Haven't been interested in Minecraft for a couple months now - didn't feel like there was any progress to make. Exploration's one of the things I like most, but running around through chunks just doesn't feel satisfying on its own. Being able to track it, map out the world as I go? Definitely worth at least a trial run.

Sounds awkward as hell as map systems go, but then, that's Minecraft in a nutshell, isn't it.

The compass was already useless unless you put your base at spawn.

Day 7: Built a wall. Creepers blew it up. Damn creepers...

Day 13: found a wolf, was going to train it, creeper ruined it.


Day 42: Finally have my vengeance, created a creeper powered creeper cannon, in unrelated news, first creeper was shot into space today.


OT: WOOO! now I can finally actually explore around the minecraft world without fear of getting lost!


or, having to save and quit to open and update minecraft cartographer.

Day 112: The creeper I shot into space landed on me.

Can you mount the maps on the wall and use them as decoration? because i really want to be able to do that, it'd make scene, if you do a lot of exploring then you could build map stations and whenever you come to one it'd be easier to just walk in and look at the wall rather than dig around in a chest.

Or craft a few small maps out of paper and call it a day. If you want to explore it can be a pain to build land marks every few hundred meters. Sure there are already plenty of solutions to many of the problems we have. Keep falling while building sky scrapers? Be more careful. Or now you can hold shift to not fall off (most of the time). Hell, i used to use a bucket of water like a rope, swimming in it while building up high. Sure it's a challenging technique, but you have a lifeline if you fall.

That's not completely obsolete though, you can still swim in the stream to build down from a high place. But that doesn't mean that i don't want to be able to craft a harness with some leather and combine that with a fishing pole, then mount that to the ground and use that as a safety rope. (maybe use scroll or something to give more or less rope so you can adjust your altitude)

maybe, but i get the feeling it is really expensive like some redstone surrounded by paper which means you will need 24 reeds. Thats 3 bookshelves

its not hard to find your house again . just leave distinguishing features behind you, like bridges in between islands, or a few torches on mountains and cliffs.

Definitely would be useful if you can use them to view your current location while lost somewhere underground or building tunnels for a set area, but can't keep your barings topside.

lol use a compass. and if your house or other things arent visible from your original spawn, build an above ground bridge, or mine cart track.

a compass i even good for underground exploring, i got stuck, aimed towards my spawn, and dug an upward staircase. found my house in no time.
