Well, this is a good thing. It would be outright awkward to release a new Zelda, Metroid, Mario, and the such with tons of promises of future releases (I'm looking at you, Tales of Graces) then on the same year pull a new system out of their ear.

Timing is everything. The best time the Wii should release WiiX2 with blu ray capabilities and an option to swap between standard def and hd, as well as some snazzy new controller design that involves your tongue, would be when the world economy is on a better foot.
I want to see Tales of Graces over here so badly! I heard somewhere though that its producers don't often release outside of Japan. Have you heard anything to the contrary? I'd love to know!

As an aside I had two PS2's. The first one was a massive misshaped monstrosity and eventually the laser became misaligned so I bought a nice new thin sleek model.
This is something I heard happened quite a bit with PS2s. Fortunately it never happened with mine.

Hmmm. What about that memory expansion for the N64? Can we get some sort of easy-fix way to give the Wii some balls? After all, why settle for Goldeneye when you can have Perfect Dark?
Well cause the Wii can't have either thanks to the massive legal clusterfuck that it would take to get even Goldeneye onto VC. I know what you meant though. I don't think they put any method of memory boosting into the Wii like they did with the N64 but then again Nintendo has this odd habit of planning for things way ahead of schedule.

Anyway I'm glad Nintendo is trying to stick to their guns on this, especially since I like the Wii and would probably get a successor to it but I'd rather not have to. Really I'm hoping the game industry as a whole stops this race to realism because I feel we've hit a zenith for now in terms of power and graphics. I mean when the Unreal 3 engine is designed to last for a decade and the Source Engine seems to be on the same track, it's good to see Microsoft and Sony plan to keep this generation stationary for a while.

Suprise, suprise.

What Nintendo really needs to master before the next generation is how to get genuinely good third party games get the praise and sales they deserve.
It's really not Nintendo's fault that 3rd-party Wii games aren't being marketed well. That lies with the publishers of the games.

Why would anyone play either when they can have Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament?

I don't really think that the Wii is the platform of choice for the FPS player.

What surprises me more is why that woman works for Nintendo.

She died on the first Goomba on NSMBWii...

Maybe someday Nintendo will finally realize that the reason the PS2 sold so well was because it was also a DVD-player and multimedia-device, an entire territory of hardware that Nintendo haso far avoided with almost admirable gusto.
I mean for fuck's sake, the Playstation 2 was released 10 years ago!
That's an entire decade for Nintendo to get the hint and they're still not doing shit!
Jesus H. Corbet, Nintendo, wake the fuck up already!

So you're saying the secret to selling a lot of games consoles is to have it do things that have nothing to do with it playing games.

Nintendo DS was here 150+ Million Times, your argument is invalid. And (just to twist the kinfe further) if this was such a clincher, the PS3 wouldn't be in third place this generation. Personally I applaud Nintendo for having the balls to not do what Microsoft, Sony, and Apple do, which is to release "all-in-one" devices with so many extra features that playing games (or in Apple's case, playing music) apparently becomes an afterthought. And it's worked very well for them so far (except when they were slow in adopting disc-based media)

One could make the argument the Wii doesn't offer much in the traditional sense of gaming to begin, but that's beside the point.
You're right, the first and foremost function of a console is always to entertain by means of videogames, and everything else is just extra. I'm just saying, the PS2's popularity was in no small part thank to it's double functions as both a console and a DVD-player, so comparing the popularity of a console devoid of those features to that of one that does have them isn't exactly a fair equation.

For the record, I'm a big Nintendo-fan myself, far more so than of Sony (I don't even own a PS3). All I'm saying is that there's a difference between "having the balls to do what no-one else will" and stubbornly refusing to accept an idea that everbody else adopted a 10 years ago.

I like Nintendo, I really do. It's just that this specific policy of theirs has always angered and bewildered me.

Meh, I'm on my second ps2 right now, but that is only because I destroyed my first one for refusing to play xenosaga episode 1. Turned out the problem was with the GAME and not the system.

But the real thing is that ps2 had such a great game library that everyone needed to own one. It would have been easy to NOT buy an xbox (just play all their exclusives on pc). And you really didn't miss anything by skipping the gamecube (even their first party titles were less than memorable). But not owning a ps2 was just plain silly.

You can't say that of the wii. In no cases has the wii version of a multi-platform release game been the best of the bunch. I really hope the whole 'motion control' idea fails for sony and microsoft, because that is nintendos retarded little stepchild. It was retarded when they introduced it as the power glove, and now that they have bred it with its sister, their child is still incapable of higher brain functions.

Anyways, there is no real reason to replace any of the gaming systems. Xbox360 and ps3 still have room for their games to match the hardware, and the wii prints money for putting out N64 quality games.

Is this "The mom-inator"? If so I don't trust she knows what the hell Nintendo thinks anyway...
And yeah comparing the Wii to the PS2 is a little silly because the PS2 was a console...through and through, a gaming device...the Wii, I dunno what it is, but it's like a horribly mutated cousin.

And I don't really like him :(

Bullshit. In two years new consoles will most likly be out and Nintedo will have to keep up. Also, the Wii isn't that great in the first place (motion controls were terrible last time I played a Wii), making a sucessor might not be a bad idea for them.

Two words...

Laptop Gun.

Dude, I had more fun in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark than any other multiplayer game to date.
I loved Goldeneye 64 but the PC took over for me by the time that Perfect Dark came out. I did like the laptop in PD zero and might try the xbox remake.

That seems about right to me also, I gave my Wii to my mother. I know I will be slightly kicking myself in the ass but, I would buy a black or red Wii in a second.

If Tales of Symphonia Wii was released outside of Japan, and did well, then there will be nothing stopping Tales of Graces. I see no reason why it would not be released. Though it may take a bit longer now that they have found bugs in the Japan version.

I'm no expert on optical drives but wouldn't making the wii at least a dvd player be possible through a firmware update anyway? Maybe thats just retarded and I know nothing, but I have always just thought. I mean in the future as we move forward with bluray and all that snazzy stuff I think possibly some people might appreciate still having a reliable dvd player.

Well that was my thought at first, but I heard somewhere that the developer for Graces is different from the developer of Symphonia. Am I mislead?

I have two, one is just weird, but I've barely ever heard of PS2's, or any of the older consoles failing, but more issues with the PS3 and a ton about 360's. Guess they don't make consoles like they used to.

Really? I certainly haven't. My sister had hers for a year or two before selling it, then I bought my used one and still have it.
See above. Also, I've had an XBox 360 for nearly 1.5 years, and it hasn't broken. That's hardly evidence for the astoundingly great build quality of the 360.

Lucky you, I had to buy my little bro 4 ps2 until he had enough of them breaking and we bought him a Gamecube. Why we gave Sony a second to fourth chance is beyond me.
Because the PS2 was *AWESOME*, the Gamecube was crap, and the XBox was markedly more expensive (and underwhelming).

Also, I didn't want to toss 100+ PS2 games.

Viva la PCSX2!

The Gamecube was amazing. We had more games on it than the PS2 which we sold.
