I hope the people aiming to protect us have access to our data.
Why would i be concerned if someone was watching me type, all they are going to see is me chiming in on random debates, talking about video games and yelling at people to play games with me, there are millions like me typing and sharing meaningless natter over the internet, if having cyber James Bond filter through the nonsense to find and stop someone from killing people then do it.

Because privacy is an inalienable right of every human being (or comparable sentient life form). Everyone has the right to go about their business and personal life without other citizens, the government, criminals or anyone else knowing anything about it.

Perfectly said! Which explains why the NSA is so antsy about having it's data out there. It's done a lot wrong and it knows it and some interrogating under hot lights is in order.

I just frigging give up on the US goverment. The first time it went back on everything it said it stood for, it was scary. Then it anger-inducing. Then it was annoying. Then it was kinda funny just how far away they were from everything they said they represented. Now I just don't even care anymore. And when people stop caring, they can pull anything they like.

Honestly I'm not mad at what Snowden did, I'm mad he ran from the country like a coward. If he truly believed he was doing it for the good of our country like he claims he shouldn't have ran to China. I honestly can't respect a guy who sits there acting like he is trying to be a hero yet runs like a coward, if your going to stand up for what you feel is right you gotta face any bad thing that comes your way.

I'm not surprised he ran to be honest, if he stayed he'd be charged and locked up in no time at all... At least this way he has a few weeks/months where he can fight against being extradited to drag it out.

From what I've read in the news of other cases it's a pretty common tactic to hide in another country, Plus there's the fact that basically any Internet related crime anywhere in the world seems to mean the US will try and extradite you and charge you for $$$millions or lock you up for 30 years. There was one website (TV shack I think) that ended in dotcom, so they claimed that was enough to extradite him to the US.

I wonder how many protesters had any power in their message when they protest and go "OH SHIT THE COPS RUN".

I'm not sure if you're aware whose side the media is on in the United States at the moment, but he did this from another country, to another country's media first, so the story would actually get out. Otherwise, it's likely he'd have been grabbed up by the govt and NDAA'd to Gitmo before this even became news, between the media tending to not carry stories against the current administration (whose press corp is completely filled with people literally related to higher-ups in national media companies) and the fact that the news organizations that DO actual investigative journalism are being spied on by the DoJ for the administration.

If you want to get the word out about something going on with this administration in the United States, you do it from outside of the United States, period.
