Omega Ruby and Alpha Saphire are missing a couple things from the X and Y series.

I just got Omega Ruby for Christmas and I notice a couple things missing from X and y right off the bat. I was kind of hoping they would let you pick you skin color since you could change your gender in the other Pokemon remakes and you couldn't do that until Pokemon Crystal.

Also you can't customize your Appearance.

You also can't cruise around in skates. I personally don't like the decision. Yeah, the character models are true to the original, but why can't I customize the MC? He/she is a blank slate for the player anyway.

That sounds like an improvement to me. I hate that you have to use skates to move around with the analogue stick (or pad or whatever it is.) I wanted to move around freely but found the skates to move a bit too fast for my liking.

I liked them because it introduced a running option that didn't require you to hold down B while also not being unwieldy like the bike.

I feel the reason the Hoenn remakes didn't include the trainer customization or ability to choose skin colour, is because they wanted to keep those features unique to X and Y.

Don't get me wrong I was disappointed when I discovered, I couldn't dress my character in the way I see fit. But, I just think they want to keep certain features unique to one game.

Maybe it should've been optional like the Bike?

That would have been a good compromise.

That's silly though. Why REMOVE enhancements to a series? Especially one so many players like? This was a feature that should have been built upon, not discarded. I was really disappointed that these remakes didn't take the opportunity to improve on the base game more with the modern features, this being one of them.

Yeah, I miss the character creation, and the roller blades, but I guess the latter would make the Acro bike useless.

Character customization is always a bonus in my book.

I'd say that the big downside is the character customization removal, but upon playing the game, even online, it wasn't as depressing as I expected (more on this after). The character has more methods of walk-paces that utilize the joystick, so I don't miss the skates. Not to mention, I felt a bit... fruitish... having rollerblades.

But your avatar can be one of the trainer classes now, which I actually prefer to the old customizations. When you see the heads pop up in the list of online passers by, the "custom" avatars ironically all start to look the same, as opposed to the trainer classes. ("Rob identifies as a Ninja Boy, Lara calls herself a Hex Maniac, and ^^dck^^ is a Guitarist". As opposed to "Billy wears a black hat, but John's is white.") Of course, what would be ideal is a level of customization that enables you to differentiate to the point that the trainer classes do.

Of course, the single-player offline character looks like a little pansy. I almost picked the girl so that I wouldn't have to look at him.

And the game is vastly superior everywhere else. IMHASBO.

The only problem I had with ORAS was that my character wasn't a tan-based black person... But, then again, I was just replaying the same character I played when I played the OG Ruby/Sapphire version, so it was more of a "minor" inconvenience when going from X/Y to ORAS for me...

Other than that, I don't think this is the first time something that was considered a "new edition" to the base game that wasn't added in a future/next base game... <color=white>So, there's that, I guess...

I personally hated the skates but I liked how much I could customize my character in Y. I also really miss how the top-Pokemon in your party would follow behind you while walking around. It's a couple of minor things of course...overall, I'm having a good time with my copy of Omega Ruby.

The skates are Kalos only because Roller Blades are a popular(?) form of transportation in France. I'm guessing they thought the player would be out of place being the only one with skates.

You can't change the players skin because unlike all of the other player avatars we actually know both of he parents this time.

I find it a little silly people are acting like the feature is gone forever since OR/AS Is just a remake. It'll be back in Z version or whatever they call it. Customization is neat but it's not too big of a deal for me since I can find one set of clothing that I actually like. If it's not in gen 7 i'll be upset but i'll move on pretty quick.

The team that works on the main series of Pokemon games (X/Y, Black/White, etc ) are not the same team that worked on the side games (Yellow, Emerald, All remakes) and the two teams work on the games at the same time so not all features from the mothership titles make it into the side games.

The feature was not so much removed as it was never likely implemented in the remakes in the first place and the designer saying that they wanted to stay true to the originals was likely just a convenient excuse.

Yeah I missed the character customization alongside with being able to buy and wear new clothing and accessories.

Also I missed having the nurse/ healer at the entrance to every cave, forest and some route. Sure there was still a few but it was far too less in my view.

Didn't know that. That would explain how quickly OR/AS came out after X/Y.

Edit: It is nice to see that character customization was so popular. That basically guarantees it from now on.

Yeah but Included people of different skin colors was kind of a big thing its like when they included the ability to play as a girl. It increases immersion.

So its like COD when something good doesn't make it too the next iteration.

The lack of character customisation is a bit of a downer, but I'm more annoyed by the fact that they didn't think to combine the functions of the 2 different bikes. (or at least let the player carry both in their inventory.)

I prefer the way they did it in Heart Gold And Soul Silver where running was controlled by an on off button at the touchscreen.
