Long live dubstep.

JesterRaiin is (seemingly) the only one in this thread that knows what Dubstep is. Everyone else is posting Brostep/Clubstep.
They're still sub-genres, and can be classified as dubstep still.

Why all the hatred? I really don't get it. I don't see what's wrong with people exploring different kinds of music. I've mainly been listening to rock/metal myself for the past 15 years, but, like all types of music, dubstep has good and bad moments. I personally quite enjoy Nit Grit and Flux Pavilion, dubstep is a stepping stone and their end result is some pretty damn fine electronic music. If you don't like it and you keep listening to it in videogames, you'll just have to deal with it. A soundtrack cannot please everyone.

Dubstep is fine when it works, but its only about 90% of the time that it doesn't, so it rarely works.

I don't like it, but it usually is the same song over all with each iteration.

Sorry, had to be linked.

Haven't seen any dubstep in any games so far, except for SR3. Was nice.
>.> ..... there is no words for the 'lame' that video possessed. if that's accurate of all of this 'dubstep' thing... it should be fought and killed like SOPA :p

How about this: Fucking no.

The world cares nothing for your opinion. If it wants to put dubstep in it's video games or retirement homes, it will. It can't be stopped.

If dubstep fits, as it sometimes does, so be it.

Nothing is going to stop because one group doesn't want people to have what they do not enjoy.

"Brostep", however, is all about Wobble Bass, and it's mostly thanks to Skrillex that this subgenre has become popular.
I don't like Skrillex too much, he uses vocals almost always and I personally prefer that kind of music when it's "instrumental". Still, he is a fucking amazing person and one of the most modest people in the industry. I mean, seriously, the guy announced his latest EP with a message on his facebook page saying "happy holidays just like I promised.... just like i always say, go pirate it if you don't have money..i just want you to have it." It's a miracle that no record label has hired a hitman to whack him yet.

What the shit were you actually trying to say? xD I read what you wrote and it actually made me laugh. I'd like to take everything you post out of context, then put it all on one page in a long incomprehensible string of ramblings.

This is one of my favourite bands at the moment, the video is class too.

Blah blah blah.

A lot of people like it... get over it and get on with your lives rather than trying to crusade against something that you don't like.

Guess what everyone who is super-anti-dubstep? Skrillex made more money last year than most of you will every make in your entire lives. I hate most pop and most modern music in general, but I respect the artists and their ability to make music that appeals to the masses.
First off, what is there to crusade against except for things you don't like?

Secondly, since when was money a measure of talent or artistic ability. For example, Rebecca Black made more money than many Indy bands out there. That doesn't in any way make her more talented. As far as making art that appeals to the masses, I don't know if that should really even be considered a good thing. The role of art in culture is to channel the artists expression into something that challenges society, strongly held beliefs, or at the very least makes a cultural statement. Those goals often run in the opposite direction of appealing to the masses. I can respect their prowess as businessmen, but not necessarily as artists.

Dubstep should not exist. Period.

There is no place for it in an intelligent civilisation. It is ear grinding, brain-grating NOISE. Hacks with no talent plagarise half decent music and then mutiliate it with their cat-scraped-along-the-road-by-an-18-wheeler soundboard, combined with... I'm genuinely not sure what it IS.

Dubstep should not exist. Period.
How can I be as mature as you?!

Even if he does look like a total dork...this is your messiah wubstep kiddies!

...Yeah... I'm not the one for looks, but he's a total joke. Shaved long hair, and fat rimmed glasses is not a good look at all in my personal opinion, and it boggles the mind how he presents himself like that in the musical spotlight.

Though, as they say, it's only the music that counts... am I right? Shame that I don't really like it that much.

That may be the crappiest youtube video I have ever seen.
Erm you must be living in some sheltered life where every youtube video you see is all the product of years of production by a tech company because even if it insulted Metal and rap fans to an extent it is pretty well done, I doubt you cam get too many videos with the same quality.

Point is, id like to keep dubstep out of atleast one of these things (preferably anime and gaming. I know there is no dubstep in anime yet but you never know)
I think that certain genres of music just don't lend themselves to fitting into games.

Dubstep is highly erratic music, so I can't see it fitting into games. It has a really inconsistent rhythm. As well, any music with lyrics has trouble fitting into a game. It can really only go into the intro music, and even then it really has to be an RPG, otherwise it'll feel out of place.

However, I don't think dubstep should NEVER be used in games. Deus Ex II used a song in a dance club that had lyrics and that was spot on. It was music you'd expect to hear at a club, and it worked perfectly. Dubstep I feel should be used similarly. It should be used where it works well, not because a focus group thinks that their target demographic likes dubstep.

A debate about dubstep on the Escapist. This is what we as a website have become. Oh lawdy, what an utter, utter, disgrace.

Dubstep is shit. I agree. The only game I've had to include dubstep in itself is Saints Row: The Third. Even then, I just change the radio station to something else. So, there's that.

How do i reply?

I'm tolerant of most genres of music. Things like Rap, Metal and D und B. Its just that Dubstep is like borderline between music and autotuned flatulence. If people are going to be adding dubstep into games, atleast provide alternatives aswell. Like i said b4, i play games to discover new songs and artists.

Why does it bother you so much? I hate Justin Bieber, but wouldn't go to Youtube asking his videos to be taken down simply because they don't suit my taste. You're like a vocal conservative, demanding students pray in schools or gays be stoned or whatever they're blathering on about now. Just grin and bear it, it doesn't matter. As long as it's applied tastefully and good songs are picked, it'll be the same anyway.

Thing is in many games, i play to discover new music like with Burnout 3 and SSX 3 (Those were amazing soundtracks) so if i were to find dubstep everywhere i go, it would be too much for me (im not sure what i would do)
Well, maybe try playing games to enjoy the games, and if you want to discover new music go to last.fm or Pandora, no?
That's rather small minded. Sounds to me like you're saying the music in games isn't part of the gaming experience.

Then maybe take this opportunity to discover dubstep that you can enjoy.
