Okay so I'm going to start by saying that I am one of the few hardcore pc gamers left and our population is without a doubt crashing. This is due to all the good games being on consoles. I was watching G4 just now and heard about the upcoming Brutal Legend multiplayer. I check the games wiki only to see that the developer has no intention to release this game for PC calling it specifically a console game.
Why the fuck are developers ignoring one of the few gaming platforms that can be found multiple times in houses all over the world. They act like we can't jump on Amazon and get a 360 controller for 20 bucks. I beat Prototype and Street Fighter IV on my Laptop and it just annoys me that the PC only gets a few hit titles.
Why don't we get the chance to play Ninja Gaiden or Soul Calibur on our computers. It's absolutely rediculous.

Allow me to crush your argument by saying MMO ....... that is all

Firstly, it's ridiculous* and it's really not that bad. Ninja Gaiden is dull, the latest Soul Calibur is apparently not very good and neither is prototype.

We still get the likes of CoD: MW 2, Mafia 2, Bioshock 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Splinter Cell Conviction, Mass Effect 2 priority from Valve when it comes to games. You've basically picked 3 good (not great) games that aren't on PC and said they're dying off. If anything they're getting more attention then they've had in a long time.

And there's plenty more than the games I mentioned.
Prototype is available for the PC bro.
Yeah sorry I wrote it wrong, not sure how i was going to word it now. I was basically aiming at how he'd chosen 2 games not on PC and pissed all over the good stuff. Basically :p

As long as we have Valve PC gaming is always better, if Brutal ssells it'll probably hit pcs. Psychonauts did after about a year.

There's plenty of pc games not hitting consoles, just go look on steam.

I don't see the complaint Capcoms game have been significantly improved in the PC versions sure consoles got a few games like UT3 but it still plays best on the PC.

Really people making money on PC is easy as hell just ask the one man creator of Audiosurf (out selling Valve products on valves own distribution network!) or Popcap or Blizzard whos WoW generates the same annual revenue as EA!
SFighter 4 has given the PC gamer the first decent fighting game on the platform for years or how Assassins creed the best 3D action game since the early Tomb raiders.
The products also offer far more remember how you could make a bit map in MSpaint and then turn it into a level in Worms Armageddon.

Platform Exclusivity doesn't mean a damm so what if Crytek bring Crysis to the consoles about 3 years after the original. FF13 hasn't abbandoned Sony its just branched out.

Personally I want to see more cross-platform gameplay we all have net access now the divide is stupid considering how easily I can send a video file to someone 2000 miles away why can't I play and chat with my 360 owning friends in L4D from my PC.

While some people would like us to believe that the PC is dying as a gaming platform, I have to say it still looks damned healthy to me.

These prophets of doom have been wrong year after year, so you'd think they might give it a rest sometime.

"One of the few hardcore PC gamers left"

Please tell me what the fuck that is supposed to mean?

Seriously, get off your high horse and stop calling yourself that like it makes you better than everyone else. And since when were fighting games ever really popular on the PC?

Fuck off with the whole "hardcore" complex and go play one of the many great PC games to come out this year.

Please stop with the old and tired idea that PC gaming is dying. It is retarded. PC gaming will never die. /Thread. *kill the subject*

We are doing perfectly fine. Stop with the doom and gloom attitude. Most games being made right now are really really bad so it doesn't matter that we're not getting them.

Yes this is the greatest tradgedy ever to befall the gaming world. I totally agree and simpathize, developers should without a doub make games for every platform available, and pay to create an equal amount of copies on each.

That alone discredits everything. Seriously, PC gets good games. If a game doesn't come out for it, then buy a console as it seems you like playing console games.
Also, stay away from G4. They'll make you stupid.

You don't seem very "hardcore" if you can't notice that we aren't crashing.

And G4? Really?

3 reasons why PCs are ignored:

1. Harder to develop a "cutting edge" game that runs on a system people can afford.
2. The high price of PC components (some video cards cost more than an entire console) mean very few people devote enough money to run top of the line games.
3. Piracy. The few PC gamers know how and where to steal games rather than paying for them.

Why would any developer look at that list and think "I want to make a PC game" when they can make console games that don't suffer from those flaws (okay, a small % of people pirate console games, but it's not as easy or prevalent).
1)I have my brand new PC (Q6600 Quad / Dual Geforce 280 / c.a. 4GB DDR2 Ram) for about 900USD.
2)Read above (PC parts are not EXPENSIVE)
3. a)CD-Keys b)Online activation c)PC game security is very good.

Oh yes, it's VERY easy to pirate games for consoles - get your console modded (easy to find a guy who can do that) and play away. Yes, online play is most likely prohibited on a pirated copy on the console - but so for the PC!

While I have no solid facts to back it up, I believe that most pirates of PC games are people who were not going to buy the game in the first place. 2D BOY, the creators of "World of Goo" share that same sentiment. They estimate that 80% of their players are using pirated copies (Source [http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/11/15/world-of-goo-piracy-rate-82/]) but they only believe that 1 or 2 out of every 1000 pirated copies could have been a sale.

3 reasons why PCs are ignored:

1. Harder to develop a "cutting edge" game that runs on a system people can afford.
Firstly, you overestimate the cost of a gaming quality PC. Secondly, to make a "cutting edge" game that runs on an average gaming PC takes no more effort than it does to make a modern console game, considering the strength of an average gaming PC. See the end of my post for more details.

2. The high price of PC components (some video cards cost more than an entire console) mean very few people devote enough money to run top of the line games.
Only the highest of the high end video cards cost that much, very few gamers look to this price point for their cards. Most gamers buy upper mid-range cards that cost in the $150-$200 range. Again, look at the end of my post and notice the $150 price tag on the video card.

3. Piracy. The few PC gamers know how and where to steal games rather than paying for them.
A valid complaint, but it's not agreed upon about how much pirating effects sales. Sure, it's an easy scapegoat and is commonly cited when companies complain about sales figures, but most of the time they don't provide any proof or numbers.
The creators of Dead Space noticed there were 2x as many players as there were copies sold, but instead of blaming piracy, they believed it to be from second hand sales.[/quote] It's worth nothing that they were only looking at PS3 and Xbox users when they pulled their numbers.

So, back to computer pricing, here's the mock system I built. It assumes you have zero existing parts that you're going to use (or re-use) and cuts no corners - I included a 1080p monitor, keyboard/mouse, headset, operating system, even thermal paste and a second case fan. The grand total, with shipping included comes to $921.27. (Shipping cost me $31 or so, this cost will vary depending on where you live.)

I know what you're thinking, "900 bucks is WAY more than any console!" Yes, while that is true, you're reading this forum on a computer, so you've already spent a good chunk of that $900 to get that computer. The real question is "How much price difference is there between this computer and the one you bought?" In other words, how much more money (if any) would it have taken for you to have a gaming computer instead of an office one? Also, if you were to upgrade your computer today, how many parts would you re-use? You could knock a good $300-500 off the price tag if you have enough parts worth re-using.

Rather than post an entire review, I'll post one benchmark from a game that most people are familiar with
That's a $150 graphics card averaging 80+ frames per second at a higher resolution and higher image quality than any console can do.

/end wall of text.

1 and 2 are just plain wrong and 3 is a reason to go multiplatform rather than ignore the PC totally.

To the OP, the PC market / population is not crashing if anything and judging by some of the morons playing left 4 dead of late their seems to be a worrying trend of console nubs jumping over to play PC games. The PC gene pool is being polluted by the console market. Games like BF1943 would never have seen the light of day if it weren't for the console market and us PC gamers would probably be playing BF3 by now.

No the market is expanding but not really in a good way, how can you call yourself hardcore about anything and be so wrong about the facts?

A PC apocalypse? No way, as long as Valve and Blizzard develop for the PC, no such thing is gonna happen anytime soon.. "One of the last hardcore PC gamers".. erm no, if you were really hardcore you wouldn't bother whining on forums, you'll be at some invitational tourney in some blizzard game... be it Starcraft, Warcraft or WoW. And, look at the hyping from people, what have we been begging for mostly of all games as a community for some time now? Diablo 3, Half-life 2 ep3, and Starcraft 2... And with alot of MMO fans out there, its not gonna crash... No way.

And yes I own both a PC and a Console, console for single player games, PC for multiplayer games. Why? The freakin' keyboard.. Consoles have the problem of being "voice or nothing" and im all for the nothing there. Chat is mainly text, end of story, ofc I get on Skype/VT/TS whenever we raid in WoW, BUT the idle chat during the day is text based, consoles will never have that.

And, to end with a quote, "To truely own, one must own in all games" The_Masterer, PurePwnage, EP 4

The way I see it, there's 2 different types of games.

FPS's, which belong on the PC, as you have better, more accurate aiming, and a better, more mature community.

Just about everything else(Platformers and the like to be specific). Those go on consoles, as they are, undoubtedly, easier to control and play.

And this comes from me, who has played many games on consoles, and a few on computer. (mainly TF2)

Honestly, those don't seem to fit on PC to me... and I do have a 360 controller for it... Same with sport games and RPGs (like Final Fantasy)... and I think that FPS games suck on consoles... so much better with a mouse and keyboard then with analog sticks...

Only think that is annoying me is that the Call of Duty series started on PC and now they are focusing more on consoles and PC is kind of left behind... we eventually get CoD5 updates/map packs and no prestige edition for CoD6... lame...

Okay I will admit the PC has a couple genres that just won't thrive on consoles such as RTS and MMORPG but those game are getting extremely repetative. I should back up a bit and say why doesn't the PC get more fighting and action games.
As far as our population falling, I don't know about you guys but I've been pretty into a few communities for the past few years and alot of them simply stopped playing their PC because many games were just not coming to it or simply coming months or years after it's console release.
I wouldn't say that RTS's and MMORPG's are repetitive. That's like saying FPS's are repetitive because you kill people in all of them.
