...Why?

...And why now?

As near as I can tell, there hasn't been a real, full, non-re-release Mega Man game in several years. The closest thing according to Wikipedia was an iOS game that got raked over the coals so badly it never even saw a North American release. Isn't this banking on nostalgia, like, more than any reasonable businessperson (or even many unreasonable gamblers) would normally contemplate?

It's going to suck, but if anything I would like it to be animated and that it looked like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5lYRDC1Y7s

If I were able to Backseat CEO Fox:

1. Make it a Classically Animated/CGI Hybrid
2. Get Don Bluth's Studio and as many people as you can who worked on Titan A.E.

But because I'm not:

1. Megaman will be a teenager attending Highschool.
All while sitting in a huge office and thinking "It worked for Goku, it will work for anything we want."

Headline should read "Not content with ruining Fantastic Four, Fox continues war against everyone wearing blue".

Chernin, please be someone who has played the games and has any love for the franchise please be please give a shit pl...

Ok. Big challenge. They have to market it to a huge audience who has never touched a mega man game before. Good fucking luck, but I do pray you can pull this off while expecting absolutely nothing.

It took 8 replies before someone mentioned this?
For shame 'Pist.
Honestly, that was about as good as a MM movie could expect to be other than the effects.

It appears Capcom are badly in need of some business. Maybe fresh ideas would help. A pointer or two; Go out for a brisk walk in the park. Travel. Talk to strangers (i know your mum told you not to, but you're an adult now, so get with the fuckin program.) Cook many new dishes. Let the ideas then flow from your minds. Capcom? Are you even listening? Do you care anymore?

I will assume that just like every other videogame to movie transition it will be absolutely horrible. This belief shall remain until reviews come out after release.

So, what kind of trainwreck are we talking here?
Uwe Boll bad? Tekken (2010) bad? Live action DragonBall Z bad?

...oh, FOX.
So, Fantastic 4 bad.

Bring the marshmallows. I'll nab the graham crackers and nutella.

I think this is going to be a failure. The Mega Man have too many elements, that work well in games, but not on screen. If they leave them out, it will piss off the hardcore fans. If they put it in the movie, it will weird out all of the movie goers (including the Mega Man fans). It will be Super Mario Bros all over again.

The Planet of The Apes movies(Dawn and Rise of The) have been fantastic. However, they have a completely different tone to MegaMan, not to mention aesthetic and general philosophy.

I don't think that MegaMan would ever work as anything other than a B-movie. It's about a kid in a blue robot suit fighting other robots with completely arbitrary powers. That already sounds a bit like Turbo Kid, and that's the sort of manic energy it'd need.

Otherwise, this will be a re-imagining a la Hitman: Agent 47 that is just a generic action movie that is too goofy to be taken seriously, since MegaMan effectively has no story or relatable characters. So Hollywood will do what it always does, which is insert some audience-surrogate Americans into the mix and have the story revolve around them with MegaMan just being a thing that happens.

Honestly, the only upcoming video game movies that could feasibly work is the Metal Gear Solid one and the Assassin's Creed flick with Fassbender, since they already took heavy cues from films in their design and story-telling. Excising the interactivity aspect from games in translation onto a film is just not something current filmmakers can accomplish. At best, they can emulate the themes and atmosphere of the game in question, but not the reason why they were popular.

I want it to go full weird. I'm talking "disaffected nouveau riche sci-fi writer who only has the bad box art to go on" weird.
Anything else is going to be lame, you might as well just make it completely crazy.

So my favorite classic video game character is finally getting mined for a phoned-in movie adaptation? Capcom... if you want to make money off of Mega Man, why not just make a new fucking game instead of canceling them to spite Inafune? He only ever gave a shit about the X and Zero series anyway.

On that note, if you wanted to go 'dark and gritty' why not just go with the frickin' Mega Man X story? Not to mention the original Mega Man being 'dark and gritty' has already been done better by fans than Fox could ever do (see; The Protomen, The Megas). Darker does NOT mean smarter.

Loathe as I would be to put another IP under Disney's banner, I think they could have handled a project like this much better. A feature length Mega Man movie with Big Hero 6's animation? THAT would be perfect. Whatever live-action crap Fox barfs out is just going to disappoint Mega Man fans yet again.

Exactly! I don't think you can get any better than that without going 100% animated...

Dammit, you're right! I can never resist the Candy!

That would go double if all his lines are nothing but him saying "I am Rush!"...
