The other day I played a little game called OneShot. The store page on steam describes it as "OneShot is a surreal top down Puzzle/Adventure game with unique gameplay capabilities. You are to guide a child through a mysterious world on a mission to restore its long-dead sun. The world knows you exist."

Now if I played this game last month, it would have been my GOTY, or damn close. The closest game I can compare it to is undertale, as there are some meta elements that are integral to the story, but this is a puzzle/adventure game, and the story is a bit more...intimate. It is about the Kid, the world, and you. Yes, you.

Saying much more would be spoilers, but I made this thread partially to bring attention to this game, and also to ask others whom have played, what they think about it; good, bad, other? So, if you have played it, what do you think?

Please tag spoilers for others if possible. I hope to hear what everyone thinks!

I have heard about it but I have yet to played it (the sales wasn't big at the last Winter sales but it was understandable cos it was new). I have read it was supposely the next Undertale.

It's very good. Puzzle focused, no combat unlike undertale though. The game was made over a year ago as a part of some contest; however they decided to remake the game, upgrade visuals, add stuff, that sort of thing to the version that was released last month. They are actually adding more things to the game later down the line too, which should be interesting. Shame the game hasnt seemed to get a lot of attention.

Indeed a very good game. I suggest to anyone who love top view surreal games.

However the last time I wanted to suggest to others from another Forum to play the game, the users started to complain for not giving a reason to buy it. Like, they felt insolted about this? I couldn'y believe it myself.
What a bunch of whinners I say!

I played through it recently and rather liked it. The meta elements worked pretty well. In a way it reminds me of undertale with hints of the dark souls universe(the sun has/is going out, the world is crumbling, rekindle the light).

Oh I VERY much enjoy the game. It'll be sticking in my memory. I must ask, did you get the Solstice ending?

so if meta save files are to be the future of indie darlings...can there be one developed where if I have more than one save file in use, they start to grow jealous and bitter until eventually one deletes the other in passionate rage as I'm sleeping soundly or whatnot, leaving only a passive aggressive confession note as they also delete themself?

i deeply desire this concept to be taken as far as inhumanly possible

I finished it and then realized there was a way of bypassing the One Shot rule. Now I'm on the 2nd playthrough and quite pleased with how things are different.

There are a bunch of scenarios that you aren't considering. What if you make backups of the save files? Will they not know of them if they're in different folders? How would they react to seeing the copies of themselves? Would save files backed up in cloud storage even be able to participate in these shenanigans?

-------------

About the OP: I have heard of OneShot, but I kinda lost interest when I realized just *how* meta the puzzles get:
you actually have to edit files on your computer
The furthest Undertale went with its meta concepts was closing the program when the final boss kills you, and that was annoying enough to be honest (besides, Eversion did it better). I'm a simple man, and I like simple, straightforward games. I'm okay with puzzles, even hard ones, but the game should make sure the mechanics needed to solve the puzzles are well established (as opposed to those games that randomly introduce new concepts and mechanics and expect you to figure out what to do).

P.S. I also seem to remember hearing that if you close OneShot without saving properly, it kills the protagonist and you have to start over. Like, what if there's a power outage?

Apparently this is true with the older version but if you bought it off steam(the newer one) then it's considered a save instead.

Much was considered including those, but am practicing brevity to avoid (publicly) rambling to myself these days. If people want to find ways around these insecure save files, then these insecure save files will have to find a way around such self-serving tomfoolery.

Save files always finds a way...

Finished the New Game + run. Rather liked it, especially the fact it delves deeper into things the first run of the game doesn't and the sequence of events plays out differently. I was also relieved I didn't have to redo some of the busywork the first run had(getting the supplies to clean the robot in the barrens, etc). But man that 2nd playthrough was starting to feel like a game of thrones episode after awhile.

The clock in the Refuge with the vault door is activated on the 2nd playthrough, and has a countdown to the 20th of March, which is the Equinox. Changing the system clock does nothing, so I think there will be a game update then which will allow us to access it

In the 2nd and beyond playthrough, Niko can see visions of at least two (but going off the trailer, probably three) extra mysterious characters with glowing gold on their character somewhere, which we know from George comes only from the extremely rare yellow phosphor, which is related to the sun. We could already see a vision of (Rue?) the fox from the first playthrough.
