So the release date of No Man's Sky has been pushed back to August. Because this is the internet, people reacted to the news calmly and rationa-oh who am I kidding? We all know this song and dance by now:

https://twitter.com/NoMansSky/status/736686755139719168

Because killing the devs would TOTALLY make the game come out sooner!

/s

At least Sean Murray and co. are taking it in stride.

It's horrible and stupid, yet fascinating, to see people so tightly strung that some are sending death threats to not only to Jason Schreier who originally reported the game's delay, but also to the game developer(s) as well. For a game nobody can be quite sure is actually any good from the people who have only previously developed the Joe Danger series - a couple of good games but nothing like No Man's Sky.

It's a whirlwind of stupidity.

This seems like the inevitable hype backlash when a game gets delayed as many times as this has. If you make big promises* about your game and build up a big hype train, it better deliver because hell hath no fury like a fanboy scorned.

* Not actual promises, but treated as such by the credulous.

Wait is there an actual link to said threats? Because, i can't actually believe that happened, and the cynic in me thinks it's a PR stunt. Yes I'm that guy

I imagine that these people sending them are the same people that brutally curse out and insult those that say the game doesn't look good.

Death threats? On the internet? Over a game delay?

My word I am SHOCKED and chagrined to find that there is GAMBLING in this establishment!

(In other words, no, I am NOT surprised in the slightest. In fact if there were no threats at all, I'd actually be shocked. This is the internet, folks. At least the dev is taking it in stride in a funny way :p)

Yep, death threats to the guy who leaked the delay, death threats to the devs after they confirm the delay, must be Sunday. Normal as dew on the grass in the morning.

On an unrelated note, why does gaming seem to have a poor reputation? Can't figure that one out at all.

I can't speak to the threats toward Sean Murray and the dev team, but here's a link to one of the Twitter threats at Schreier:
https://twitter.com/jasonschreier/status/736151267215560705
The account that Tweeted it is not only still active...
https://twitter.com/jasonschreier/status/736358929710612480
...but he's still going after Schreier -- as if it's Schreier's/Kotaku's fault the game was delayed
https://twitter.com/BeachClasherMDR/status/736151737732636673

Also, just as an aside, the reactions from a lot of fans on the NMS subreddit, while not involving threats in any way, is nevertheless astonishing. Seriously, these threads/comments are not normal behavior:
https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/4l6ort/nms_is_not_delayed/
https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/4laqbk/dear_jason_schrier/
https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/4ld80u/a_defense_of_kotaku/
https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/4ldbkm/august_9_release_date_confirmed_by_sony/

I honestly don't know how many stories Schreier needs to break before people stop with this shit. He's arguably the best reporter in the games business, and whenever he breaks a story people don't like, it's the same crap ("Clickbait! Rumors! Kotaku is a rag! Kotaku's been black listed! Schreier is hurting game companies!") from the same type of folks who seek to lecture about what is and isn't news, and what is and isn't proper journalism, when they don't have the first f%#@ing clue about either.

What, the murder? It'll be a little late to take a stance against shitty behaviour then, don't you think?

Pfff they can't be credible threats.

The devs haven't even appeared on TV or started a patreon.

So are the death threats, but people don't call out it for being too late.

I personally think it is about the message, not the timing. Those gutless internet death threats made death threats mean jack all.

Because gaming is the only media with their share of assholes, right?

I know death threats are sadly all too common over the internet, but over a month and a half game delay? Really?

Not suprising seeing how people are bitchy about anything these days.

Also I liked their comment (the Home Alone gag).

Humour them. Maybe even invite them around for a nice cuppa tea and a cookie so they can resolve their differences and explain things. Failing that, recommend councelling to the ones who feel that hurt by a game delay, as they evidently have some unrelated issues to acknowledge.

I do not support death threats, but this is the interwebs. They're kinda' like mold. They just happen. Obama could tweet tomorrow that its Monday and he likes pie, and he'd get thousands of death threats from the Tuesday and cookie crowd.

it's only been delayed twice though to my knowledge, once when it slipped from a planned 2015 release to a 2016 one, and this one

on the topic of death threats, I honestly can't muster the energy to be surprised or angry that people are sending them, it's just that commonplace these days. The internet was a mistake
