Nostalgic cartoons you can't stand

So yeah, we all had those cartoons we watched growing up that we hated. But for whatever reason, we watched them anyways.

Personally, I've never been a fan of the Flintstones. At all. The only episodes that I find even slightly watchable are ones featuring the Great Gazoo.

Also, Alvin and the Chipmunks. Again, never been a fan, and I just find the show obnoxiously boring.

And lastly, Doug. Do I really need to go into detail here?

Frankly, I'd watch Captain Planet over these shows any day of the week. At least Captain Planet had magic power rings and supervillains.

I used to watch Scooby-doo as a kid a LOT and now I can't see why. I NEVER like it. I don't remember laughing or finding any of it entertaining at all. What the hell?

I also didn't like the bizarre cartoons that for some reason have huge fanbases like Ren and Stimpy or Cow and Chicken. I find them both kind of stupid.

Tom and Jerry.

Never laughed at it, not once. And I watched a lot of episodes when I was bored out of my mind as a kid.

I hate Scooby Doo as well. Every part of it is complete crap and it fails to entertain in every single way. Can't see how that show got the status it has. It's arse. Don't really like The Flintstones either but I don't hate it. It's just "meh".

Can't really think of any others that I outright hate. Most of the crappy cartoons I've seen are more modern ones. Cartoons made with no care on computers that can be put together by anyone and with crappy writing which is good for nothing except shutting little ADHD kids up for half an hour. In recent years shows like that seem to have been on the decline, thankfully.

Can't stand Scooby Doo, Alvin & The Chipmunks, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, or any of those other goddamn Hanna-Barbara cartoon sitcoms. Ironically, I loved every second of Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, possibly because it was willing to humiliate all the characters I learned to hate with just enough nostalgia to acknowledge that those characters were indeed part of my childhood, if only the bored part that wasn't always on the Nintendo.

I also have a thing with Tom and Jerry. I can't stand the Hanna-Barbara Tom and Jerry, but I love the ones done by Chuck Jones. It's like HB didn't figure out humor until sometime in the 90's.

Cow and Chicken, Ed Edd and Eddy and Courage the cowardly dog Im not nostalgic for but I did watch.
I see them now and they are ugliest dumbest pieces of shit and I feel like I wasted my time on them

I believe courage started out as a short with him versus a space duck and thats how it shouldve stayed.

Well most of the stuff that has been mentioned, Ren & Stimpy, Ed, Edd & Eddy, Cow & Chicken, Scooby Doo [small](Though surprisingly the new Scooby Doo show it's really enjoyable I watched it the other day and it's really fun)[/small], Alvin & the chipmunks, etc.
As for adding some myself well it's not really that old but Fairly Odd Parents, easily my most hated show ever, never liked Rocco's Modern Life either, I also never liked Rugrats or Real Monsters, in fact if it was on Nickelodeon chances are that I don't like it, I never liked Dragon Ball either, but since my brother's loved it I saw a lot of it, also I always found the Woody Woodpecker show boring.
[sub]Now that I see this I think I just hate most cartoons...[/sub]

Ren and Stimpy is my favorite cartoon show :C

I'm not saying people shouldn't hate it, im just surprised that people do.......I guess I have a higher weird-tolerance than most people I guess. Its a lot better than Ed,Edd and Eddy and Cow and Chicken though. Edx3 is very dry, whereas Cow and Chicken are too vulgar. I think Ren and Stimpy is the happy medium of the 2. Also Edx3 and C&C had terrible art compared to Ren and Stimpy. It was a lot higher quality.

I think my problem with older cartoons is the heavy reliance of physical humor (on the hanna-barbara/looney toons sides of things) or the heavy reliance on dry serious humor (ala Nicktoons). If you think about it, none of those shows are really funny. I guess physical humor is good when your a kid, but nothing that Nicktoons aired seemed to have any humor in it whatsoever. Did Hey Arnold or Rugrats have any jokes at all? The shows were pointlessly depressing for the most part.

Shows like Chowder, Flapjack, and Adventure Time are the exact opposites. Lots of jokes, puns, crazy off-the-wall humor and characters and AESTHETICS (something most shows lack). Hell, despite me not finding Regular Show funny I can see the appeal. I think for the most part shows have gotten better. And none of these shows have to rely on fart jokes, physical humor or racist/stereotypical remarks.

Wow this is a longer post than I expected. I just didn't want another masturbatory "I hate this show that everyone liked because it makes me feel cooler than everyone" post you see on these kinds of things. Like the "which popular game do you hate" threads that we seem to have once a week.

Most pre-80s/90s toons I can't stand.

Even many 80s toons are hard to watch unless they're anime.

fuck scooby do....I hate it so much

probably not the same thing but there was this movie called Robots (2005) (with robin williams in it) I was 13 at the time but I hated it because nothing in it seemed to make sense other than "lets do this because it looks wacky/cool"

when you create a fictional world it has to have some kind of logic/consistancy...although I couldnt explain it at the time that was what bugged me

hey, hey arnold was awsome! in fact looking back I think it because it tackled more serious themes...although arnold could get a little "good enough to rival jesus" at times

also Helga's phsychopathic obession with him was hilarious

Cat Dog (a later show) I never really liked due to the silly "dog wins, cat loses" every episode even though cat was more intelligent and dog was a dumb fuck who I guess we were supoed to like because aparently being a dumb fuck somhow makes you "good" and intelligence only makes you an asshole

Yea it wasn't consistently funny, like most old Nicktoons, is the point I'm trying to make. I'm not saying that ALL cartoons should be funny (its just a medium anyways) but as a kid, I didn't want to watch shows with such serious tones and lack of humor. And I don't find it all that compelling nowadays that I'm older either. I think its just a weird product of the 90s.......

Goddam 90s man.......weird times.....

Oh there are plenty of cartoons I didn't like during my childhood and still don't like today.

SpongeBob and Rugrats being the least enjoyable of the bunch.

Ren and Stimpy. Points for going outside the mold, but never really meshed with me.

Just about anything from Hanna Barbara. Flintstones, jetsons, yogi bear, etc. To hell with all of it.

To be honest, a lot of Cartoon Network's older shows, i.e. Dexter's Lab, Johney Bravo, Cow and Chicken, Ed Edd and Eddy, ect. don't really appeal to me as much as they did back then. Of course, being a kid who preferred Nickelodeon didn't really help with that either.

I sort of had mixed feelings on CatDog. The show was okay, but I never really liked the idea of a conjoined cat and dog being beaten and picked on just because they're different.

Also Rancid Rabbit:

Fuck that asshole. Fuck him and his dozens of clones occupying (almost) all of Nearburg's businesses.

Generation 1 Transformers. I hate the show for not making a lot of sense. It was poorly written mash up of three Japanese Animated shows: The Autobots were from a show called Diaclone and they were the villains. Megatron was the hero of his show, Micromen, so were Sound Wave and other ones that turned into appliance. The jets were veritech fighters from Macross, something Hasbro acknowledge by settling out of court with Bandai. That is the reason why Megaton and Prime fought the first time in the 88 animated movie.

And nothing of what people remember from Transformers came from the G1 cartoon. It was patched together piecemeal from multiple sources. Mostly the Transformers comic, but also Beast Wars and Beast Machines. It was not until the much lauded Cybertron trilogy that we saw the modern forms of the characters. They did not exist in earlier iterations.
