I've recently started back up on reading manga and have returned to the Assassination Classroom series after falling off of it due to financial reasons. So while I've been reading it I remembered how I got an odd life lesson out of the series with this phrase.

"I don't have to fight him, I just need to kill him."

Now this sounds wrong at first but let me explain. This phrase really made me remember what the difference between goals and means are and that it's important to remember to not put the cart before the horse. It was especially eye opening for me since I was really big into League of Legends at the time and it, again, helped me remember that the goal of the game (Destroy the enemy nexus) was more important than fishing another item or getting some more Gold.

So what are some weird places you've gotten a life lesson from?

Edit: Consequently, that phrase also made me think about things like how dangerous fighting really is. We like to see a good fight in a movie or anime and quick efficient fights tend to be boring but in real life before modern medicine, even winning a fight could be a loss even if you didn't sustain fatal injuries.

A broken arm isn't technically a mortal wound but can just as easily lead to a death anyway if it prevents the person from being able to do what it takes to live. We've forgotten just how risky so many things we do are because we have the buffer of civilization and its important to remember those things.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
"So?" That was a word said by a friend of mine in elementary school after I told him about a group of people protesting Barney the dinosaur because it promoted love between an adult and children or something stupid. Back then Barney was the enemy, something for little kids so big kids didn't want anything to do with it and hated it since it was little kid stuff. I think though my friend just didn't care about it, but for me that single word made me contemplate the meaning of the enemy of my enemy, so to speak. And really since then I've been extremely wary of joining with someone just because they happen to not like the same things I don't like. It doesn't matter if two groups don't like something, what matters is why they don't like it.

For me it's definitely scale model building on YouTube, but really I only watch one channel for that: Plasmo.

The level of patience, concentration and creativity he exudes, in addition to finding a way to record himself making models, fills me with determination to do other things.

In one video he's making a scale motorcycle but isn't happy with the molded plastic chain, so he assembles a tiny scale chain from an aftermarket kit and painstakingly puts it together with overlapping linkages. It's amazing to me how he can achieve such difficult things and then go way beyond what I would consider acceptable or even possible.

I can appreciate his videos as being done in the pursuit of realism and, in effect, truth.

So you would say that they taught you the sheer level of craft and dedication one can aspire to and attain?

Absolutely. But not just that. His videos inspire me to want excellence with everything I do.

Believe it or not I was constantly thinking of his videos when I was applying new silicone caulk to my bathtub. No, seriously. It was super frustrating because pure silicone is a huge mess to work with. But I was pretty happy with the result.

Lol, makes a thread about life lessons and then talks about how a line in a manga helped with playing a video game 😂

Would have been great if you had an example of how it applied to actual life rather than a video game.

?

But I did. It helped me realize the importance of staying on track with your goal and not with the means to get to that goal. Because of that I try to think outside my box of normal thinking of how to solve problems. The game example was just that, an example.

Still would have been nice to have an example of how it applied to a practical situation in one's actual life.

every now and then, some utterly terrible shallow film has a line in it that realigns a tiny part of the perception. also ketamine is something that, on occasion, caused intense periods of self-reflection in a way that is completely divorced from the everyday mind conditioned to survive with itself. requires being alone though. there are many examples of which it helped highlight personal flaws entirely veiled by the worries of day-to-day life and led to being aware enough of them to change

I loved Calvin and Hobbes as a kid. One comic in particular stuck with me over the years. In it, Calvin's father explains that two different points on a record player have to move at different speeds to finish their rotations at the same time.

For a long time I thought this meant that the whole of the 'inner' record moved at one speed, and the whole of the 'outer' record moved at another speed. It wasn't until years later that I realized that it meant that every distinct point on the radius of the record was moving at a different speed than the others and that the points cited in the strip just made for an easy reference.

Life Lesson: Just because you know something doesn't mean you understand it.

Do you mean videogames isn't actual life!? *mindblown*

What would one call a source for a life lesson not odd? Creators put so many life lessons in any media all the time, that you'll probably have seen them at some point even in the most niche entertainment.

EDIT: Anyways, 19 years ago, the Bonsai Kittens taught me to always double-check anything that comes from the Internet.
