Alright, after being a viewer of this site and these forums for over a year now it's about time I got my own account and started posting. I know that this topic as probably been done before, but it was the first thing I thought of that I know you escapists can help me out with.

I (like everyone else) have got a netbook. I had another laptop for games but it recently broke down and because of this I am forced to play on my 1.6 Ghz Asus. Not a lot of games run on these machines so I've dug up some old classics like Planescape: Torment, Diablo I + II, Age of Empires etc. Now a lot of these games came before I got into video games, and many are considered genre classics for their time. I was wondering what your choices are for older games that any gamer should play before they die.

P.S. Go easy on me, It's my first time...

I'm a big fan of Age of Empires 2, and think it is one of the better real-time strategy games out there. If you like puzzley games, I would suggest games like Myst or the Monkey Island series (if you want a funnier game).

Beyond good and evil
Prince of Persia: sands of time
The entire Legacy of Kain Series <3, but with particular weight on the first (Blood omen), the first Soul Reaver and the final game Legacy of Kain: Defiance.
Alien Vs. Predator (the old one)
Full Throttle
Monkey Island III
Hexen: Beyond Heretic (probably the best and at times most confusing level design in a fps ever)
System Shock 1/2. I've only played the 2nd one but its one of the absolutely scariest games I've played. And best.
Resident Evil 1 (play the remake on Gamecube if you can, its fantastic and still looks GREAT)
Okami (Ps2)
Realms of the Haunting (but you probably wont be able to dig this up). A fantastic game, difficult, engaging and with a mind-boggling storyline full of occult yummyness.

Some of these are older than others but its still some of the best games I have played ever, and every single one of them are games I can pick up today and have as much fun with as I had when I played them.

Also: Good call on Planescape, that is one incredible game.

Planescape: Torment
THIS, so much! Really, if I could, I would make anyone who hasnt played it do so. But I am biased, because its pretty much the only game i call myself a "fan" of. But I think it is a reference to benchmark other games to (at least storywise) so it might be a good idea for every RPG fan out there to experience real nice storytelling before the die.
