seems it's starting to lose it again.

The light bills 7% is necessary since the dams of hydroeletrical power are almost empty and we have to go thermal to compensate.
If we had nuclear, wind or solar or at least an effective system of energy distribution of the current one the price would have been lower.

Ah, our INCRRREEEDIBLE PRESIDENT used to be the ministry of energy before...

PS: The more appropriate translation is "Go fuck yourselves in the butthole, retarded politicians sons of whores."

Oh no, totally. Sony has been leading since the PS2. But at least stores sell Xbox games, and there's Xbox publicity in the streets/TV. Meanwhile I have yet to find a single legit chain store that sells Wii U games.

so... they want to build a black market of video games?
well normally when a nation uses tarrifs like this its to protect its own industry , see USA with peanuts or japan and cars but (and i have only the info in this thread to form this theory so take it for what its worth ie not much) they are trying to make companies manufacture locally. trying to generate jobs and infrastructure.

It's ok, it always fun to try to translate by myself. First language is French here, so can somewhat read Spanish, Portuguese and Italian even if I never learned them. But I admit I only understood tomar due to cú and the second part of the sentence. =p

We have a duty to spread swearing in all the languages of the world. "Vão tomar no cú" = "Go get fucked in the butthole"

"Tomar" = "To take" but in a swearing context can mena "get fucked"

"Cú" = "Asshole" (the body part)
