horray movie tie in games have always been a cancer(ya that was harsh but really was it?)
now we can start realocating that effort to games that dont have to rely on the strict guidelines of something form any entirely different form of media

this includes starwars games

Quick, someone alert Hideo Kojima and Square Enix!

Yeah - why is it that Mirror's Edge doesn't get a sequel when something like Dead Space does?
Dead Space had better reception and made more money.
Yay Capitalism!
Blame the players, not the form of economy. Not only would Mirror's Edge be received the same by socialism or communism, it might not even have been made.

They tried. They failed. Now they will use their experience to make better games. Hopefully.
Yeah, true. Fuck people then.

Yea, Dead Space was pretty cool. I bought that and I'll probably pick up Mirror's Edge at some point too. I played the demo, it wasn't too bad actually.

I figure this is a fantastic move by EA. Original, creative content trumps movie games.

As Activision is digging itself deeper, EA is coming up for air.
Interesting mixed metaphor there. I love it!

I'm with you, a bit more polished a Mirror's Edge would have been awesome, also if they didn't force you into gunplay in the last few missions.
Agreed - I'd like to see an RTS (city) vs FPS (runners) in a sort of zombie master type game. Also, I love your avatar.
With you on that front, that would be great!

You mean no more stupid ass movie games hogging the shelf at Gamestop and a Mirror's Edge sequel?

...I don't even care about Dead Space, but I may buy it and even the sequel just to support what EA is doing. I'm happy.

Mirrors Edge 2 please. I loved that game to pieces. I also defend it more then I've ever defended any other game. Its worth it.

Technically it doesn't count as a movie tie-in but for three whole years me and my friends spent every weekend playing 007 Nightfire.

List of movie tie-ins that I most certainly enjoyed

Scott Pilgrim Vs the World - Ubisoft
Spiderman 1 & 2 - Activision
Every disney movie-related game made by Capcom
Batman - Sunsoft
Every Terminator and Aliens arcade game ever made

Feel free to add to the list

Some games based on movies are good. Godfather, Scarface, Riddick, Punisher. Although all of these games are made a long time after the original movie or they are simply BASED on the movie. These games had very original gameplay elements despite their movie origins.

Yeah it's strange to agree with EA but it's true. Really, gone are the days where you could slap a famous label in a box and wait for the money to come in. Nowadays even the most half-assed games cost too much to make up for their loss.

I was under the impression that EA was waiting for the 'Edge' troll Tim Langdell to die horribly in the eternal fires of their legal department. Now that he's dead (figuratively speaking) maybe they're working on it?

EA learns not to farm movie game and Bobby Kotick learns what is PR.
Farmvilla is no long the most used app on Facebook.

Is the brighter day of gaming coming?
I wouldn't hold your breath. This is EA we're talking about, after all.

You better watch yourself, EA.

If you're not careful, you might end up being a respectable business.

SNAP!

I liked the Scott Pilgrim game, and the old SNES Star Wars games were good too. Other than that, this announcement couldn't have come soon enough.
