And this is a problem unique to Nintendo how exactly?
Because Nintendo releases new systems based entirely around gimmicks (motion-controls, 3D, etc.) and in the place of true innovation or fresh ideas, we get "Pikmin, now with motion controls!" or "Ocarina of Time, now in 3D!"

I suppose this trend is no longer unique to Nintendo anymore though, what with Sony and Microsoft joining the gimmick bandwagon. Hell, we've already gotten wind of games like Forza, only now we don't need to hold a controller! Oooooo.

I'd bet my life that this phrase will be the gaming motto of 2011. "[insert favorite IP from the last 5 years here], now with motion controls!"

Its a good piece of hardware and it's going to be in the hands of alot of people. This time with the power for more intensive games. I give it a year of shovelware before some good stuff comes out. We might see your nintendo staples. The last mario kart i really liked was on the DS so maybe we get another good one. Hold the motorbikes and horendous item saturation. We get it, you guys invented the kart racer, you don't have to prove it to us by making the driving part of it totally irrelevant.

It has respectable cpu muscle, an analogue stick, a touch screen, and a bigass 3d screen.

Oh well, it's getting the next Super Robot Wars, so that'll at least be something new (as long as it's not region locked).
And as long as it doesn't have 3D SD models like GC/XO/NEO. I know they want to make use of the 3D technology, but I am sure they can do that without those awful models. -_-

Anyway, other than enabling third-party developers with friendly hardware and a generous policy, there is little Nintendo itself can do to ensure that remakes won't be just straight ports. It will be up to the developers themselves to produce quality games for the platform.
It's up to us to leave lazy ass ports sitting on the shelf.

If developers had integrity; do you honestly think EA and Activision would still exist? Both are companies that shell out some extremely good games; sifted with every sell-out piece of junk-ware and movie cash-in available.

Which pretty much means we'll be seeing 3D ports of PS2 and Wii games. Instead of, ya know... taking advantage of the technology. Boo.

Nintendo, do you learn nothing? Almost your whole company is built on lazy ports and basic rehashes of the same concepts with a new coat of paint.

Good luck with the whole "integrity" thing, though. That's sure to work.

Well, to their credit, the (titles that mattered on the) DS did mostly consist of excellent original games, and overall there were very few remakes.

The Wii, though...Remember how that went? The few developers who gave the platform decent support sold next to nothing.

All I have been hearing from people on this site is their desire for remakes. So lots of remakes apparently is desired.

It speaks volumes that he only namechecked Japanese developers as having the integrity to do remakes and ports with sufficient care.
