Old Spice Guy Joins the Avengers

The Old Spice Guy has ridden his jet ski lion and found his way to the Avengers tower.

Not only is he the man that your man could smell like, but the Old Spice Guy, whose real name is Isaiah Mustafa, is also something of a comic book geek, and has a burning desire to play the Marvel super hero Luke Cage.

With that in mind, when Marvel needed someone to lend his voice to Cage in the latest Marvel Super Heroes: What The --?! web show [http://www.youtube.com/user/MARVEL#g/c/72362A49FB745604], it knew where to go. The What The --?! series is a tongue-in-cheek, satirical take on the Marvel Universe, so Mustafa's Old Spice-themed performance fit right in. It's such a wonderfully silly video you can't help but laugh.

Cage isn't one of Marvel's better known heroes, but he was one of the first African-American super heroes to have their own comic series, and is considered a groundbreaking, if occasionally controversial, character. Aside from his comic book appearances, Cage has featured in the Marvel: Ultimate Alliance [http://www.amazon.com/Marvel-Ultimate-Alliance-Xbox-360/dp/B000G82KU4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1286046530&sr=8-1] games, and was a support character in Spider-Man: Web of Shadows [http://www.amazon.com/Spider-Man-Web-Shadows-Xbox-360/dp/B001811BUI/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1286046579&sr=1-1]. Supposedly, there is also a movie based on the character in the works, although it's been in development for over five years with no sign of ever getting made.

I was hoping this meant that he'd be in the movie. After all, if any casting choice could make me shell out money to see something directed by Joss Whedon, it'd be him.

But alas, no such luck. It was still funny, though.

I will pay for others to see it if he's in the movie.

The actual vid wasn't too brill-o but you know.

Damn you Logan, and your misleading news titles! Damn you!

If Old Spice Man was in the Avengers Movies, I'd freeze myself up till the opening night just to see the movie.

Oh well, still awesome though.

That video wasn't nearly as good as the commercials. Kind of like a naff parody, using the guy who did the original. Kind of baffling, really.

I hear Beta Ray Bill at the end, and can't help think that the poor guy is one horse comment away from cracking up.

Dammit Logan!
Stop doing that with your titles!
You keep getting my damn hopes up, then dashing them....

Well, the vid was funny, but not as good as the commercials. Still, could you imagine what it would be like if he were Cage? I mean, i was already definately going to see the movie, but were he to be in it, I doubt I'd ever leave.

Like the above, I sorta thought that meant he was going to be in the actual movie.

As far as the commercial goes... You have to walk a fine line when you get a hit catchphrase or skit. Much like Bart's "I didnt do it", over-saturation, and mis-application, can kill it.
This commercial didnt kill my love for OSG... but it was definitely a flop.
