Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath Moseys Onto PSN

The first/third-person shooter of the Oddworld franchise is coming back on the PlayStation Network in HD with added features.

Though the Oddworld series began as a side-scrolling adventure game that took place on a strange alien world and featured the gaseous Abe, it eventually branched out into a first/third-person shooter called Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath [http://www.amazon.com/Oddworld-Strangers-Wrath-Xbox/dp/B0006I5I58/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1283709184&sr=8-1] which starred a bounty hunter named Stranger for the original Xbox. Stranger's Wrath is coming back as a download on the PlayStation Network thanks to developer Just Add Water, which is upgrading the game for the PS3.

Stranger's Wrath was well received on the Xbox, so it's a good choice for a remake on the PSN. One of the oddest aspects of the game is Stranger's weapon, which is loaded up with different types of live critters that have different effects rather than having Stranger swap out weapons. Stranger's goal is to kill and capture bounties to earn moolah (the game's currency), used to upgrade his capabilities.

Just Add Water says the remake will be HD enhanced in 720p resolution. The graphics will be upgraded with more character detail, normal mapping, and self-shadowing, while the dialogue is also being remastered.

Unexpectedly, Just Add Water is adding support for PlayStation Move as well. Stewart Gilray of JAW says the remake is the "first project" in what he hopes will be a "long and fruitful relationship" with the franchise. The developer has been working closely with Oddworld creators Lorne Lanning and Sherry McKenna to keep it faithful to the original.

Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath will be released on the PlayStation Network around "Easter" 2011.

I've never played this game.
It just doesn't seem like an Oddworld game if you're not playing Abe.

I might pick this up. I mean, I never played the original Oddworld games with Abe in a side-scrolling perspective, but I think I'm one of the few people who actually enjoyed Munch's Oddysee.

Sounds like fun, I'll give it a shot.

I played the original three. This one just seems 'meh' Can anyone deny or agree on this?
Is it worth getting this time?

From what I've played, it's actually really awesome. Can't speak for the entirety of the game, though.

OT:

Day one purchase!

Even though it's unlike the previous games, it's still awesome and within the same world. Just different character and different mechanics.

Too bad I have a 360 instead...

I loved this game on the original xbox. Glad to see its coming to the next generation consoles one way or another.

*stares at 360 for not being backwards compatable with Stranger's Wrath. Or Beyond Good and Evil. Or Timesplitters 2/Future Perfet. Or Spartan Total Warrior. Or Kingdom Under Fire Heroes.*

I love the Oddworld series, but I don't have a PS3. I'd definitly pick it up if it came to the other platforms though, for nostalgias sake.

As much as I'm proud to sell my 360, I still regret the decision on buying a 360 instead of saving a little more and buy a PS3.

OT: I haven't played this game before, but from what I've seen in videos and reviews of the game at that time, the game looked awesome and seemed like it was actually fun to play. This game came out at the last couple of years before the Xbox was succeded by the 360, so as with any console in it's dying breath, it's natural to see games of this caliber coming out and it's also natural to many people to overlook the last few games because they're already anticipating the new console.

I can only hope this game comes out on Steam someday.

Are they changing the last level? Getting rid of that stupid COUNTDOWN CLOCK that made it impossible for me to beat the game? If not, I'll pass. I have this on Xbox and STILL haven't beaten it because of that stupid CLOCK! Grrr.....

I've never played any of the Odyssee games, hell I have no idea what they're about or how they play, but I have heard some good things about Stranger's Wrath. Consider this an intrigued buy.

He clarified after that he never said it would be exclusive to PSN.

So it's time to rejoice!

The oddworld series has a really close place in my heart. The first game I ever brought was oddworld 2. The series just has a real charm which other fataly lack. Wish they'd made a brand new one.
