Old-School Iori DLC Coming To King Of Fighters XIII

Though King of Fighters XIII won't hit shelves until next week, Atlus has already revealed what's in store for the game's first round of downloadable content.

Specifically, that means a classic incarnation of fan-favorite fighter Iori Yagami. From Atlus' press release:

The most prominent of the DLC is the fan favorite "Iori with the Power of Flames" character from the franchise's popular '98 iteration, scheduled to release on 12/7 for 400 MS Points/$4.99.

Less prominent additions include "a trio of system themes" and downloadable keys that unlock game content that would otherwise be inaccessible to players until they achieve certain in-game goals. If I had to guess, this would things like hidden characters, playable bosses and alternate costumes.

As for when these other add-ons will be available, that remains a mystery, though Atlus promises to offer up that information and pricing details just as soon as it can.

Having read the above quote regarding the classic Iori, many fighting game fans will be wondering whether the character is an entirely new addition to the game modeled on the KoF'98-era Iori, or if it's a simple palette-swap for the KoFXIII Iori.

Obviously the moveset is the really crucial part of the DLC character, but the series has seen a pretty severe aesthetic evolution over the past decade and a half. At least in theory, this add-on character could be either bafflingly retro or so similar to his modern counterpart as to be utterly boring. We've sent an email to Atlus asking for more details on the character, but have yet to hear back.

Until we have more info, temper your excitement.

Day 1 dlc. Oh snk, why you?
God forbid they do anything in the months it takes to make the disks, package them, ship them, and then release the game.

Combo videos have already been released for the Old Iori. It's not just a palette swap, it's the actual original Iori both in moveset and visual design.

Yeah, because it's totally cool to say "Hey, we finished the game, now what do we add to it?" or "Sr. wouldn't fans want classic Iori? You're right, lets make him DLC". It's not like it is something that didn't crossed their mind during development.

Edit: One more thing, this game was due on oct 20, but they didn't finish it. So coming from there it took them a month to finish the game, make the disks, package them, ship them and then release them

How the hell is KoF still going? who is buying these relics every year? it's worse than Madden.
So is Street fighter in that case and both series have evolved way more than Madden and there have been like 3 kof games in the last 8 years (not counting 98 and 2002 remakes).

Someone tell me why the fuck this guy has his legs tied together?
I think it has something to do with not opening his legs more than convenient.

it's been known for weeks that it's Iori with his classic moveset as opposed to the new one he's had since KoFXII. Alternate movesets for Kyo and Takuma has also been hinted at.

I always thought KoF was a better fighting series than Street Fighter or Tekken or whatever. It just hasn't been handled correctly; just look at all the negative comments and dumb remarks. People hardly know of the series' existence.

*Sigh* I'm not even excited about the game itself. But then again, I suck at fighting games.

I'll take this one.

Because administering massive beatdowns against bosses with room filling unblockable one hit kill supers they can use at will makes all other fighting games look weak and lets you juggle street fighter scrubs like Ringling Brothers.

I've seen one courtesy of the unofficial Capcom smackfest Shoryuken [www.shoryuken.com] and Classic Iori looks FUCKING RI-GODDAMN-DICULOUS.

You don't play a lot of fighting games, do you? Unlike Madden, KoF actually makes significant changes with each iteration, if only in new characters.

Also, Ono recently let it be known that SF is only big in the US and Japan. Most of the other countries greatly prefer KoF over SF.

That's Fatal Fury actually, a separate series indirectly tied to the KoF games (and vice versa).

Hmm... you probably already knew that. :p

It's also KOF, depending on which one, (stupid black hole move), Last Blade II, and occasionally Samurai Shodown/Spirits.

And, yes, I think Last Blade and Samurai Shodown/Spirits need more games in those series. I grow weary of SoulCalibur.

Sadly, Rock's only been in KoF 2006, which is actually part of the 3D spin-off series Maximum Impact.

And in SNK vs Capcom as well as Garou: Mark of the Wolves (which more or less finishes the Fatal Fury franchise...)
