Ugh, I know the feeling. It's the worst at sit-down restaurants, because they always stop pretty much everything, consequences be damned, to sing their own take on a birthday song. I makes for really awkward conversations. Not just yours, but pretty much everyone else is annoyed by it too.
Remember: it's always worse for the staff. Especially the singing ones.

I kinda hated birthdays because I was always expected to want some kind of party with my friends and I just couldn't be bothered most years.

Don't get me wrong, I loved my friends, so I usually just asked what they wanted. I never knew what I wanted and the pressure to decide and then the expectation that I have to enjoy it immensely was annoying.

Now I hate birthdays 'cause I'm alone on them anyway, so there's literally no difference to any other day. I tend to try and take my birthdays off any social media sites so I don't get clogged up with "obligatory" greetings. I get the thought behind it but they don't make me feel any happier or sadder if I don't get any.
Right on. I think I spent my favourite birthday alone in my room with a cheapo DVD, drinking flat Carlsberg and eating pizza more or less off my chest. The pressure of Christmas sometimes makes me want to slap a mall Santa in the face and piss up against a shop display window. Food's pretty good, though.

I hate mine. Not because I'm getting older or because I hate being the center of attention. No, I hate mine because it seems to be the day I have negative luck. If there is any day that will go bad for me, it's my birthday. If there is a day that things will go the worst they can, it's my birthday. My best birthdays were the ones people forgot. So, I'm content to forget the day. I'll happily celebrate a friend's birthday, but not mine.
Oh shit, that's you, isn't it? Must try harder to remember that; I kept thinking it was the other guy with a name that ends in k. Hope the RP's steaming along well enough.

OT: I forgot the day of my birthday...and probably my age as well. Strangely enough, it's never really been relevant.

Hence why I didn't reply to your happy birthday wish this year. Not that I don't appreciate what you were trying to do, I just wanted to forget the day. Wasn't trying to be rude or anything.

Take care, though.

It's a good thing my birthday this year is on a Sunday so that I would be the second person at the center of attention... as well as the third being at the center of attention... HA!

But seriously, I fucking love celebrating my birthday! When I was in elementary school, the whole class would stop just to celebrate your fucking existence without any shred of racial irony! You're birthday didn't fall on a school day, let alone a school year? Well, one of us would be happy to share a birthday celebration with! It was fucking awesome back then!!

Middle school was one-half "lets take FPLOON out of class to dance-celebrate someone else's birthday" and one-half "I know which friends care about you the same way you care about them", with the latter half extending throughout high school and "unexpectedly" leading towards making my own birthday cake and having my "birthday party" be on a day in December, at least... I still love when my birthday does come around, but mostly for the shit I'm going to do instead of just celebrating being <url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Dtp50XGn1w>"another year older, another year wiser"...

Overall, I could never hate my birthday... However, the act of celebrating it fully may not even be on my birthdate at all... Other than that, the only time I didn't want anyone celebrating my birthday was when I was running a MLP:FiM fan site[footnote]You could look that shit up if you're that curious... :p[/footnote] and, since you mentioned your birthday is this month:

I never in my entire life had a Birthday party. It started with the unfortunate timings of my groundings, then just kind of spun out of control. We of course had cake and presents, but never had anyone over.

Now, at 28, I don't hate my Birthday, I just don't see the point of inconveniencing anyone with mine. I get a gift for myself and drive on.

I do, however, get a sick sense of pleasure tricking people into missing my Birthday. The last time, I actually went out to see a movie with a friend, and picked up the ticket, food and gas cost because I'm a nice guy. On my way taking her home, she went on and on about how she knew my birthday was in April, and she was going to find out what day it was on and do all this special stuff. I didn't say a thing until I got back in my car and was driving away, when I rolled down my window, stuck my head out and shouted 'My birthday is today!' I then sped down the road, swerving erratically and cackling at top volume as I went.

I'm kind of weird.

Heck, I bet the OP would had wanted my 21st birthday cos I did NOTHING on it. I was in Uni at that time and I had shit tons of work that I couldn't just put if off for a day and I'm not a drinker so a party in a bar is out of the question (mind you I did went to played Mario Kart Wii at GAME for this competition before the game came out).
I hated my 21st birthday. Just thinking about it makes me feel extremely awkward. I was basically kidnapped by my friends and forced to celebrate it. I had a friend pick me up from work but instead of him dropping me off at my house like I asked he instead takes me over to Buffalo Wild Wings and tells me we are going to celebrate my birthday. I was against it but I decided just to go with it and get it over with ASAP. Turns out he invited my other couple of friends, family, and some of my co-workers. I fucking hated it. It was one of the most awkward days that I ever had. I basically just went with it just to get it over with as quickly as possible.

I don't mind them with people I like, but there is an increasing problem that comes with age as people who you don't like at all just show the fuck up and invite themselves into your home.
So then these a-holes are eating and drinking my fucking stuff, wasting my fucking day, usually bring horrid gifts which you should somehow be grateful for and of course entertain them because they sure as fuck don't intend to leave any day soon.

In short if you weren't invited don't come near my house.

Yeah, I dislike my birthday. It's always a bad day, and whenever someone says happy birthday to me, I ask them not to tell anyone else.
It was crappy this year as well, and I'm still getting over it. Despise the attention and presents it brings, since some people just can't take "I don't want anything" for an answer.

...Holy crap, I'm gonna be a massive outlier and say, I do enjoy my Birthday.

It's pretty much mostly harmless. At worst, I don't mind, and at best, I do enjoy being the center of attention. Haven't had a traditional party in more than a decade and haven't gotten gifts from anyone besides immediate family in about half that though(because my friends are cheapskates, grumble grumble...).

Is it an arbitrary, pointless, not-so-special day in the scheme of things? Sure. But it's nice to have a nice little milestone that you somehow managed to go a year without ending up a fatality. Plus, any reason to celebrate and have a little fun on that day, why not?

Also, I never got the "Oh I'm growing old thing". Like yea, that's gonna happen while you're alive. Might as well make the best of it.

That said, I do always remember running into a stream of bad luck on my Birthday.

Luckily that has never happened to me. What causes that to happen? Do people just stop caring as they older or something?

Yeah, definitely a lot of people hate them, for me it's a lot of reasons but anyway I don't like being the centre of attention, I don't like receiving anything from anyone much less presents and I've never really cared about anyone else's birthday so why should anyone bother with mine.

In any case it just fills me with an uncontrollable sense of rage, ever since I was 6 I've had to get away from everybody and just spend the day all by myself just wandering around in order to not get pissed off, it's not too bad though my parents stopped bothering trying to celebrate it around the time I was 10 since there was no point because I wasn't even around and the previous year I had to call them to pick me up at the other side of the city, because that's where I ended up from all that roaming, but anyway not a fan of birthdays here.

I hate mine.
First of all why celebrate me? I had nothing to do with it.
Next up: I didn't ask to be born in this crazy world in the first place!
Then my birthday is most of the time the very first normal work day of the new year since the few days before that is usually holiday season... fuck the first work day and work in general.
I'm a dead boring person, I don't party. I consider it a waste of money, I don't smoke, I don't drink and I'm generally as interesting as a sack of potatoes. I consider myself a misanthrope. I hate people. I can stand few, most get on my nerves especially kids. So no I don't want a crowd of mostly annoying people for hours at my place to party.
I don't get the present stuff either. I earn my own money and enough of it. What I want, I have. Additionally my family doesn't approve of video gaming as a hobby so they always gift me stuff trying to get me away from it... ANNOYING!
Last but not least I can't stand attention either positive or negative. I try to fly as low as possible below the radar. My birthday makes that impossible from the family side of things and every year I got to hope that the stupid chick from HR doesn't run her mouth.
I think I'm the happiest being left alone doing nothing since I'm lazy as fuck as well (ties into being boring I guess...)

I never bring up my birthday to anyone so after some time having changed my work place 3 times in 10 years the only people even knowing my birthday as of right now is my family, one childhood friend that knows I don't celebrate and of course the database of HR.
I intent to keep it that way.

I know I?m a sunshine...

Better quality food and drinks, enjoyed in the company of friends and family. If you cannot enjoy that, or your restaurants just suck, then you're really missing out!

I'm kind of imagining an angry 9 year old raging across a city leaving devestation in his wake.

On topic... I like my birthday. It's always been pleasant for me. I get positive attention from people I like and people I don't know tend not to know when my birthday is. I like presents. Also an excuse to hang out with a good friend because we have the same birthday.

Wow, I didn't know that birthday hate was so prevalent on this site.

I've never before felt such a sense of belonging here.

For me it's all about the center of attention thing. Don't like it one bit. If I'm ever the center of attention, I like it to be when I'm doing something deserving of it, like giving a presentation, or telling a joke. Even then, I don't always like it. I can't have people listen to me play the piano without going beet red and completely messing up.

Kind of informs my wardrobe too, some people like clothes that make them stick out and get noticed, I shoot for clothing that makes me as unnotable as possible. It seems stupid for me to make myself the center of attention because of what I'm wearing. Likewise, it feels weird to make myself the center of attention because I still exist.

Although, there's also the expectations that arise from it. I never had really high expectations for it, just the hope that it wouldn't turn out to be lousy. When I was in elementary school there was a running trend for people to sideline me at my own birthday party, which I found frustrating due to my obligation to stay to the end. I suppose that sort of soured the experience for me as well.

Ideally on my birthday I just do something fun and ordinary with a couple of friends and that's fine for me. Most years I actually forget about it

I certainly don't enjoy my birthdays as much as I used to. Being a year older used to be super cool, but now it's kinda distressing. I know I have no right to complain about feeling old, being a 23 year old and all. Maybe it's because I feel like the last few years of my life have been sort of aimless and uneventful. Adding another year makes it feel like I'm wasting my precious time.

Judging by my post, I am scared to think about how I'll feel about birthdays when I actually do older. :p

Never been a fan of my birthday's. Any attempt's by others to bring up my birthday to me leads to them no longer having any place in my life, regardless who they are. I find it's a rather sadistic thing to remind people of. The day you were born, you were doomed to death. Celebrating a persons impending mortality is a task for enemies, not those that claim to be your friends. I have looked at my birthdays as a source of dread for as long as I can remember. Granted when I was being raised by my parents they would use the day as an excuse to beat the crap out of me to remind me that I was not special. That may have added slightly to my sense of dread regarding birthdays, but that was only a minor change from most days growing up.

Well I was pretty good at pick-pocketing back then and I went around throwing rocks at windows and breaking glass bottles I found laying around, does that count as chaos and devastation?[footnote]I was kind off a huge asshole when I was a kid.[/footnote]

I think a mini riot of broken windows, glass, and empty pockets would at least feel like that to anyone around so yes
