I do find it awesome hes treating his employees so well and not using them to make games, wringing them for all their worth and then tossing them out like an old sponge once they're done. But yeah you don't need to announce such a thing, just sounds like an attention grab, a douchey but very nice attention grab though. I don't know notch though, I love minecraft and I like that those who are still working on it get what they deserve.

Can we crown him a pixelated philanthropic God yet?

Because I would totally pray to that. You know. In the manner one would pray to a pixelated God--by playing the game he made for us. Then playing the game that he and Jack BlackTim Schafer might possibly be working on.

Of course, we'll also need to ascend Jeb, so that things actually get done...

That would have been more cool if he hadn't recently been a massive fucking dick about Psychonauts 2. "Sure I'll give you money. Oh wait, I was just joking, haha."

Money should have gone towards Psychonauts 2 development. Or towards measures to stop Notch from ever speaking on the internet again so nobody else has to suffer his constant bullshit.

Right on Notch.

If you resided in N.America the business community as well as Fox News would vilify you as some sort of Socialist Radical bent on undermining the integrity of our job-creating overlords. I can just imagine the hammer and PICKAXE graphic that Fox would come up with...
no wait PICKAXE and sickle would look better.

EA :"We creat thousands of jobs each year by opening up new positions previously held by other employees"

Notch's move isn't socialist in the slightest - it's smart business practice. Share the profits with the employees. Huge profits divided by little employees equals huge Bonus.
They worked hard for the profit, so they should be entitled to reap the rewards.

Btw, when did Notch brag about this ? I only saw one tweet from him saying that he did it. Is that bragging now ?

I KNOW, it isn't really socialist policy, however I could eaily see the various right-wing and market fundamentalist factions of N.America viewing such practice of "sharing the wealth" (if only within the company) as a threat to their beliefs. These are the people who called Warren FUCKING Buffett, one of the world's most succesful capitalists, a socialist-marxist after he called for a modest tax hike on the ulra rich. It's a bit different of a situation as taxation is government policy versus the internal practices of a gaming enterprise, but you see the point I'm trying to make. Such interests don't like a precedent being set in which workers are getting a sizable chunk of a capitalist's profit. Evil things like co-ops and nordic model taxation could arise if the witchhunters aren't vigilant...

Stop trolling.
Notch did not fund spychonauts 2 because double fine started with their kickstarter and used that to fund their game a point and click.
Notch cant give them money if double fine does not accept it.

I dind't want to contradict your statement, just wanted point out that I felt it was a just and proper business decision.
Yes, Fox news and other media outlets are kinda distorting the meaning of concepts like socialism etc. to suit ther needs to borderline propaganda methods.

I absolutly LOVED buffets idea of motivating politicans to do their jobs by not making them eligable for reelection if the budgetary deficit rose over a certain margin. It certainly is a pipedream and utterly impractical due to the nature of bipartisan trench warfare, but the theory of tying the future of their jobs to the actual results instead of how much money they can waste on propaganda and slander (aka. election marketing) gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Afaik notch said he would like to fund a psychonauts sequel - he also took part in the kickstarter for the double fine point& click adventure, so those should be two seperate projects he gave support to.

Okay, I get it. He's a saint/god among lowly men. I would be lucky to not only work with him and his company, but to get a glimpse of his awesome magnificence. He shines brighter than the brightest star in the sky. Ballads and poems will be penned in his name, glorifying his attributes and additions to our wonderful world.

Can we get more info on Psychonauts 2 please? I'll make a shrine just for him next to my Bioware one of that gets off the ground.

If you wanna crown a pixelated philantropic God, you really should look up how much money Bill Gates have donated to charity in his life-time (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1027878/Bill-Gates-pledges-58-billion-fortune-charity--children.html), and that's just the money he's pledged when he dies, it isn't even counting the money he gives every year.

What I am trying to say is that it almost makes up for Vista.

He didn't. Some people just like to interpret his openness, spontaneity and joking around on Twitter as bragging.

Notch and Schafer are getting together to discuss the Psychonauts 2 thing in person at GDC this week.

Notch didn't expect the game to cost $13M+, as Schafer has suggested, so it's not exactly an investment you can make without some considerable planning and discussion between the two parties. (Because it is a high-risk investment, and not some sort of a donation.)

Attention whoring would be a better word, right?

Notch isn't used to spending money on game development so it doesn't come off as a surprise that he underestimated the development costs.

Other Twitter users don't get paid for (not) doing stuff
