That's a good one the wii the very symbol of casual gaming wants to be loved by the hardcore(or not depends if halo players consider themselves hardcore). Also, what makes them think the halo fans would have a wii?
um...*slowly raises hand* I have Halo and a Wii, and I'm actually very pleased with both....

Halo gamers are hardcore? Not really. Halo 3 attractes what I call "meathead gamers" who play Halo 3, Gears of War, and CoD 4 and thats it. Playing those games does not automatically file you under that, but if you think one of those games is the best game ever, then it does.
No need for the Halo flaming, there are plenty of Halo fans, like myself, who play other stuff as well (I myself have quite a diverse range of tastes in games, from Halo being a personal favourite to liking GTA, Project Gotham Racing, L4D, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Dawn of War, Crash Bandicoot, and so on...). Halo flaming isn't something I expected to see in a News Room thread. If you don't like it then fine, that's fair enough provided you've played the games and know anything about them. Otherwise you're just jumping on the Hate Wagon, which is the one thing I hate more than serach button Nazis and trolls.

Anyway, on topic, as a Halo fan I can honestly say that I would never want to play it on the Wii. It just won't work. I'd be perfectly willing to get a Wii for the likes of Mario Kart, Wii Sports, anything of the puzzle and casual market games that actually look good. Maybe something like Resi. 5 and the Umbrella Chronicles too, and House of the Dead: Overkill. But Halo? It just won't work on the Wii. Besides, Microsoft own the rights to Halo, and they'd never let it happen...

EDIT: To answer the OP's question, why wouldn't Halo fans have a Wii? I play Halo and I'd love to get a Wii (damn student budget...). Plus, yes, Halo fans can be hardcore gamers, I know I am and I know several other hardcore gamers who also play Halo regularly. So yes, we are hardcore gamers.

That last paragraph was a little creepy. We only joke about Microsoft and Google wanting to take over the world, Nintendo seems to have it as their mission statement.

Hell, the very first thing I learned when studying PR was "Don't waste resources on publics who are adamantly against your message."

Wii wants the halo audience? they're welcome to them. cue the fanboy rant.

But anyway, when it was first released, the hardcore gamers were quite into the wii, with releases like zelda twilight princess and red steel making innovative use of the motion sensor, but over time nintendo shamelessly converted it, with every release, into a cacophony of fitness fads and poor music games clinging to the coattails of guitar hero. Way to go nintendo.

I'm just going to be somewhat more optimistic and say they can have some good "hardcore" games on their system. May I suggest remaking Half-Life? If the PS2 could have that much graphical improvement, then you could go even further with the Wii and use the controller for what it's good at: pointing. But don't try to use motion controls for the crowbar; it may sound cool, but you wouldn't be able to turn if you shook the Wii-mote to swing the crowbar.

I think you just topped Nintendo on making sweeping generalizations.

Kiutu has got a point. Alot of those people are absolute morons. NOT SAYING HALO 3 SUCKS! I'm just saying that the majority of it's audience are the 13 year old idiots who scream down their headsets. There are of course the Halo 3 players who are good-natured like the sort you see around here.

But there's no denying that most of their fanbase or 13 year old morons. But then again these idiots rake in copious amounts of dough for their respective titles so fair play, Ninty.

this all just makes me wonder: why, if the wii has the casual game market cornered, why does it insist on making hard-core games, such as madworld, the conduit, the grinder, and gladiator AD, among others? maybe someone else can answer this for me.

THANK you, Fenixhart. I played halo 1-3, gears 1-2, and killzone 2- but I also play ratchet and clank, the many sims games (Shuttup, they're addicting) Armored Cores (Various) and such- I don't think that makes me a 'meathead gamer.' I wouldn't go so far as to say that Gears is the best game ever across the board, but for co-op it's certainly the first I've found that really makes gameplay smooth.

And remember, most the games I like- including Halo, Gears, and Killzone- other games branded "meathead," I love for the singleplayer. It's just more fun than multi most the time.

BACK on topic. I think nintendo's gonna fail hard here. I'm completely disinclined to go for a wii- the graphics are toned down, the motion sensor holds little interest and the games are... well, weak. I don't want a bathroom scale that tells me to exercise more- I can get that free. I don't need another racing game that.. I can't play with anyone... cos I live alone...

And here I was thinking that SONY were the ones with crazy statements...

Nintendo, seriously, what self respecting gamer would ever use your Wii Fit Plus?? Stick with your casual fanbase and release more metroid and zelda games to please your own core fanbase.

At first I was like: :| "Wut?"

Then I was like: XD "LOL!"

Seriously, Xbox have their market and the Wii have theirs. They should not be trying to cross over, it will only result in loss of money.

Because Wii Fit totally sold on being a decent product and not celebrity endorsement from Oprah or shipping together with the console itself.

I was actually waiting for the whole Nintendo press conference to show something that would blow off the dust that accumulated on my Wii.

Looking really forward to the new Metroid game, but that won't happen very soon as jumping plumbers lost their appeal over the time on me.

Now they talk about a game that would convert "hardcore" gamers to the Wii.
It would be nice if they came up with something that gets me interested in the Wii again, in the first place.

Of course, they are allowed to try taking over the world afterwards...
