Oh, it equals 1. Seriously.

It equals nearly 1 with a slightly larger error than 0.9r=1
Agree to disagree?
[sub]Honestly, that phrase needs more application...[/sub]
You do realise I have absolutely no idea and I'm just being facetious, right?

HAHAHA that is golden! I think 0.999999999999 = 1 should be the forum meme.
Which naturally means it won't be.
Personally I find a different question gnawing at me now...

What does 0.999999999998 equal?
Well fine.

Oh, it equals 1. Seriously.
It equals nearly 1 with a slightly larger error than 0.9r=1
It's actually an infinitely larger error, but *shrug*.

Eh, I like being as cautious as possible.
Makes games with a "Choose X or Y" thing to do rather difficult let me tell you, but that's irrelevant.

I say it equals "Yes".
[sup]That seems more relevant.[/sup]

That's all that needs to be said, really. You people are arguing over numbers, for God's sake.

Cracked was right. I can't believe it.

Plus somebody apparently bumped the old Thread, so there's that can of worms revealed to around 2-ish years worth of new members/potential Mathematicians.

On Topic... Well honestly I don't see it as how much things may have changed, as it is a good look at how things were never as different from other Forums back then, except for the whole "Math"[footnote]Okay Firefox, why is it that "Math" isn't a word, but "Maths" is?[/footnote] part, that just made you closer to the Bungie Forums apparently.
I kid I kid... Mostly...
HAHAHA that is golden! I think 0.999999999999 = 1 should be the forum meme.
YES! We can add it to the traditional greeting of new members:

"Welcome to the Escapist, stay out of the basement, and 0.99999... = 1"

Also, "math" is the Americanisation of "maths", so either is right depending on whether you're in America or the British Isles.

Before my time. However, I find it kind of hilarious now that I'm reading through it.

My thoughts exactly.
The Escapist: where 0.999999 is 1.

I saw the escapist name and just smiled, cause I knew there was going to be a thread here about it.

But yeah, its nice to see it on cracked (may bring some more users to the site, may not) but Im not going to weigh in on the infinity discussion.

Also lets switch it and say the error is so small that it is zero.
1/Infinity is the error and 0/Infinity=0 (because 0/1 0/31414 0/56 is all zero)

1 Part of a infinite amount of parts should still be bigger than 0 parts of a infinite amount of parts.
