Actually, there's a fascinating irony there ... or something vastly sinister, depending on your point of view.
On 15 March every year, people in the USA eat meat to stick two fingers and a bloodied fork up in the direction of PETA as a protest at PETA's hijacking of The Holocaust (everyone forgets the Armenians too!) for their own cause, because it's such a sacred example of what must NEVER AGAIN be allowed to happen.

... except that they're doing it, typically, around 7pm-8pm on the east coast of the USA, 5 hours behind GMT. 7 hours ahead of GMT, 12 hours ahead of them, is thus 7am-8am 16 March ... in Vietnam.

Now, maybe it's just me, but I can't help thinking that, no matter how badly they go about it, n years to the hour after that isn't the time to be light-heartedly sticking two fingers up at people campaigning for rights. For me, if you want to do something special on the evening or 15 March in the USA, you should go and lay fresh flowers on Hugh Thompson's grave in Lafayette Memorial Park, Louisiana. Just ignore PETA.

Yup, wars are terrible. Regardless how terrible, things done during them are completely irrelevant to animals' rights. One human life is more important than any number of animals' suffering, period. So, comparing the fact that the fur industry(Or whatever animals rights issue) still exists to an atrocity committed during a war, it is just insulting. I think I just figured it out. PETA is literally a group of people who have a perverse sexual fetish for animal suffering and wish to share their affection with the world. How would they get pictures of animal cruelty on billboards and television without doing it for an apparently moral cause? Seriously, PETA needs to understand that culling animals en masse doesn't make for a strong case for their organization, and they ideally need to realize that other watchdog groups for the preservation of animal life aren't in complete agreement with them.

I'm Canadian and therefore have to go through the SPCA for the greater Montreal area. Now, these guys feel like absolute dirtbags whenever they have to euthanize a single animal and they stretch the limits of their support to the absolute maximum. Some dogs can stick around for two weeks before being put down - they really do everything they can to give the pooches and kitties a chance to find a home.
Now if you want REALLY horrendous animal cruelty, check out the Auberge du Berger Blanc in Montreaal. These assholes practically butcher their occupants as soon as they come in, and grieving owners who can't pay to be there during euthanasia typically end up finding out that their pets received intra-cardiac injections and were tossed out into garbage bins while still alive. Believe me, that's utter agony.
I've had to put my dog down last January, and I was adamant in trusting only my veterinarian to do the job properly. I saw Whiskey die, I can attest that he didn't suffer. That's all the validation I could've asked for.
