Notch Tweets Rage Over Minecraft Party Sexual Assault

A "very upset" Notch says an incident of sexual assault at the PAX Prime Minecraft party is under investigation.

The Minecraft Party that was part of the festivities at PAX Prime this past weekend suffered an ugly black eye after an attendee named Ky revealed on her blog that she'd suffered a sexual assault during the event. While sitting alone in the VIP section, she was approached by another attendee who began to chat her up. She made small talk, and as the conversation slowly grew bizarre and wildly inappropriate, she let it continue, acknowledging that "maybe I was too drunk or maybe I still try too hard to be 'one of the guys' to realize it was quickly going into creeper territory."

But then everything went wrong. "At some point he raised a concern about being Asian and women not wanting him cause of some stereotypical view of penis size, and I was like 'most women will agree size doesn't matter' and went back to my phone," she wrote. "Then he grabbed my free wrist and put it on his crotch and asked 'Is this big enough?'"

"That would have been bad enough, but he had also pulled his dick out through the zipper of his pants," she continued. "I had no idea what to do but say 'You can't do that!' and NOPE'D the fuck on out of there to find my friends."

She was able to hook up with her friends before things went any further, but it took awhile for the shock to wear off and the magnitude of the situation to sink in. Her friends tried to find the offender and at some point told security about it, which she said resulted in a "'What do you expect me to do?' response," but he was able to slip away without being identified or caught. "And I tried to dance and drink it off more," she continued, "but as soon as the party ended I bolted for the door to find a cab, trying to hold tears back."

"People tell me I should've called the cops or screamed or made a huge scene, but I didn't want that type of attention and the reaction of the security guard made me feel like cops would be even more of a waste," she wrote. "I actually even deleted a lot of the tweets I posted, because I felt ashamed and embarrassed that this happened to me. I didn't want to ruin the party/PAX for other people. I don't want people to pity me."

Unsurprisingly, the incident didn't escape the attention of Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson, who expressed his feelings with a single, pointed tweet. "Some asshole did something totally unacceptable at my party, and a security guard shrugged it off," he wrote. "Very upset. It's being dug into."

Well, if she was trying to be "one of the guys" the proper response to that question wouldn't been "No, mine is bigger.".

To quote myself when I first heard about this: you'd think that "don't pull your dick out" was not a lesson that needed to be taught.

If some guy makes you touch his penis, FUCKING PANIC. There is almost no better time for it. Not judging her or anything, but still nobody NEEDS to play minecraft.

Also, good on ya Notch, good on ya.

Holy shit, my sides.
Seriously? Your response to sexual assault is "that's hilarious"?

I think I'm going to instead believe that you just got back from boxing, and quoted that by accident.

Why do I bother entering sexual assault threads when I know I'm going to be greeted with classy gentlemen such as this guy?

You're responding to the guy with a stereotypical blackface profile picture. Do you really think he's taking the story seriously?

As for me, that part of the story is pretty damn funny, though the conclusion is, unfortunately, not so funny.

I do feel as though there's a bit of a double-standard, here, though. If a drunk woman grabbed a guy's hand and shoved it into her crotch or boobs, he'd get the same response from the security guard but would almost certainly not get a news story or support from Notch himself, even if he was just as hurt.

EDIT: MY SAYING THERE IS A DOUBLE-STANDARD IS NOT BELITTLING WHAT HAPPENED TO HER. What happened to her, if she's telling the truth, sucks hard and was illegal and should not have happened. I felt this went without saying, but apparently not.

oh jeez, you are getting bombarded already..

I will admit, it sounds like a horrible C grade porn line, *cues porn music in the background before saying that line classy line* and I did laugh at the line itself, not the fact that it happened to her.

I am sure people have laughed at things all the time they weren't proud of, doesn't mean that I don't find the act any more horrible..my brain just has a fucked up sense of humor is all, nothing we could have done to prevent that from happening.

OT: good on notch, and definitely a shitty situation overall...creeper dude was creeping and feel bad for the girl, seems she wasn't trying to blow it out of proportion but she definitely should've done something, fuck that guard for blowing it off. Should've tossed that dudes shit right out onto the pavement.

I am getting more and more fed up with the Escapist community with every post about sexual assault getting more jokes than anger in response. I sincerely hope the guy responsible gets caught and punished to the full extent of the law, and the security company issues a public apology immediately.

.................... *goes on for eternity like that*...

Why wouldn't you go get help? Why would that effect you so badly? Why didn't the security guard do SOMETHING (even if it was to offer solace)? Why wasn't there a better investigation where you could get a sketch of the dude or security photage? just WHY?!

To be honest, a part of this sounds fishy to me. Almost like the girl is fabricating the whole thing. BUT I ONLY SAY THAT BECAUSE... well... Who just walks away after a creepy dude puts his dick on you? NO NO, who let's themselves be in that situation?

I'm sure that there's a bunch of people who could jump all over me for what I just said. But honestly? It's really a whole lot less about what I just said, and a whole lot more of "WHY?!" This whole thing's just bizarre.
She tried to get help. The security guard didn't do anything. She then got help from her friends to help her through it. Sexual assault isn't something you just walk off, it's a pretty traumatizing experience. The security guard didn't do anything because... I don't know actually. He's a security guard, he should have found the guy and evicted him immediately.

And she didn't make a scene probably because the reaction would be like yours. People would assume she made it up for attention or something.

Disgusting situation all around (this thread included). Also, as someone who works in the security industry, I find the reported actions of the guard on site extra sickening. It's garbage like this that makes the entire industry look bad.

Actually it's a pretty easy scenario to see play out. It goes as follows:

1. The guy says his initial line after talking to her for a bit.

2. She looks at him funny says, "Yeah... no" walks away and pulls out her phone to text someone or check something on the Internet, but above all to indicate to said guy that the conversation is OVER.

3. He sees this as a challenge, walks over with his dick pulled out while she is looking at the phone not him.

4. He grabs her free hand and pulls it down and asked, "Is this big enough?"

5. She pulls her hand away. Figures out what she touched and walks the hell away with a thousand things going through her brain.

6. After clearing the room and collecting herself for a minute she goes to see a security guard, who blows her off.

As for why the guy would do it? He was drunk and wanted to show what a man he was. So yep, it strikes me as a very believable story and something that I hope gets addressed better at PAX in the future because this sort of behavior has no place in gamer culture.

Agreed on all counts. Sadly the stupid fuck may never be found, but at least the security company should treat its employees properly. What do you expect me to do... A hideous crime has been commited, buddy how about you call the fucking police as is our species' custom?

Major kudos to Ky for daring to bring it up; if everyone did, we would no longer be able to ignore this problem. (Also for making a horrible "creeper" pun in the middle of her sexual assault story. I think Notch mentioning he'll "dig in" was unintentional.)

Speaking of things the Escapist does wrong, nice job writing the headline in such a way that it gives more weight to 140 characters of the guy who hired women to flirt with attendants at the party than to a sexual assault victim's retelling of her story.
