No such thing as a Bad game?

I had an argument with a friend of mine today about a bad game he likes and he told me a very intrestin philosophy of his. he said "That if there is just 1 person who likes a game its not bad" at first i though it was Stupid but when i though about it it kinda makes since what do Yal think.

Way to miss the point, guys. Me, I've never played Superman 64, so I can't comment on it being a bad game. In fact, if everyone (most of whom haven't played it either) didn't keep bitching about the game, I wouldn't know about it, therefore it would, to me, not exist.

This guy is talking about subjective reality, which is cool, although I doubt The Escapist will have much truck with it. In b4 Too Human! Because Yahtzee said so.

If someone finds that a particular game is not fun to play, it can be considered bad by them. It may be disliked by many other people, who will also call it bad. Quality of a game is largley based on opinion-If a game has a terrible camera but some good action, one person may consider the camera faults too bad to be made up for by good action, while another person would say the opposite.


What I'm saying is I agree with your friend, but not in the same way-to say that one person liking a game negates every other persons opinion on the matter is unbelievably vacuous.


P.S When I was a kid, I rented Superman 64-and I liked it. When I played it again after discovering its supposed legendary badness via the internet, I played it again-and I didn't think it was as terrible as everyone made it out to be. Yes, it is definitely not good, but it at least works-Big Rigs is way more broken and doesn't get anywhere near the level of attention Superman does

Well, if we go by this reasoning, then there are no good games either. Because even with Shadow Of The Collossus, there is at least one guy who thinks it's bad.

So, yeah, basically, "good" and "bad" are all in the eyes of the beholder. Modern Warfare 2 maybe a horrible offensive unfinished mess for most of you, and, thus, "bad", but for me, it's the best five hours in my gaming life, thus, "good".
