No Christmas Price Drop for Wii

Nintendo [http://www.nintendo.com]has confirmed that it will not be dropping Wii prices for the Christmas season, saying that the system will remain at the $249 mark for the foreseeable future.

Nintendo's Senior Vice President of Marketing George Harrison, who announced his retirement from the company earlier in the year, said, "We'll stay at $249 for the foreseeable future. We are still selling everything we can make."

The statement comes after moves by both Xbox 360 [http://www.sony.com]prices earlier in August.

Unlike its competitors, however, Nintendo has been under no real pressure to lower Wii prices for the holidays. Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime said the company would not have any real impact [<a href=] on Nintendo.

Why is this news? It's like saying Bill Gates isn't going to drop the price of Windows to compete with other operating systems. There's no reason at all to drop the price on the lowest priced, highest selling console in the race.

Why would they drop the price? They are still the cheapest and best selling system on the market. Not to mention the profit margin Nintendo is making per system is HUGE even at 249.99! They've been making a profit on the Wii since it was originally released, which is way better than 360 or PS3 were doing. Xbox was breaking even I think (been a while) per 360 sale, and PS3 was losing I think 75$ a system when it was FIRST released.. who knows how much they are losing now...
