Oculus Rift Invites You To Game Jam With $50,000 At Stake

October's IndieCade Festival should be a blast.

Oculus VR, makers of the virtual reality headset, have a competition for you. Think you can create an innovative VR game? Well, participate in its IndieCade Jam, and put something together using the Oculus Rift and its SDK software, to be playable with keyboard and mouse or XInput-compatible gamepad, like the Xbox controller. Final builds are to be in on or before August 25th, and the winners will be announced September 19th for the IndieCade Festival in early October, where the grand prize winners - of which there will be two, one from this open call, and one from a selected developers group - get a free invite to show off their creations.

Not that a prime spot at IndieCade is the only prize on offer. The grand prize winners get $10,000 each and Oculus will promote their games through social media. The second and third prize winners also get cash prizes - $5,000 and $3,000 respectively - plus the opportunity to show off at IndieCade, though unlike the grand prize folks they'll have to pay for their food and lodging. Even the finalists get $500 each, and everyone gets their games promoted by Oculus via social media. Don't have access to an Oculus? There are ways around that. Oculus VR has established two Playtest Hubs, one in LA, the other in New York City, where interested developers can go for a hands-on with the technology.
