Well this came out of nowhere.

So far I can tell how they are tackling this one though, is it gonna be like Assassin's Creed, Skyrim or Breath of the Wild?

Or a Platformer like Super Mario Odyssey?

Luffy has bat vision! And his arm works like the batclaw from the Arkham series.

It seems to be an early build, so it's hard to judge. I like the art style, it looks really good. The world seems devoid of all life, the Ai seems to be as dumb as bricks, and combat needs some polishing, but, again, it's early. From the sounds of it, it doesn't seem like we'll get to sail the Thousand Sunny, which is kinda disappointing. It also sounds like we'll only be playing as Luffy, which would be even more disappointing.

I'm just imagining that double Spider-Man meme with Spider-Man PS4 looking at Luffy.

Me on seeing this thread's headline: Oh, so a game of ship sailing set in the world of One Piece, with a party of your compatriots participating in over the top battles, and Open World? That sounds like it could be fun.

Me on seeing the trailer: ...well, it's something. I guess.

I only ever got as far as the time skip in the manga, but was there ever any major city location showcased that could serve as inspiration for the location shown in the trailer? It looked remarkably far from the ocean.

I checked up the developer ganbarion. Most titles they have under their belt are licensed One Piece games... with Metacritic scores in the 70s. So there's something to go off of.

Looks pretty cool, but I don't know of any anime video game adaptions that were particularly worth it.

Why is that? These are huge franchises, you'd think someone would at least try to make a decent Naruto or One Piece game.

Ever played Naruto: Rise of a Ninja from Ubisoft Montreal? A.k.a. one of Ubisoft's most prolific studios.

I haven't myself, but that ought to serve as a litmus test of what to expect when they are at their best, since it was made by a high-profile studio. Given that time sorta has forgotten that title my take-away is that it didn't sold well enough to warrant similar efforts.

Although Ubisoft Montreal was something of a licensed-game maker at the time, so maybe I'm basing it off of nothing.
