Recently I beat the game bioshock again, at the end I was surprised to find that no credits roll at the end of the game. I was left feeling kinda deprived, usually the first thing I do after beating game is watch a minute or so of the credits, and then go call a friend to tell him the news. While I don't pay to much attention, I feel a sense of glory, and pride, at the end of bioshock I didn't get the chance to. What do you guys think?

I find that the only time I enjoy the credits are when the developers play with them a bit, like in Ratchet and Clank. I will say that the more important thing to me is the end sceno.

Hmm... thats odd... most games I know have credits every time you beat them.
And I agree with you on that feeling :)

The only end credits I found entertaining was the end credits for the first Kingdom Hearts game.

I've never encountered that one, but the creators must have had something in mind. Is it in options or extras? I've seen that in some games.

EDIT: My favorite end credits are from Halo 3: "We here at Bungie yadda yadda humbly thank you for letting us take over the world" or something like that.

I'd always found Valve's credits to be unique, seeing as it's not parted into sections and departments. It's just a list of names. Other than that, I generally fast-forward through them if I can, or go grab a soda while they're running.

I generally endure the credits hoping for some extra footage after them (or in the new PoP, the actual ending of the game...)

I watched the Serious Sam credits for obvious reasons (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kd4rHzYbLpg&feature=related).

Not many others are as.. interesting.

I love when they put effort into the credits. And I don't mean making them interactive like Smash Bros., or necessarily even with snapshots, although I do appreciate it. What I love is when they put effort into the music. Wind Waker, Metroid, Metroid Prime, Super Metroid (yeah, Metroid's good at it :p) all have fantastic credits songs. And Portal of course. When tied in with some snapshots of the world, as has been done in countless games, it makes for a satisfying experience.

Not really that surprising. The reason that movies have credits is in order to prove that an individual worked on the film, since most film careers are a sequence of very short-term jobs; film credits are there for resume building. The reason video games have credits is because early developers (who may have made entire games between one or two people) wanted recognition and later developers were just carrying on the tradition from film and previous video games. These days, a list of credits really serves no useful purpose other than to provide competitors with a handy list of who the most talented people to poach from your company are; it's not a surprise that Valve doesn't specify who does what, and games like Bioshock getting rid of credit sequences altogether seems pretty much like the natural course of events to me.

Yea, it's nice when they add something extra to the namelist. In World in Conflict they had photos of the staff doing various things and some sandbox screenshots showing weird stuff they tested the physics with. Was kind of interesting.

Having credits after the end of the campaign is kind of nice actually, gives you a few minutes to wind down. Though i've never actually read them.

I thought they did it because most people at Valve don't have one specific role to fulfill?

I've so far found Valve's credits on HL2 to be unique in more than that. They roll not in a sense of triumph, but more with a sense of emptiness, largely in silence except for a bit of noise from the end of the game continuing at the start. It fits nicely with the endings of the games, as none of them have had a happy conclusion (or any sense of conclusion almost)
I wonder if that will change with Episode 3.

Anyway, I just skip the credits normally after the first few seconds.

Other credits I like are the Guitar Hero III credits. They show the developers' pictures, but you can't easily watch them and play Through the Fire and the Flames at the same time.

I like credits with good music, or those that have "flash backs" of your quest through the game.

The Armored Core series and Phantasy Star Online (Episode I and II) are good examples of that in my opinion.

As for the OP, I don't think I've ever played a game where I wasn't forced to watch names scroll down my screen.
